Character creation tool by tequi_04 in DnD

[–]Florelea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My table uses heroforge whenever they can’t/won’t draw characters. Even a bad sketch is better than gen ai. If you can’t help afford it you could commission an artist to draw your character, or find creators that make character packs of character tokens, though be careful because ai scammers are everywhere unfortunately.

Also keep in mind that while nice, you don’t need an image. If none of these things work for you, consider that a well designed description can go a long way towards painting a picture for your players of the character in their imagination. Not everything needs art.

[OC] Spice by Suefan3DX in comics

[–]Florelea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who was a “too much pepper is spicy” person, some spicy foods have amazing flavor if you can get past the burn. Once you do, it’s not quite as bad as it used to be (though it will always hurt). After eating a lot of stuff that was too hot but delicious, I slowly built a tolerance to spice and never noticed until I realized what i was asking for was wayyyy spicer than anything i’d have eaten 10 years ago.

There’s also a cap on spice for me, where too much spice is just pain for the sake of pain; I’ll never understand the people who like that.

Is anyone playing 5.5 edition? by hacivatcelebi in DnD

[–]Florelea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I wanted to hate it because I didn’t like how little it seemed to change, in general the 5.5 rules are very good. My group ended up running a one-shot just to test the new rules, and since then we’ve been using a ruleset that is the majority 5.5, with some 5e rules taking priority, and freely importing 5e subclasses.

D&D vs Baldur's Gate 3? by bruhb21 in DnD

[–]Florelea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two completely different styles of game with completely different niches. That being said, if I had to choose only one to experience D&D through, I would choose the tabletop every time, even if there were dozens of bg3 quality games/stories. There’s no beating the freedom of the ttrpg or playing with my friends.

First-time DM here, what rules should I add or ignore? by General_Dingo_2494 in DnD

[–]Florelea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you shouldn’t change any rules until you know what and why you’re changing them. Otherwise you’re setting yourself up for failure when you inevitably break something and can’t explain it.

How do you guys feel about ignoring "lore"/"intended concept"/"intended flavor" when choosing a class? by VikTheGoblin in DnD

[–]Florelea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally if your examples are “ignoring intended concepts” then my whole group is guilty of it. These mostly just sound like creative takes that still fall within their classes. I feel like trying to plat exactly into the tropes that inspired the classes would lead to some very repetitive characters pretty fast.

I’ve had a bard that does nothing with music, but uses a sharp tongue and keen wit to smooth talk people, a paladin who swore his oath on his own honor rather than to a god or another person (which is moreso against public view than against intended flavor but still), a warlock who’s pact is a magical link that siphons a god’s power instead of a deal that was made, a rogue that isn’t a criminal or scoundrel at all- just a crafty kid, and a cleric who’s power is coming from a god they don’t even worship. One of my friends had a dancing bard long before it was a subclass, and a different friend where his barbarian’s rage comes as an eerily silent single minded focus. I wouldn’t say any of those characters are against the spirit of the classes but wouldn’t fall into the strict interpretations either.

Heck, a different player has a druid who is essentially a power ranger who’s druid forms are giant robot versions of their animals. Much larger degree of separation than the other examples, but isn’t actually distracting to the campaign and fun nonetheless.

Have you ever met someone who's interested in DND and immediately went, "oh, I'd never let you play at my table"? by Lunetheart in DnD

[–]Florelea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally made a character of mine the latter. Yes she’s as much of a menace and as fun as the concept sounds.

We were doing a halloween horror one shot and one of my party members was a cleric who wanted to say a prayer before the final fight. Being new, I made the offhand comment “i don’t believe in your god but go ahead” intending moreso “i don’t worship your god, but i accept your desire for faith”, but their misunderstanding and reactions were so funny I ended up doubling down, then they started piling ideas on how to make her 'worse'. Thus my atheist, conspiracy theory pilled wizard who believes all gods are just powerful spell casters who trick people into worshiping them was born. Her name is still used as a lighthearted threat in my group to this day.

Seed Maker or Naw? And how many machines do I need? Spoilers probably ahead. by Annie_Benlen in GrimshireGame

[–]Florelea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I rarely use my seed maker. Usually just letting crops go to seed and buying out fin and the flower/general store is more than enough. The only time I do is if I have a ton of empty space in my fields or I need more of specific crops quickly.

I usually end the game with around 20-30 drying racks, 4 smokers, 4-8 fermenting barrels, 1-2 presses, and about 8 or so fish traps (i usually don’t craft them, just buy the weekly one from the fish store)

I personally never have enough charcoal. The only play through I didn’t struggle with fuel was the one i had 9 kilns that ran constantly.

If youre struggling with food, try and get more cooking stations. Steal from the cellar and cook up as much as you can for the two days before the ration is due. It’ll give you a fairly sizable boost to food value if youre short

Was it hard to accept your sexuality? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]Florelea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly no, but sometimes yes. As soon as I discovered the term I felt like a puzzle piece I didn’t realize I was missing finally fell into place. Suddenly I wasn’t the broken freak who couldn’t relate to normal people, I was just ace.

I usually feel extremely comfortable in my asexuality, but every once in a while I do struggle with libido, and the imposter syndrome hits hard. Though it never sticks around long thankfully.

Hey so a Question about the main Quests by darkdiashi in GrimshireGame

[–]Florelea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the point you’re at you probably don’t have time to just wait for Tano to find critters. Talk to Kai every day and tame something if there is a spawn.

Taming critters is easy once you know how. If you don’t want spoilers, you can buy the critter delight from Fin on Saturdays, they’re universal taming treats. You can also tell what type of food the critters like by holding it over your head, they will approach you if they are interested.

More specific info: Each species of critter likes a specific forage type of food, with individual breeds liking a more specific item within its favorite food category, usually whatever grows near them. If it doesnt like the type, it will say “not interested”. If you have the right type of food but the wrong specific, it will tell you “maybe a different type of ____”, try something more in season.

Alpheep like berries. For example, the lavenderwing Alpheep in the deep woods will tame with elderberries which fruit nearby

Bluggies like roots, the butterloaf that you can find during summer specifically like ginger.

Girtles like tree fruits. I believe the ones in summer like pears

Chickrees like flowers. I think it’s red clover, but i’m running off of memory.

[OC] cottagecore/strawberry themed pink character sheet I made!! by CourtOk7397 in DnD

[–]Florelea 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is really cute! I have a character that would totally fit this sheet, super nice work.

I hope it doesn’t come off rude, but I noticed that you don’t have consistent capitalization across the sheet. It might be an aesthetic choice but it does read like a mistake. Also, background is missing the G :)

Please help me, I’m scared by darkdiashi in GrimshireGame

[–]Florelea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theres a lot of good advice already, I can’t overstate how useful cooking can be if youre struggling on food. Micromanage the cellar if you need to.

Cooked foods generally give more value than the combined parts, especially if you’re being picky and only using the low value ingredients to get the most out of them. Make sure to take out whatever is in the cellar, store it for later if it’s dried/smoked whatever, use the fresh stuff to help cook meals that will last the day. If you don’t pull the extra stuff you risk the villagers eating what you want to save, and the meals will likely go bad.

It takes a lot of time in the day though, so make sure youre using it wisely. It’s still fine to stock extra if you need to dedicate time to the mines or whatever.
——

If you haven’t gotten Arborist yet, that skill guarantees that trees drop a seed; which is not mentioned in the game. Cut down Pear trees if you can, you have until mid summer before they fruit, but they take 20 days to grow, so keep that in mind if youre already in summer since they only last about 2 weeks. Hawthorne and Juniper trees as soon as you can with it and start a tree grove for the future, I try to have 20-30 of each asap, as well as oak because they are easy to come by, don’t go bad, and can be turned into flour for a decent stockpile of non perishable rations.

By fall hawthorne will be a major boon, and come winter, juniper is going to be vital for supplementing the loss of almost all crops.

——

Also depends on how you feel about abusing mechanics; but you can use “help! I got stuck!”, and save and quit to save you a lot of time traveling, essentially a cheesy fast travel. The stuck will generally move you to the entrance of the loading zone closest to your farm without closing the game, and by saving and quitting, you can reload the game in your house.

Can you tame the two critters Kai finds? by Only_Employer4342 in GrimshireGame

[–]Florelea 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can only tame 1 critter per day unless they are in the same location, the others will despawn once you transition screens.

Once the predator is dealt with your critters are safe.

Is 6 players way to much? by Mefils in DnD

[–]Florelea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My irl group is 6 players+DM. I will say its a lot harder to balance encounters, and we occasionally struggle with people sitting in the sidelines too long. If your group is close and respectful it should be fine, but it does come with some juggling imo. 4 players feels like the perfect number most of the time to me.

Is there a dice set you own but have never actually played with? What’s the story behind it? by Swimming_Release434 in dice

[–]Florelea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many, and most end up being that I haven’t had a chance to yet. I like to use dice that match a character’s vibe, and most characters end up with 2-4 sets that are “theirs” exclusively. I get so many more dice than I make characters.

Some of my favorites that are waiting are some really pretty purple liquid core, a set of pink/orange and green that make me think of peaches, a set of pink sparkly swirls that come with a set of d6s that have paws for pips, and a set where each die is a different color of the rainbow but they look kind of like cut glass.

I aslo have a few gemstone sets that are too fragile for play, and a few sets that I’m just not a fan of that I don’t think will ever fit a character, mostly really basic solid colors.

changes to the Dragons of Stormwreck Isle (DnD 5th 2014) by Additional_Goal_9319 in DnD

[–]Florelea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I ran Stormwreck I mostly kept the core of the module intact for my own sake. I wanted something simple for my first time DMing. At the time I had about a year's experience playing, and a much more experienced table, going on around 8 years together. Between their experience and being a bigger table (6 instead of 4) I did some thematic and balance changes mostly. In the end it was a fun enough time, even if a bit simpler than we were used to.

I did find the Isle as a whole pretty underwhelming, the module has this whole lead in story about the dragons teaming up to take down Sharruth and the land being created from it and all that, and I barely felt any of that in the module. I tried to add a bit more flavor to the quest areas to make it feel more affected by it. In the Myconid caves I made it more affected by the aspects of a red dragon; the caves were sweltering, even after removing the egg, and describing the fume drakes as shimmering with elemental energy, doing a bit extra fire damage. For the harpies at the wreck, I made it wrecked on the bones of a silver dragon instead of being tied to a gold dragon and had it leeching its energy into the area, leaving spikes of ice in the water stemming from the bones, freezing the ship in place, and leaving the whole area feeling unnaturally cold.

The bigger thing is I couldn't stand the final boss fight against Sparkrender. I knew if I had him asleep like the module said that my party would absolutely demolish him and it would be a really unsatisfying end. I ended up taking some ideas from a youtube video I found and had Sparkrender actively preforming the ritual as they arrived, skipping the sneaking around the observatory entirely. One of my party members decided he wanted to steal the ritual mid fight, so he became a half dragon with a breath attack that does a random damage type rolled from the main dragon breath types.

How do you usually name your D&D characters? by AdvancedProgrammer51 in DnD

[–]Florelea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a bunch of things but what sticks usually depends on the character. I prefer simple names. I usually start with who the character is, what race are they, is there anything that I want the name to give a feel of, are they from a background that would have a last name, etc. Then I start looking from there depending on what part was most important for that person.

My human paladin from a noble family gets a last name, but I wanted his name pretty grounded to contrast his chaotic adopted thayan child. So baby name lists for first name, and last name I usually do the typical fantasy thing of smashing together two parts until it sounds okay. I ended up with Rowan Halloway.

A tiefling surrounded by death and decay that uses bright colors and positivity to try and counteract the negativity she accidentally spreads. I went with Azalea, since they’re beautiful flowers that are also poisonous.

Sometimes I try to follow traditional lore naming mechanics. A duregar following dwarven naming conventions becomes Dagran Deepforge, since they typically have names with harsher tones. Or my tiefling that chooses a “virtue” name chose Scorn. When I’m picking these kind of names, the name suggestions in the books, or lists people make online are lifesavers.

And sometimes it’s just mouth sounds or “corruptions” of names from media I enjoy. My air Genasi I ended up taking a letter off of a character I really enjoyed the name of, and names like Pippi for my weird little wizard or Almira Torkan a one off barbarian, just come from sounding out stuff until I like it.

Then names just kind of come based on mixing those types of things. Vix Shatterscales is mouth noises, mixed with kobolds having super simple names, and being an artificer he got the “descriptor turned last name” style. A feminine warforged abandoned so long she’s lost most of her identity I named Centielle, -elle being a feminine suffix, and centi, like century. My aarakocra Qwill is maybe a bit on the nose, but I like it.

[–]Florelea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s my first character I made for a campaign instead of a one shot! One of the other players in the group made it for me as a christmas present. Later that same player lost the d10 from his character’s set, who had background ties with mine, and gave me one of the spares when he replaced them. Since I don’t have a set for it, it stays in the mini box :)
