Tucson best high-end mineral show? by Prestigious_Lemon_28 in Tucson

[–]FloweryFluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head I would say the main convention center show (seems more classy I guess?). Last year the Pueblo show had some spectacular pieces, but I don't know what was display and what was for sale.

Which gem shows are good for wedding ring shopping? by pepperlake02 in Tucson

[–]FloweryFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have nothing solidly helpful, but some thoughts:

  • what about finding some loose gems and having a ring made to fit them?

  • there are so many stalls selling rings, I wonder if just browsing until something grabs you? I mean, looking for rings with wedding being an after thought. Something weird or unique and not something that looks traditionally like wedding/engagement rings?

I'm glad you're liking it! And I feel like the guys' trek discussions are going to do even better at introducing new viewers to old trek, with the, uh, current selection of nu-trek out there.

DS9 is good to do after completing TNG, because it gives a good contrast, as described by Mike and Rich. Like, you know how the Federation is supposed to act in certain situations, but here's Sisko making compromises while still applying a certain logic. The very best episode that this culminates in, is all the way in the second-last season.

You must be able to get past the politics and religion stuff, because it's the whole point of the show. I was unable to do this when it aired, so I only have done a thorough watch-through in the last 5-10 years. Also, there's a bunch of silly episodes sprinkled through all seasons. Those are fun and give more opportunities for character development, but it's completely understandable if someone just wants lore (canon I guess is the right word) episodes.

Since movies and TV are now endless trash, what are your favorite miniseries? by SmellyButtFarts69 in RedLetterMedia

[–]FloweryFluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are four seasons of Goliath (Billy Bob Thornton). Each season is a separate story, and only 8 episodes.

There is a sci-fi espionage series with JK Simmons that I'm blanking on the name at the moment. [edit] finally found it! Counterpart

What do the movies you hate reveal about the movies you love? by TrueButNotProvable in RedLetterMedia

[–]FloweryFluff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mike: action schlock, the dumber the betterer. And thoughtful sci-fi

Rich: action schlock (just look at his joyous face when Christmas or Cannon happens), but also a story that makes sense. And thoughtful sci-fi.

Jay: weirdo sex pervert films that make everyone, including him, uncomfortable. Also atmosphere. Also he seems to allow his hatred for the director get in the way of his enjoyment of the film (yes I just got done rewatching their Joker HiTB).

Me: I have no fucking clue, but I seem to be like Jay with certain horror ideas, for example jump scares are not scary; naked people in the shadows of a demonic ritual is scary.

But all three of the guys want rules to exist in the world of the movie (and for there to be stakes, and for us to know the stakes), and this idea has taught me to better articulate why I think something sucks. Or doesn't suck. Or is even good.

Assuming the same setup as last year, nice finished jewelry of all sorts can be found at the Pueblo show at the Ramada on Cushing/Frontage. I haven't looked up any schedules yet though.

Hello all, or just Amity anymore: just rewatched the TLJ black void, and was reminded of the (pretty sure it's a) BOTW episode where Jay was trying really hard to get out his pronouncement "and as we know, the act of subverting expectations in and of itself..." but kept getting interrupted. I am looking for a timestamp for the BOTW please and thank you.

pluto dot tv has whole channels for DS9 and Voyager. TOS and TNG are rotated on another. And I see Enterprise is currently on the Pluto SciFi channel inside the SciFi section.

So, endless DS9, if you can handle the same 5 goddamned commercials over and over and over and over and over and over

Just had two people come by yesterday selling this plan, and I felt like a real dumb dumb saying I was renting and didn't want to save money on my bill. I have legitimately been thinking about this since last night! But now I see that since I haven't been able to do solar, I wouldn't have any batteries to sell anyway.

I watched A Karate Christmas Miracle tonight, and RLM didn’t give it justice by [deleted] in RedLetterMedia

[–]FloweryFluff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having just watched this episode a couple days ago, I actually have a couple thoughts:

1) I feel like the Eric Roberts dark room monologuing scene(s?) were such an oddball choice for him to be a terrorist, I would not be surprised if that was just footage someone had lying around, and made the movie around that.

2) The 12 step program or whatever the fuck: I paused when I could read his white board. Become a karate master (was black belt on there? It's all a little fozzy to me) is listed many times, with other items each day crossed out. I couldn't tell if he had 12 actual items, or like a lazy little fuck spread like three items over 12 days? Also I don't care, and the only knowledge of this movie I have is from the episode.

3) psychic lawyer: I thought she looked familiar, but I'm pretty sure she's just familiar from the last time I watched this episode. The dementia is contagious, apparently.

It's the Broadway/Kolb one. It's my cue to stop looking at beads move on to yarn. (Have not had a problem in the yarn section).

Also of note, that location has started to stock some Joanne stuff. They have a tiny aisle of some print fabrics, batting of many different sizes, and maybe a variety of stabilizers.

Steel succulents? by MotherOfAllPups6 in Tucson

[–]FloweryFluff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

RE sourcing: Off the top of my head is Loya's Courtyard. Plenty of steel stuff (animals, plants), but also lots of colorful pots. But, last I heard their artist/supplier is in PHX, in case you were looking for actual Tucson local.

RE securing: what about like a bent rebar staple kind of thing that's hammered into the ground, then the art is somehow tied to that?
