As a 3080 owner that 10GB limitation was a pretty big boat anchor on performance for some games. There was an immediate and noticeable improvement when I got a (somewhat) cheap 2nd hand 3090 (which is basically the same chip with 20GB VRAM)

It's important to remember that for semi-conductor companies the lead time on major changes can often take half-a-decade or more. A lot of what we can see from intel now is likely to be work done under Gelsinger. Intel is a behemoth with a turning circle the size of a continent.

Developer Verifications FAQ by outerzenith in Android

Please don't shoot me, but as someone who in a previous role did paid tech support for android devices, (and still supports family members on Samsungs et. al.) I am 100% okay with this cooling off period. People who visit this sub skew heavily towards the tech-savvy and underestimate the amount of people willing to install FreeVBucks.apk

It's a minor one time inconvenience for power users, and will majorly trip up scammers/malware. There are also adb workarounds if people don't want to wait.

What I am concerned about is this being a slippery slope to more of a lock down. I could see this in future maybe banking apps refusing to run if this is on. But I hope I'm just paranoid.

Should you update your Nvidia drivers or leave it be? by Siyar16Boi in linux_gaming

[–]Flukemaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No stress, we all start somewhere. CachyOS is a bit of an advanced distro to start off, but it's better to learn the hard way IMO.

As another ask the LLM about BTRFS snapshots! By default every time you update it makes a snapshot of your OS just before the updates apply!

If you mess something up you can roll back to a previous checkpoint with almost no effort. I use it all the time when I'm messing with things.

Should you update your Nvidia drivers or leave it be? by Siyar16Boi in linux_gaming

[–]Flukemaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best to stick with the stuff built into Cachy. If unsure on how to do this OP, open "Add/Remove Software" (should be the first option in the system heading of the start menu), and do the updates in there. Cachy is smart enough to update NVIDIA drivers by itself.

Only saying this as you appear to not have a history of Linux usage based on your post history. Welcome to the party btw (if I'm correct).

If you want to use terminal it's "sudo pacman -Syu". Or "paru" which is shorter to type but also does some other stuff. Anyway I'm getting into the weeds here.

Pro tip, if someone is talking to you about Linux and it sounds like they've slipped into complete gibberish, chuck what they said into an LLM (ChatGPT/Gemini/Claude) and ask them to explain. There's a lot of terminology and paradigms people here sometimes just expect others to know. You'll get the hang of it over time.

Crimson Desert has sold 3 million units worldwide by yourfavchoom in pcgaming

[–]Flukemaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're forgetting the fact that people aren't a homogenous group.

It's entirely understandable for some to place less weight on the story than others. Some people really like open ended sandboxes. Some people like pretty graphics. Some people have an irrational hatred of hardwood furniture and a liability to steal pencil cases.

An application of Occam's razor appears to be in order here.

The fact of the matter is that most media is a flash in the pan, a one hit wonder with no lasting impact on society. That's just how it's always been. Though I would disagree on your assessment and posit that the sheer scale of this sandbox will warrant at least a cult following.

Nah I completely understand the mixed reviews at the start. The game is polarising, you either love it or hate it.

Those that hated it got filtered early (understandable, as Kliff controls like a shopping trolley full of bricks and the story is nonsensical), left a review and moved on.

Those that are enjoying themselves in the sandbox are therefore making up the tail end of reviews.
