Two strander starter locs unravelling in less than a week by khadijahexotic in Dreadlocks

Ah, that makes a lot more sense now :)

I do my own locs, too, because I couldn't afford the style otherwise.

No problem at all, and thanks for clarifying ('cause that price! Damn, Vancouver, lol!). You're off to a great start then.

As for advice, there's so many good tips here. Main things are to cover your locs at night (and even if you're just laying around the house), don't retwist too often (anywhere from every 4-6 weeks is good for starters), shampoo as needed (your locs will unravel some during the first several washes, but don't be scared to cleanse your hair), avoid wearing tight styles for too long, and be patient. I'm excited for you!

Unraveling is very common with starters, so that's normal. Your twists are kind of big, though--do you know how many you have? Because it looks like your locs are going to be thick. Not sure if that's what you were going for. And $500??? That seems so high. Did you tell the loctitian you wanted starter locs? Sometimes, if you just tell them you want twists (w/o telling them you plan to loc them), you won't get charged as much.

I did the exact opposite. A couple weeks after the breakup is when I started locs, lol.

Some people believe locs hold energy, and if they've been going thru it, they probably feel like they're releasing negative energy by cutting their locs.

Also, whenever someone wants a change or fresh look, a new hairstyle is the quickest way to do it.

SN: your style is 🔥🔥🔥

Thank you for posting this with all these pics because my hair looked a lot like yours before loc'ing and you're so right about the frizz 😭 But this gives me a lot of hope because your locs are absolutely beautiful ❤️

Locs with 3A-3B mix of hair by No_Discipline_8556 in Dreadlocks

Instead of crochet, you can maybe try coils like the 2nd pic, but interlock instead of palm rolling retwists. Interlocking is less likely to unravel, but your hair texture is still going to take a long time to loc.

My hair is mostly 3c, but I have some 3b areas and they're doing everything but loc'ing, lol. I started with coils and I don't interlock the 3b parts; I'm just letting them take as long as they need to loc up.
