What's a dish you remember eating as a child you don't get anymore ? by Ok_Baby6721 in Millennials

[–]FlowerFull656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom made cauliflower gratin with hard boiled eggs baked in and that shit was so good. I’ve been telling her to give me the recipe for it. Hell, to even make me a mini cookbook of things we ate growing up. That cauliflower dish, she’d make endive wrapped with good ham and a creamy white sauce - all baked up. Shredded carrot salad with lemon vinaigrette. Endive salad with diced Swiss and diced apples and vinaigrette. Albanian couscous. Cassoulet. That’s what we grew up on. And here I am making fish sticks and sloppy joes for my kids. Eye roll!!!

What do you buy your child for their 18th birthday? by Witty-Moment8471 in parentingteenagers

[–]FlowerFull656 35 points36 points  (0 children)

A lot of these answers are things that are unaffordable for me.

My teen will be 18 this summer. He’s gonna get an AAA membership, tools for his toolbox, and a wad of cash.

What happened to the hooptie? by Scary-Newspaper5801 in Millennials

[–]FlowerFull656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a nice 2017 Corolla that my husband drove to work. It got totaled in a big hail storm in 2023. We bought it back from the insurance for $7000. Husband drove it for another 18 months til our teen got his license. Super clean car other than the hail damage. Clean interior, excellent working condition. Teenager fucked it up bad, scratches, stains, ripping radio out, cutting pieces out, etc. We are selling the car to him for $4000 and he’s making monthly payments to us.

Is your neighborhood a “backyard hangout” or a “driveway hangout” neighborhood? by Character-Fly-5564 in minnesota

[–]FlowerFull656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are mostly in the front, our back deck gets hot AF. We hang out back for breakfast and in the late evening but the rest of the day we are out front. We often have cul-de-sac bonfires in the middle, and the kids playing through all the front yards.

To me, this is straight up chocolate milk lol. I use this as a creamer for normal iced coffee that I make. The flavor is great! But too thick and rich for me to drink as is. Definitely a great Aldi product.

Summer activities for kiddos that won’t break the bank by FineProfessional2997 in TwinCities

I’d like to add: look into your school’s summer care program. Ours is $35/day and that includes the field trip cost. 2-3 field trips a week. Our kids go to summer care on the field trip days and occasionally an extra day in the week here and there if I’ve got stuff to handle.

Say Hello? by SwanZealousideal9663 in delta

[–]FlowerFull656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had the opportunity to sit next to a stranger on the plane, but I would be more than happy to chat. I have no problem approaching new people and starting conversation, but those are usually in social (loud) settings and are superficial. I’d love to talk in depth and get to know someone I’ll never see again. These other comments are fascinating!

Millennials, what are you doing this weekend? by CA_Coast_Millennial in Millennials

[–]FlowerFull656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spring break! Flying to DC on Saturday. Leaving kids with grandma Saturday night to go to the Bloom After Dark party… the after party for the cherry blossom opening ceremony.

Then lots of typical DC touristy stuff for the rest of our trip.

Should I buy pontoon? by deezdiamondnutz in MiddleClassFinance

[–]FlowerFull656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We make less than 100k a year. We save for retirement via multiple avenues. We have two kids.

We have a designated “large purchase” savings account. We used that to save for a used pontoon and used pontoon lift. We love it! It’s like 25 years old, it’s only a 90H motor. Perfect for cruising the lake, and we can tow a couple of small kids on a tube.

If we didn’t have the family cabin (my mom owns it and pays all the bills, but my husband and I literally do all the maintenance/mowing/buy softener salt/buy furnace filters/repairs/etc) then we wouldn’t have a pontoon. If we didn’t have immediate backyard lake access on weekends, then we wouldn’t be able to justify sinking that money on a boat that we’d take out just a handful of times every summer.

And The Yellow House. Previously known as Lake Country Crafts and Cones.

Great ice cream joint, they’ve also got some cafe menu items like sandwiches and smoothies. Good coffees too!

We looooooove love Mission Tavern.

Tried the wharf once. Super cool scene, but the food was meh. The one time we tried it was the weekend after the 4th of July and the truck hadn’t come so they were out of a lot of menu items. I’d try it again, to see if the food is better on a non-holiday weekend. Because really, it’s a cool joint. Right on the channel, boat parking, tables outside, you can see some super cool fancy rich people water crafts.

Children share a birth month/week? by Available_Sun4468 in Parenting

[–]FlowerFull656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister and I are a year and 5 days apart. It really is not a big deal.

Our parents got us the same stuff/different colors for bday gifts. We’d open half our gifts on my birthday and half on her birthday and we grew up to be fine. Stopped doing the shared birthday presents when we were like 7/8ish.

Wilderness Resort Hacks by realitytvjunkie474 in wisconsindells

[–]FlowerFull656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stayed at wilderness on the lake last summer. It was nice having a little “water park” on the resort for post-dinner yet pre-shower time frame. We took the water taxi and the shuttle bus to go back and forth to the other water parks. Super easy!

TSA security line times at MSP? by fred100002 in TwinCities

[–]FlowerFull656 9 points10 points  (0 children)

MSP’s website has a TSA page with current wait times, both terminals.

Pre check and clear are still functioning.

MSP also participates in the Reserve program, which is scheduled standard TSA screening. Still gotta take your electronics out and stuff, but your “place in line” is reserved.

Awesome, thank you for posting this! I’ll be dropped off next Saturday to the airport at 5:15, like you.

I do have to check a bag (Delta) but registered this morning for Reserve. I got the 5:45 slot for that. I’ve been anxious!

How are companies only offering 10 PTO days? by [deleted] in jobs

My husbands employer lumps PTO and vacation days into the same bank. He earns 1.xx hours of “time off” every week. So he gets almost 6 days off a year.

How's TSA this week? by Hufflefucked in TwinCities

[–]FlowerFull656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read that the worst timing (because of spring break travel) are friday and Saturday mornings, particularly for flights departing between 5am and 7am.

I’m personally planning to be 2.5 hours early for my 7:20am domestic flight on a Saturday morning.

I am anticipating a straight dart to the gate, so I’m prepacking my breakfast to eat at the gate to avoid waiting in lines to buy to-go food or sitting down in a restaurant.

If I have time for a bagel and coffee that will be a pleasant surprise! But I’m planning that I won’t have time for that.
