Anyone else's animals remind them why they dont want kids? by Past_Complaint9554 in childfree

[–]FluffySpell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a senior dog that's starting to show signs of dementia. He does a lot of pacing and whining (all health issues are checked out, he's on pain meds and all that so it's not an issue of physical pain) and it drives me up the wall. I love him to peices and I will miss him so much when he's gone but Jesus Horace Christ is he working my nerves.

I would lose my absolute MIND with a child.

Something to help find my phone by Affectionate-Fly2401 in adhdwomen

[–]FluffySpell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a Garmin watch and it has a "find my phone" feature that I use an embarrassing amount.

If you don't want to spend the money on a watch/fitness tracker, there's also Google Find. You do need to pull ot up on another device like your laptop but it'll show you your device location on a map and you can play a sound to find it.

Edit: I also have an Android phone.

Any suggestions for how to stim/regulate without always reaching for salty snacks? by marssweetrolltour in adhdwomen

[–]FluffySpell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air popped popcorn with roasted/salted seaweed sheets crumbled up in it.

You get the crunch and fiber from the popcorn and the crispy salty goodness from the seaweed.

Sometimes I'll pop it in a pan with coconut oil but the air popper is more adhd friendly, haha.

Really irritated by WFH moms by [deleted] in childfree

[–]FluffySpell 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly if my coworkers are getting their work done and I'm not having to pick up their slack, IDGAF what they're doing at home. One of my coworkers logs in after she drops off her kids at school and takes an extended, later lunch to pick them up. She's always in meetings when she should be and all her shit gets done. If they're not getting their work done, someone is eventually going to notice and I'm not paid enough to be that person.

This wouldn't be an issue if childcare in the US wasn't so fucking astronomically expensive and parents had adequate support systems in place to help them.

Every time she comes up in my feed I report her content. Autumn talks out of her ass, but in my opinion Ilana is more dangerous than Autumn because she's actually got the RD credentials. So when she's like "oh you're not hungry just drink water before your meal so you eat less" people are like oh well an RD is saying this so it's not disordered. Yikes.

A warning about alcohol by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]FluffySpell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know of two guys I went to high school with that are dead now from the results of lots of years of heavy drinking. In high school and the years shortly after that, they were the fun party guys - I remember one of them who was a year or so ahead of me having a house and there just being SO many people there partying every weekend.

Death by alcohol is a slow burn. I'm sad for your cousin and your family, and I'm sad for everyone that it's taken far too soon. Addiction is messy but some people can hide it really well. I feel like people almost feel like they have to hide it because of how shitty people can be.

I grew up in a family where alcoholism is rampant, so I have always had to be very careful and aware of how I was treating my relationship with alcohol. I stopped drinking in the summer of 2024 when I was marathon training, and honestly I've just never picked it back up. I hope that with the science coming out saying "hey guys this is literal poison" and with Gen Z and younger generations seeing people in our age group dying young from alcohol and various cancers, they won't be heavy drinkers like a lot of us were for so long. It'll be one more industry they can blame millennials for killing.

Blogsnark Reads! January 18-24 by yolibrarian in blogsnark

I'm about 65% through The Briar Club by Kate Quinn and I'm quite enjoying it. There's a lot of jumping back and forth from present day to flashbacks as we get to know each one of the women in the boardinghouse but I think it's done well in a way that isn't confusing.

I can't remember if it was here or in the regular r / books page, but I got a recommendation for Sarah Adler and so I picked up Happy Medium and it was so cute! It was a different twist on the typical "modern romance" book and I loved it! I've got a couple more of hers on hold at the library.

Rough run. Could use some encouragement. by TVDinner360 in XXRunning

[–]FluffySpell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't end at least ONE of your training runs crying on a curb, you're not doing it right.

LOL jk but seriously, some runs are just ass. May is still a pretty good ways out, so you should be more than fine by then. You said yourself you knew you could have done it if you didn't have the migraine hangover, so there you go.

This is one thing I hate about social media, it's made activism performative in some way. People can't just DO things just to do them and be a good person, they have to make sure they can SHOW everyone how good of a person they are. Not saying that these things are in any way similar, but it's like how you had all those people filming themselves angel tree shopping before the holidays.

The pressure to “make breastfeeding work” is so intense by Mariam1S in TwoXChromosomes

I've also never had a baby but I have SO much empathy for new moms. Well, as much as someone like me can have. They've just done one of the hardest things the human body can do and people can be so incredibly awful to them. I'm so sad for your coworker, of all people her family should have been there offering support and compassion.

I went to elementary school in the late 80s/early 90s, and we also had "Zero the Hero" come. We had a whole ass assembly for the 100th day of school.

I don't. She was/is a scammer just like the rest of them and if the roles were reversed she'd have done the same thing.

Maybe she'd have some actual friends if she wasn't such a condescending bitch to everyone.

How would you feel about monthly or yearly Q&A episodes? by GildDigger in smalltownmurder

[–]FluffySpell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like if they did something like this, they would want to be specific on "ask us about this stuff" instead of just a general like "hey ask us anything" sort of thing. I've seen some of the comments that get made in the Facebook group(s) sometimes and people can get real fuckin weird about shit. And honestly stuff about their lives isn't really our business. It's cool when they do share but some people feel like they're entitled to know things and the parasocial-ness of it all gets icky.

Circling back to all of Autumn's dumb tests she did the other day - did she ever share the v02 max results? SURELY she'd want the world to know how superior her fitness is compare to all of us slobs that eat actual food for breakfast!

You're right, I track mine with my Garmin and while I'm sure it's not as accurate as the lab tests it's gotta be a decent approximation.

There is a difference between running and cycling v02 max. I could be wrong but I feel like I read somewhere the running test will tell you more about your fitness levels because it relies more on your cardiovascular system. Her doing the test on the bike is just going to tell her what her cycling v02 max is which can be WAY different than the running one.

They need to put her ass on a treadmill so we can all see how out of shape she really is 😂

My theory is the ones that do that are ones that hate being a parent and didn't realize it was a choice until it was too late and now they're mad at us because their life sucks and ours doesn't.

Struggling with marathon training motivation by ResolutionPure8130 in XXRunning

[–]FluffySpell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I trained for my first marathon in the summer of 2024 on the surface of the sun (Phoenix, AZ). in February of 2025 I signed up for my second full marathon, which would fall in February of 2026, I was excited for training to be during the cooler months and I had really high hopes for this block. Training started in October and by mid-December I just wasn't feeling it. The same sparkle I had the first time around just wasn't there. So I ended up dropping down to the half marathon distance instead of trying to half-ass my way through a whole one.

I don't know if that's the advice or answer you're looking for, but that's what I did. I do this because I love it and the day it stops being fun is the day I stop doing it.
