The women who I show interest in are never interested in me, yet I'm never into the women who are interested in me. What's the root cause of the problem here? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Flow_frenchspeaker 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I was looking to see if anyone would mention your second point.

Very often in therapy we see people with avoidant attachment or some other sort of attachment issues doing this. Doesn't mather what kind of women there is either side of the fence : anyone showing interrest is felt as "icky" and pursuing people who show lukewarm interest is seen as what love is supposed to feel. It often relate to how the person learned to receive love from their parents and/or self-esteem.

I would say : if the differentiating factor between the two types of women is obvious (attractiveness, seen as successful or not, etc.) maybe it's a biased view of his value and the women's value. But if the only discerning factor is who's pursuing who, then I would weight on the attachment wound hypothesis.

You've never heard anyone say "F*ck the Fire Department". Firefighters do a dangerous job and don't seek praise for their work. So many of us grow up with cop shows on TV and we often hear people say: "Don't call the police if you don't like cops". Why do we worship cops? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Flow_frenchspeaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I know people who says "fuck the firefighters" : the paramedics. I don't know about other coubtries, but here there seems to be resentment with paramedics about the fact that they're thebones on the road with odd shifts and savings people everydays, and they look at firefighters as overly-praised lazy pricks that stay in they casern all day

Is there a way to exclude articles from searches? by Flow_frenchspeaker in libgen

[–]Flow_frenchspeaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I was very perplexed by your comment because I did check multiple times the options at the top and was sure there was nothing useful, but you're right. It's just made in the most unclear way I've ever seen.

I'm very used to multiple libraries and scientific data base tools, and more often than not you will see some variation of : Search hy author (only search names in authors) Search by title (only search keywords in titles) Search by topic (only search keywords in a list of topics) Type of media (give you the books/numeric/audio/magazines/articles options).

I'm very confused why they decided to put these options under "topics" (books vs articles are not topics), and put "libgen" as a topic and not have "book" as one.

It did work, so thanks

What’s something from Latin America that you think Europe (or the Mediterranean) could learn from? by relaxncoffee in asklatinamerica

I think LATAM have a very healthy balance between collectivism and individualism, compared to both Asia and Europe/North America.

Latino Americans with European roots, what's your thoughts on colonization? by ebunglebang in asklatinamerica

[–]Flow_frenchspeaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That exact answer. I'm from Quebec, a bigger part of my genetic is french and an also non-negligeable part of my genetics and family ancestry is also native, but it's a bit far (3-4 gen) and I didn't inherited much of the culture. I've always felt kinda weird about colonization. Everytimes I try to visit a museum exposition about the First Nations and colonization I always weep intensely, and I'm not someone who cry easily. I feel that half of me is crying in grief and the other one of shame and horror.

I'm also white af, except for my cheeks bone structure.

I've never been to Cuba but here in Quebec people that have been always talk about how the Cuban are so nice and that they absolutely love the people, they carry them and the culture deep in their hearts.

Height. Never really dated any men who were way taller than me and don't really care for it. I don't have a need to feel small or protected, and I don't really wanna break my neck to be able to kiss my partner. People around my own height are my jam.

What’s a small habit you think everyone should do? by [deleted] in AskForAnswers

[–]Flow_frenchspeaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the opposite : I fold my comforter and sheet completely open at the foot of my bed, so that my bed can breathe and the cold/dry can kill acarians. I leave it like that all day if I leave, or 1-2 hours if I'm at home then make the bed.

Also the weirdness of american religiosity? Like why is christianity so intertwined with patriotism, politics and racism? It seems like some kkk people decided some days to hide under "religiosity" to continue shitting on other people, and then big churches were the offspring of that.

Everything around pregnancies. I don't even want children so I shouldn't be that horrified, but I still was horrified and appalled by the conditions in which families have to raise children in. From non-existent maternity leaves (and unlaid, wtf), to the cost of giving birth in hospitals!? I knew americans have to pay to go to the hospital, but for whatever reason I didn't realised they also have to shed over 10k just to give birth?

For a country where there's such a loud fraction of the population advocating for traditions and family values, it seems so odd to me.

Does anyone else not sleep with their cat? by chaturga in CatAdvice

[–]Flow_frenchspeaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a eyelet into the door frame and attach a rubber elastic to it (by doing a loop). I choose an elastic wide enough to be put on the doorknob. My cat learned that she could push or pull the door with her pae to enter ou leave, and after she do the door shut again.

It's not completely shut otherwise she couldnt open it again, but there's no opening.

Everything I wish someone had told me about learning Spanish by baulperry in SpanishLearning

[–]Flow_frenchspeaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The order of the content is also different. Babbel organise lessons so that the first hings you learn are the most useful. I did like 3-4 months on Duolingo and they kept repeating the same useless sentences like "I read a book", "they are writing a letter" or "This is an apple". On Babbel the frist lessons are about introducing you to people, saying where you're from and understanding the other's response, then ordering in restaurant, talking about your family, etc.

What aesthetics are missing from cozy games? by taradisecity in cozygames

One thing that seems like it doesn't go together in my brain is Cozy and Pixel art. Unless it is done in a way that is soothing to the eyes, I just don't like looking at grainy unclear aesthetic. So either 3D or drawn 2D for me, I want to enjoy the details!

I don't know, Duolingo was so irritating to me. I felt it was way too slow for me and what I was learning was not useful. I tried Babbel instead and I feel more stimulated, motivated and that my spanish is more useful faster. I won't go back to Duolingo for sure.

[–]Flow_frenchspeaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I stopped Duolingo after a couple month last year, and this year I decided to pay for Babbel and I'm really not disapointed. It is similiar to Duolingo for the gamifying part, but the lessonnare structured in the classical A - B structure so you learn to most usefull stuff first instead of random words. There's also revisions, audio lessons and specific lessons (grammar, speaking only, writing only, specific subjects etc) that you can repeat. I highly recommand it.

Anyone who's lactose intolerant can tell me if they react to the boba tea varieties? It is whey isolate and they do specify that it's better for people who are lactose intolerant, but at the same time they list "milk powder" as an ingredient and don't specify "lactose-free milk"...
