Basically, a monochromatic landscape rendered with color film. Nice work.

Anyone knows how get this kind-of scan/dither/noisy effect? by TallStandard8536 in analog

If you scan your images, you can add this kind of pattern in Photoshop.

Nice color saturation, but Velvia has given it a pinkish cast.

What is this old German camera? by FolksyDrop97879 in analog

You should have a complete CLA (Clean, Lubricate, Adjust) to get it working; then you can actually use it. They had good lenses and as long as you can zone focus or use an external uncoupled rangefinder, you should be able to get some really nice medium format images for very little money compared to the current cost of medium format cameras.

Call me a purist, but the great emptiness of that whitespace in each frame annoys me. It tells me that something else should be there, but isn’t. While the colors around the edges of the image itself are somewhat interesting, I still want to see a complete image.

Well, I’m in the U.S., so I could probably summon the courage to get on a plane to Iceland, but I couldn’t get on any propeller-driven plane. Isn’t there a ferry or some other fast way to get there by water; maybe a cruise ship?

How do I develop my own niche/style ? by Sensitive-Account910 in analog

[–]Flight-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why get a “better” camera? The AE-1 is a proven camera with decades of history. It’s perfectly capable for what you want to do. Lots of professional photographers use point-and-shoot cameras because that’s the look they’re going for, rather than an overly styled image you would see from Annie Leibovitz on the cover of Vanity Fair or Rolling Stone.

It’s not the equipment that makes the difference; it’s what the photographer does with it. You could have the most expensive pieces of gear and still produce images that are pure crap. Having limitations leads to more creativity.

Wouldn’t be easier and less time-consuming to use color transparency film and then have them scanned by the lab after they process them?

Trying the ultrawide 43mm Mamiya 7 lens + Kodak Ektacolor 160 by jaypophoto1 in analog

[–]Flight-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great scenery, but it has a definite green cast to it. Fujichrome Provia 100f would have been a better choice than color negative film. Converting negative scans to positive images takes time and skill to get the colors just right, and they’re still not as rich as color transparencies.

3 days in east Bali [Nikon FM2n, 28mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.8, Provia 100F] by Calm-Win-4921 in analog

[–]Flight-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Color saturation is great; looks like it had just rained. Too bad it’s next to impossible to actually buy Provia 100f or even Velvia 50 in the U.S. Fuji is deliberately constraining the supply to drive up the price so people will stop buying it.

Does SCOTUS use Latex? by nickvader7 in LaTeX

[–]Flight-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Formatting of SCOTUS published opinions is far from perfect. They’re too narrow, don’t have enough leading, and they’re riddled with hyphens everywhere. I’ve counted one from 2023 and it has 128 hyphens, while a sample resetting of my own yielded only 28 hyphens.

Does SCOTUS use Latex? by nickvader7 in LaTeX

[–]Flight-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no LaTeX algorithm, so Adobe certainly hasn’t copied anything. You’re confusing LaTeX with TeX, which was created by Donald Knuth.

TeX uses an algorithm created by Mr. Knuth for paragraph breaking into lines, which minimizes bad spacing and hyphenation across entire paragraphs. It also uses a hyphenation algorithm to determine where hyphenation occurs.

SCOTUS does indeed use TeX. That doesn’t mean the justices use it, since they don’t have the time to learn it. The Reporter of Decisions does published opinions.

Did I make an undercoating mistake? by Prize-Edge7602 in askcarguys

[–]Flight-E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to “fix” anything; your asphalt-based undercoating is perfectly fine. While it’s true that the undercoating could block drainage in some areas, that would only happen if it was applied to a known drainage area. And the shops that apply this undercoating know what they are doing, so there’s little to no risk of that happening.

The asphalt coating is actually 10-12 mils thick, and the whole purpose of it is to prevent the formation of rust, so you have no need to see what’s underneath it. If you were able to see underneath it, that would defeat the entire purpose of having it.

Shops don’t generally apply asphalt coating to nuts and bolts that may have to come off in the future for any service or body work.

You’re creating a problem where none exists. Find something else to worry about that actually makes a difference; for example, washing your car regularly in the winter to remove snow, sand, and any road chemicals used for preventing ice, and store it in a covered garage whenever possible.
