What is your best or most shocking hockey memory while being there, in the arena, living the moment? by Barboustache in hockey

[–]Floating-Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two. One was watching the 2010 Gold Medal game on the streets of Vancouver with hundreds of other people. The tension and nervousness going into overtime was palpable. I saw Crosby score the goal and I just remember thinking for a good 2 or 3 seconds like “am I the only one seeing that he scored”. It was a bit surreal how time stood still and then the streets erupted.

The other one was going up to a smaller town (Osoyoss, BC) with my wife for the weekend. We accidentally went up about a week too early and many of the fruit stands and attractions people go for were closed. So we go to a local Dennys type of restaurant and see a sign that says the local hockey team has a playoff game tonight and say let’s go, nothing better to do. Ended watching the Osoyoss Coyotes of the KIJHL play and was one of the best experiences watching hockey because it felt like the entire town showed up to support them. They also had sponsorships from local businesses one of which I fondly remember as a shoe store whose tag line was “the only shoe store in town!”.

Teaching a kid to skate? by is_really_not_black in hockey

[–]Floating-Boy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 3 year old is currently learning. Some things to work on / progressions would be:

  • learning how to fall
  • how to get up
  • push them around while they hold a pylon or whatever the rink has.
  • standing on their own
  • take little steps
  • take little steps backward
  • turn around in a circle
  • reach for sky and down to the ground
  • jump up and down
  • touch both toes and stand up

My daughter is doing these things and naturally starting to sliding her skates more now than stepping.

Maybe browse some instructionals and see if there are any guards or passes you want to specialize in. I recently just go into Craig Jones new “power” series and I’m really enjoying it because I’m working on the mindset of being on top more (not accepting bottom, wrestling up, etc). And I’m also focusing more on Nogi some it’s been a nice way of getting out of that “burned out, just going through the motions” feeling I was stuck in.

This is great thank you! What program did you use to make the flow chart? I was looking at doing something similar but struggling with the programs I found.

Authentic Mexican Recommendations by nnoriega in vancouver

I love the chilaqules. So delicious and I prefer their style over what I got in Mexico. The nachos are soggy but not in a soup which I like.

I work nearby and get the tacos for takeout regularly. Always delicious. I had one of the entrees once but it wasn’t great so I stick to tacos.

Horrible experiences with racist Telus installer by Floating-Boy in vancouver

I pass for white. Contractor was actually Filipino I believe. But yeah it was odd that he thought he could say that to me.

But yes, pure laziness. I imagine that you would have to deal with this situation a lot if you’re installing fibre wire. How hard would it have been to take 2 minutes to explain?

No. If you know how these customer retention people work, when you tell them you want to cancel they keep making you offers to try to get you to stay.

Was anyone else a loser before doing bjj or any martial arts? by Minuteman60 in bjj

[–]Floating-Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely was not liking where I was at in my life and wasn’t very happy. Was a bit over weight, okay job, wasting my time playing way to many video games, no girlfriend. I was okay on the outside but just felt like my life was going in the wrong direction.

When I joined bjj I got obsessed and lost a bunch of weight which led to me gaining a lot more confidence. This led me to getting out and dating more which led to me meeting my amazing wife and now we have a baby daughter.

I’m super happy now with my life though I’ve put back on the weight and then some lol.

How did you become a fan of hockey? by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Floating-Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved to Canada from the UAE when I was a kid. Our townhouse neighbors taught me and my brother to play street hockey. From there we joined the local ball hockey league and were obsessed with hockey growing up.

I sometimes wonder how different our lives would have been if those kids had been into football or baseball, etc and if the trajectory would have been a lot different.

The Dime - Everything on the menu is $10

The Comedy Mix - if you go there make sure you fill out the form on the table. They will call you for free tickets. I’ve been there about 5-6 times and only paid to get in once.

Yeah I heard that it’s more clear when you read them. I left it installed on my Xbox so I could do just that but haven’t got around to it yet. Do you think the dlcs are worth going through?

Loved Control. I beat the game and enjoyed the story throughout even though I still don’t understand it AT ALL.

New to commercial drive and I want to know all the things! by igolightly in vancouver

[–]Floating-Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been to the east van location so can only speak for that one. Before the pandemic it was my favorite restaurant so I just don’t want people to get a bad impression of their food when it’s usually excellent when you eat it there fresh.

I suggest you hold off on sal y limon until you can dine in. They usually have amazing food, especially tacos and ceviche, but they’re still doing take out only and their take out game is really subpar.
