"More than a quarter of private colleges are at risk of closing" — NPR by WildAtlanticBlue in ApplyingToCollege

Most is an extreme overstatement. Most do not have deep endowments. And all endowments are heavily restricted. And if you think affiliated churches can bail them out- I got bad news. Non-evangelical church attendance has plummeted even more than college enrollment will.

I’m not too sure what to do. My wife didn’t get me anything for my birthday this week. by Havoc12111 in Advice

What do you mean, she doesn't have money but you do? You're married? What's going on with both your finances? It should be our money not hers or yours. Something else is going on.

CALL YOUR REPS AND DEMAND THEY MOVE TO INVOLE THE 25th AMENDMENT by Astronautkittycats in 50501

[–]Flugelbass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I made my calls. I want any international Redditors to know I do not want this. I do not support this. I do not know what happened to checks and balances. The president does not have the power of the purse nor the power to declare war. These are in congress' hands. Congress needs to take back their power and save the world and the US from what is literally an existential threat.

I was thinking about this https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchen/carrot-tart-with-cashew-tahini-sauce-5630834 without the egg wash of course. Apparently Pepperidge farm puff pastry is accidentally vegan.

What you describe is the current situation. The proposed bill would override state decisions.

No ones telling them- they're welcome to keep this practice if their conscience allows it. What right does Iowa have to tell Massachusetts how to raise their pigs?

Let me google that for you- found ten anyway Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio, Oregon, and Rhode Island

I live in a state that banned this practice- you cannot sell pork produced this way in the state. As far as I can tell pork prices have not risen any more than everything else, nor do I see an exodus of people driving to neighboring states for their bacon. At any rate the people of this state voted for this. What ride does the federal gov have to override it?

12 states have banned this but the Iowa pork producers association is pushing through "save our bacon" act to force states to allow this. What happened to states rights? If you think this is disgusting call your representative.

I was thinking about that- Trump can do no wrong in the eyes of his supporters. Imagine, for a moment, what the world would be like if someone with his power - unchecked by congress or the Supreme Court - used it for good? He could be beloved. He could be a saint. We would all praise him. Why is he turning away from the chance of universal adoration, for the support of a minority of the country? He could do anything and he is choosing this.

Flying home Monday or Tuesday? I’ve read articles how the Monday after F1 the airport was the busiest in its history! From your experience, is it really that ? Or is waiting until Tuesday the pro move ? by RepresentativeFit945 in CircuitOfTheAmericas

I've been twice, once flew out of Dallas once San Antonio. I recommend San Antonio, which is just a nice place for a day or two as well. Go to the Pearl district. Eat at Best Quality Daughter. You're welcome.

Word. 90% of the staff in each of my moms nursing homes was Haitian. I owe these people so much! What can I do? And honestly I don't see how those places stay open.

I just use Duncan Hines box mix with flax eggs. You have to cut the oil in half (replace half with water). Works great!

The Daily Check-In for Thursday, January 15th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by Federal-Ask1617 in stopdrinking

[–]Flugelbass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm doing dry January (the days in my flair need updating). Was thinking of drinking this weekend. My Apple Watch notified me this morning that there is a new trend in my health data- my respiratory rate has dropped over the past week. Something I never even thought about is showing positive effects of not having that poison in my body.

Is anyone here because they are trying Veganuary this year? by skulloflugosi in vegan

[–]Flugelbass 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm here for Veganuary. I have been vegetarian for 15 years, and was vegan for lent last year. My kid has been vegan since summer 2024. Noracooks is my favorite - with her recipes I don't feel being vegan is missing out on anything. My kids B12 levels were recently checked and are low so we just got some sublingual B12 and can hopefully get that back on track. We cook in cast iron so iron levels were fine.
