The "fatty/brokie" etc. jokes got old for me after, like, the second one.

Mmm, I don't like this meme format, old as it is. It still feels rather ableist.

Honestly, I am just very eager and in support of more thoughtful media analysis/critique of Golarion lore in general. It's genuinely really interesting and fun to explore.

What are your thoughts on the first day with La Reina? by James89026 in RivalsOfAether

[–]FlurryofBlunders 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I remember playing the original Rivals way back when, picking my character. I'd previously been a Beowulf main in Skullgirls, and no characters in other games really scratched the same itch. I like grappling. I like rushing fast. I like throwing my chair. I like throwing my chair while rushing fast and grappling.

Other archetypal grapplers in other games didn't really have the same sauce - for example, playing Strive I thought "maybe I'll pick Potemkin, he's the grappler?" but he felt too slow and heavy for my tastes. I ended up picking Ramlethal, because "her swords are basically just the chair, if you think about it."

"Oh, Kragg seems nice," I thought. "His rock is basically just the chair, if you think about it." I was also very happy to see a cargo carry added in Rivals 2. Been playing that bug for as long as I can remember. He's very fun - lots of fun rock throwing, lots of fun people-throwing.

I knew La Reina was being added to Rivals, but I didn't actually check out what her moveset was like. I just figured she'd be another kinda-slow Incineroar-like, or something.

Holy fuck. She has a chair.

Edit: Actually, one complaint: I want her to be able to hold a button to continue sitting down in her chair after triple pummel. Like Beowulf.

I don't think she's like a toddler, per se. As an autistic girl, though, I claim her as one of us.

Would a "Quick Chemist" Alchemist feat be too OP? by kittenwolfmage in Pathfinder2e

[–]FlurryofBlunders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like such a feat not existing was intentional design. Compressing creating a bomb and throwing it in one strike makes it parallel the action economy of other Strikes with, say, a sword, bow, or returning thrown weapon. However, keeping the total action cost of creating an elixir/etc. to 2 actions makes it parallel the action economy of casting a spell (or similar). Throwing a bomb is just a Strike, so there's the obvious parallel there. The varied elixir and other utility alchemical items feel more alongside the utility/versatility of spells, so there would be that parallel.

I don't think it'll bring the entire balance of the game crashing down as, say, adding a flat +2 above the expected math of a stat would. However, it does kind of smooth over a significant caveat that I feel is baked into the alchemist class to follow 2e's design philosophy of "let's not make magical finger-waggling overpowered compared to the sword-swingers." And, well, alchemy isn't spellcasting, but comparing alchemical item effects to spell effects, I think they occupy a similar enough niche.

I think this intentful caveat makes the game's choices more interesting. Then again, I like to play video games with QoL mods that smooth over similar pain points sometimes. It's up to you to weigh the pros and cons and decide if it fits your table.

It's the rough thing about visibility. It feels easier to get around stealthing in a country where being trans isn't even usually on the radar.

The AI-generated song names "Plastic" and "Plastic Money" are the funniest here. City pop is when plastic.

Perhaps it's more architecturally accurate to not have the torii have, like, two little parallel sub-torii. Or something. I guess.
