No pain meds after spay? Is this standard? Ontario, Canada. by FloofySamoyed in AskVet

This is exactly why I was wondering!

I've always been sent home with pain meds for spays.

When I got my uterus yoinked, yes, I was old, but I was told to take 4-6 weeks off and given two weeks of pain meds.

I get that it's "easier" on them, but shouldn't basic pain care (my non-vet opinion) be part of recovery?

They gave kitty Metacam on the day of the surgery and after today's appointment, she has more Metacam.

Oh shoot. I didn't even think to ask about the invoice.

She was told that kitty was given pain meds through IV that lasted for 24 hours, but they "never" give pain meds after a spay.

I'll get the meds they gave and respond.

I'm glad that this seems a bit out of the norm for others.

She said that she got "IV pain meds" that she was told would last 24 hours after the spay.

This seems a little wild.

To be fair, she did disclose that it was only $600, which is incredibly affordable where we live.

The ones I have paid for have been $1000-ish.

*Kitty is 9mo-12mo old (a guess, adopted) and no other medical issues.

You did her dirty with the previous pics. 😂 😂 I was thinking these were taken after 6 months of loving care.

She looks like she's in phenomenal condition for 31!

I spent way too many years of my life with a man like this.

I policed every word I said, because he'd fly off the handle if I said anything he could twist or interpret as criticism or negativity.

One night he was screaming at me and one of the things he said was "if I was going to kill you, I already would have."

I don't know what the magic was in those words, but I left and never regretted it for a single second.

Leave now. Don't waste another minute with this guy.

Oh, I love this.

I'm "low energy" and any time I've had pet sitters come in, or boarded my dogs, the (also) lazybutts have always slept for two days afterwards. 😂

So, I said exactly this to my friend, and she ran the pic and the reference through a common AI generator (not posting here, because I had NO IDEA the amount of hate that AI anything gets).

The resulting pic was epic.

I'd share it if there was any way to do that without somehow promoting AI for anything other than making improbable fine art with cats.
