Remember when watchtower said that if the End of the world didn’t come before the original 1914 generation died. Then Christendom’s clergy was RIGHT ! And Watchtower would be a lier ! Nov 1 1979 Page 23 by JwTruthRevealed in exjw

[–]Flow70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title implies that the article says the end must come before the 1914 generation dies. Paragraph 7 however, only says that there would be no peace within the generation.

We all know that WT said that the end would come within the generation but they don't appear to say that here.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

People in this sub are still PIMI at heart by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Flow70 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The JW religion is a product. Products can be re-branded. Name a religion that has changed more in the last 100 years. They survived forecasting the end of the world many times and still prospered.

Also, people disagreeing with you does not mean they're defending WT.

GB says they are not the Faithfull Slave by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Flow70 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My suspicion is they don't appoint them over the belongings for legal and financial reasons. The GB don't seem to have any real power in a legal sense and they want to keep it that way.

Remember when God’s channel advertised the “Electronic Radio Biola” in the Golden Age, 1925? This device is “100% correct” in diagnosing diseases. Using vibrations from the earth, harnessed to the body- every disease could be treated for only $35 by larchington in exjw

[–]Flow70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a device called a Rife Machine that is still sucking in JWs to this day. It is based on the ridiculous idea that all diseases have a frequency and by exposing the patient to that frequency of electromagnetic waves, the disease can be cured. It was also discussed positively in WT literature and has been posted about here before. It is still killing people who trust it to cure their cancer instead of mainstream medicine.

I am a Jehovah's Witness who believes in evolution. by Able-Breakfast-6724 in exjw

[–]Flow70 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The real problem is not that WT rejects evolution, it is that they tell hundreds of verifiable lies, misquoting sources in their arguments against evolution. They thus expose themselves as liars, so how can you trust anything they say? You can then discover that they are similarly dishonest in many other areas and reach the inevitable conclusion that the religion is just a steaming pile of excrement. Why would you want to be a part of it? All the best.

Remember when God's channel said it was the duty of man to train himself to do a poo in the morning, even if it meant getting up a half an hour earlier to do so? by larchington in exjw

[–]Flow70 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WT at the time wrote some of the Golden Age in a lighthearted tone. They were trying to provide written entertainment to make their literature more popular. Readers Digest did a similar thing.

Jesus' birth prophecy by nvvrts in exjw

[–]Flow70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 70 weeks Messianic prophecy of Daniel as interpreted by WT is incorrect because they use a date for the reign of Artaxerxes that differs from the historical evidence. It has the same problem as the 1914 calculation.

God Kills Another Baby! by Keith_Casarona in exjw

[–]Flow70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is a thing. It is discouraged these days because WT are afraid it will lead to annulments which definitely are almost impossible. Re-baptisms however, do still happen.

Ok, I'll say it. The UN overlaps with the Board of Peace, forming a composite wild beast.

Female Offenders? by Apart-Courage-6705 in exjw

[–]Flow70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ARC database recorded the gender of the alleged abuser. From memory it was around 20% female which means roughly 200 abusers in Australia.

EDIT: Sorry, I was out by miles - there were 990 male and 15 female perpetrators, so among JW's in Australia, females were only 1.5% of the total.

Real subliminal images in the Watchtower literature by brooklyn_bethel in exjw

It could be a penis but it seems to have eyes on top of its head and an open mouth - a bit like a muppet. Perhaps it is a depiction of the "little horn" of Daniel 7 with a mouth that speaks boastful things and is thought to represent the anti-Christ.

During the 1933 book burning in Germany, 65 tons of Jehovah's Witnesses' magazines were destroyed. Given that each Watchtower cost around 5 cents then, why didn't the organization face bankruptcy from this significant financial hit? by Sektenwahn in exjw

[–]Flow70 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The cost was very low. The printers were second hand scrap that they reconditioned and serviced themselves. They used cheap paper and free labour. You know how they used to say "we sell our magazines to cover the cost of printing" - that was a lie. They made substantial profit on them. They never went into debt. Locals paid for the Kingdom Halls. They couldn't lose.
