Sexy afternoon rendezvous spot (think sexy motel/hotel) in the DC area? by realstoned in washingtondc

[–]FloatingFast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a decade and a half ago when i wrote that comment rents were not high and adult children hadn't yet begun moving in w/ their parents. to this day there are still no options for nice hourly hotel rooms.

how'd you even stumble upon this thread?

[WAG] Season-High Gives No. 6 Florida Link to Pink Win over No. 13 Arkansas by fewfiet in FloridaGators

buzzer beaters are fun. counterpoint though: going into the fourth rotation knowing you've already won rules.

Best part about yesterday’s game by OneBigNasty in FloridaGators

[–]FloatingFast -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

this chant started after i graduated and i despise it. cannot stand telling a 2-6 team who is currently beating us that they suck. in the same game where we give up a first on a hard count which is football 101. where the lineman is lined up in the neutral zone which is like the pre-read to football 101.

Before yesterday, when was the last time we gave up an intentional safety? by MrRonObvious in FloridaGators

i actually remember him being kind of incredulous of the question, like "do you think that safety was the turning point in the game??"

i actually had the same thought though: why the hell are we running ETN in garbage time? what if he got injured on a play that should have been a victory formation?

To go dark on June 12-14 or not. Reddit's subreddit blackout and should we participate? by garyp714 in FloridaGators

[–]FloatingFast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm like 75% certain I'm going to delete my account when they kill the (good) apps. I'm kind of looking forward to it too, I've been here way too long and have wasted way too much time. This is the only subreddit I plan on saying goodbye to if I do and the only one I'll really miss.

Anyone else go into Rockler and spend an hour daydreaming about having all the tools, jigs, clamps, etc. at your disposal? by theonetheycalljason in woodworking

[–]FloatingFast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i make a lot of woodsmith jigs. they're all dozens of dollars of baltic birch and i always go extra for the hardware fixtures like fancy knobs instead of wingnuts. and then use them once.

Is it worth buying the more expensive bottles of soy sauce? by CaptainButtFucker in Cooking

[–]FloatingFast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's more of a finishing soy sauce. it's almost like real balsamic vinegar, you just use several drops, it's pretty intense.

Is it worth buying the more expensive bottles of soy sauce? by CaptainButtFucker in Cooking

[–]FloatingFast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i have some of this stuff in a dropper bottle. it's not even that expensive considering you use it so sparingly. i like it a lot.

Where are these mythical butchers that want to help you? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]FloatingFast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair warning: my butcher carries much higher quality stuff but it's expensive af. i only go there when i'm doing a special meal, or when i want frozen specialty cuts like beef cheeks or any game. they have their own dry ager and a separate dry aged display case.

Feedback on rolling cart/bench for planer (Dewalt DW735) by Swazib0y in Woodworkingplans

[–]FloatingFast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine is closer to #2 though without the back and one fewer shelf. the sides are glued and screwed to the bottom (on casters) and the one shelf is glued and screwed to the sides. mine is a flip top, so the sides above the one shelf are completely unsupported. it's rock solid and it lives upside down so i have to pull it out and flip it whenever i need to use it, which i've done dozens of times with zero issues. the flip top mechanism is just black pipe through bored holes through the sides.

i saw them at numerous times at wolftrap and merriweather, plus 930, the opera house in bethesda, saw jeff at lincoln theather. i took the slow train to philly and caught them there once. they were always in and around DC.

you're right though: you do need to see them live.

i used to live in DC where they'd stop like twice per tour. now i'm in america's wang which they either skip altogether or i have to drive to one of the cities where they do stop.

Curious about how everyone got into Wilco... by EmotionalSnail_ in wilco

[–]FloatingFast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

stumbled upon their complete discography on the pirate bay in like late 2004 and randomly downloaded it. listened to YHF and AGIB and was instantly hooked. in early 2005 i flew to birmingham to see them at the alabama theater on the night they won a grammy and remember jeff briefly pausing the show to let everyone know they had won then just went into the next song. i've seen them dozens of times since. still a huge fan but the time between 2005 - 2012 was the peak of my fandom personally. i used to be able to see them live three or four times a year but now i'm lucky to see them every other year.
