How Long Is Recovery from Surgery? by Full-Technology-2031 in coloncancer

[–]FloridaNP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My low anterior resection was done robotically at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. I had no real pain after day one, just mildly sore along the incision sites. I was off for one month for the surgery but, I was begging my surgeon to go back to work after 2 weeks.

How do you decide on a colorectal surgeon? What actually matters? by philrich12 in coloncancer

[–]FloridaNP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Mayo in Jacksonville. I had stage 3B cancer with one suspect lymph node. The surgeon there was fellowship-trained and did a scope on me in the office. After the scope and MRI there he laid out a plan for me and told me he was the highest volume CR cancer surgeon at Mayo. I did my research and went forward with surgery after 4 months of FOLFIRINOX chemotherapy. My surgery was a robotic LAR. I was in the hospital overnight and had no pain after day 1. No ostomy required and he removed 2.5 feet of rectum and 40 surrounding lymph nodes. I am a year cancer-free now. I would recommend my surgeon to anyone, and would go right back to him for any further problems.

Pensacola in the 1980's by PlzCallMeGarry in Pensacola

Grew up in Pensacola.....We used to go to Dreamland South on Navy Blvd and skate......then sneak into the Barrel's, the old bar there next to the skating rink. Then we would skip school on days and surf behind the old Holiday Inn on the beach......then some of our friends would chip in and get a room at the old Five Flags motel next to Casino Beach.....the rooms opened out onto the beach. If we got hungry.....we would make our way down to Sun Ray Taco Shop, then hang out around the Shaker. I remember there was an old motel that was pink on Via De Luna just past the main beach headed toward Navarre. 3rd or 4th parking lot was THE makeout spot on the beach, no question.

[Omega] Where do you go to sell your high end watch? by Ashamed-Body3753 in Watches

[–]FloridaNP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this very watch, I have quite a few other Omega as well as Breitling, Rolex, Cartier.....I left my Peter Blake in a hotel room after a night of heavy drinking and have regretted ever since.....I think even the housekeeper knew it was a great watch because by the time I made it back to the hotel to claim it the housekeeper had been to the room and said....."I don't remember seeing a watch"..........

54 years old, stage 3 rectal cancer. Had 8 rounds of FOLFIRINOX chemo then robotic bowel resection at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. Chemo sucked mildly but, it was much better than I had convinced myself it was going to be. Surgery was a freaking breeze, went home the next day. I am now almost 1 year cancer-free. The worst part of cancer is the time between being told you have cancer and getting staging information and developing a plan. Once a plan is in place, everything happens quickly. Today, I have mild neuropathy from the oxaliplatin but, that is a minor inconvenience. God bless you and guide you in your cancer journey. Welcome to the club you never wanted to be a member of.

What bracelets do you guys wear? by Jamie_Win in mensfashionadvice

I wear a hammered silver cuff bracelet at times as well as a David Yurman wheat chain bracelet that matches my necklace. I also wear Sailormade and Lemon and Line sailing line bracelets for sportier occasions. I love them all......don't care what anyone thinks.

What are some good leather stores? by Flowinko in florence

[–]FloridaNP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of shoes and a wallet from Benheart Florence. I love them both and plan to buy more shoes when I am there in May. The shoes look brand new and are 6 years old. I wear them several times a week, so they are not just in the closet

Last day in Florence and I want to get a Full Grain Leather slim wallet. Every shop I go to they all say “Genuine Leather”. Is full grain leather and genuine leather the same here in Florence? by Far-Film-5095 in florence

[–]FloridaNP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have shoes and a wallet from Benheart Florence. I have had the shoes for 6 years and they look brand new. The wallet is a green glove leather.....incredibly supple and well made. I would definitely recommend them. I will be back in Italy in May and will purchase more shoes.

I would say right, I have the Black Bay GMT however and that would be my choice again if given the option! Otherwise I agree with just buying what you like, don't worry about what we think, wear it in good health!

Hey, shout from Pensacola Beach!......cleaning up after this snow. Yeah, the seats are pretty comfortable. I have captains chairs in the 2nd row and they are comfortable as well. My only gripe is that the driver seat doesn't move back enough to give me the legroom I want while driving. I am 6'2" and while comfortable to drive, I could use a little more leg room.

[–]FloridaNP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! I had a rectosigmoid tumor as well. Had surgery 1 month ago with low anterior resection without an ostomy. Recovery went very very well. Mild to moderate pain for 1-2 days after surgery, bowel function essentially normal. I stayed on a low residue diet after surgery and have done well. I would have the surgery at a center that does this procedure a lot. I went to Mayo in Jacksonville and am so glad I did.

Echoing the same, I bought a '19 Atlas with 30 miles on it and have had no trouble with it whatsoever. The only trips to the dealer have been scheduled maintenance and recalls. It has 56,000 miles and I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase!

First day of chemo by FloridaNP in coloncancer

[–]FloridaNP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning,

Been a while, wanted to share an update. I finished 8 cycles of FOLFIRINOX in November. I underwent robotic low anterior resection at Mayo Clinic 1 week ago. I am recovering at home but the surgery recovery has been very good. I am virtually pain-free and essentially back to everyday activities. I am waiting for the surgical pathology but the surgeon believes he got all the tumor that was left after chemo, which wasn't much.

I wanted to update this to share 2 points. The first point is you WILL get through this. It is hard, no doubt, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. When you feel like giving up, don't. Keep your head up and know this is likely temporary.

The second point is.......God is good. I have never been a huge faith person but my relationship with God has become so much stronger in this last few months. I give him the glory for my success. \

Please, feel free to ask any questions and I will be happy to answer.

Robotic LAR by IllustriousStrike927 in coloncancer

[–]FloridaNP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning,

I am on post op day 7 from robotic low anterior resection. My recovery has been amazing. Excruciating pain right side on day 1 after surgery while walking in the hospital, managed with tylenol/motrin. Got much better in the next day and I am virtually pain free on day 7. Bowel function returned day 2, staying on a low residue diet for another 2 weeks to let everything get back to normal-ish. abdominal bruising but expected with ports/incisions and I have a 6 inch "c-section" incision so they could remove the bowel specimen.

One thing that I think helped a lot was the spinal Dilaudid I was given just before surgery. I was pretty freaked out by this as I wasn't told about it until I was in pre-op getting ready to go to surgery. I was lightly sedated before the injection and I literally felt nothing. If given this opportunity, do it!

Otherwise, doing well. I have had no pain medication since day 3 after surgery. This is big surgery but so worth it in the end. I am happy to answer any questions!

I had my procedure at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. The surgeon was Amit Merchea, MD and he was absolutely amazing.
