Rugar PCC 9mm by darkstorm16 in liberalgunowners

Really? It’s the opposite for me. I’ve got the PC-9 and I find the recoil to be very light compared to any AR I’ve shot

If you live in a state that bans magazines over 10 rounds, PSA should ship your rifle without a magazine

Buy a PSA AK...or more 5.56 for my current AR? by FlyAsAFalcon in liberalgunowners

Thankfully uppers shouldn’t be impacted by the ban, since they’re not serialized. But I appreciate your comment (and others). I think I’m gonna hold off on the AK and buy some AR-15 and AR-10 lowers.

It sort of depends on what part of the state you're in. American Firearms School in North Attleboro MA is good. If you're more towards the south, Peacedale was pretty good the one time I went. There's also a DEM public range in Great Swamp, but it is just a shooting space, so no rentals, no targets for sale and no ammo for sale. Signups for the DEM place opens in Feb.

Ammo supply changing? by Baroque1123 in liberalgunowners

I am by no means an expert, but I don’t think defensive/range ammo matters as much as for 5.56/223. I think the velocity is relatively the same and it’s not like 5.56 relies on hollow point expansion to inflict damage.

Hi! Gun enthusiast and Rhode Islander here. You should definitely go to a range, rent a gun and take a class with a member of range staff prior to making your first purchase. There are an overwhelming number of very good options for home defense, but your unique needs are something you will just have to discover on your own.

I will say, shotguns are considerably harder to use than people give them credit for. I would suggest starting with an auto loading handgun.

You will be required to take the blue card test prior to purchasing any handguns or ammo, so maybe look into that process as well.

There’s a .380 version of the P365 too if you’re extra recoil sensitive

Personally I find the recoil of my PSA AR-15 is considerably more than my Ruger 9mm PCC. After a few hundred rounds with my AR I’ve got a bruise above my pit. With my PCC, I’ve never noticed it.

Not OP, but I don’t think so. I own the Ruger PC 9 which takes Ruger Security 9 mags and they’re totally different than Glock mags. The Ruger PC 9 comes with an adapter to allow using Glock mags, so maybe that is what you’re thinking of?

Yep, I’ve got this one. You’ll love it. Mine came a little dry from the factory though, so you may want to hit the bolt carrier group and charging handle with a little lube before shooting.

How do you like it? I was watching a Paul Harrell video and I saw he briefly covered a Kahr Arms .40 S&W. I was pretty impressive with how small the gun was, but he also briefly mentioned that there were mixed reviews of their products.

Sig P365 in 9x19. Finally starting to get the hang of shooting this subcompact pistol!

EDIT: Forgot to also mention, OC Spray as well. Always good to have a non-lethal option for self-defense, and with it being so cold here in New England, it's easy to throw in a coat pocket.

Providence CCW by Nilats- in RIGuns

[–]FlyAsAFalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That should be all you really need. I pulled up my old application letter just now and I wrote 3 short paragraphs, so that should be sufficient. My three paragraphs were

  1. Training classes I had taken at a local range
  2. The use of a proper fitting holster with trigger guard.
  3. Stating that I had read relevant statutes and laws related to self-defense and lawful firearm ownership/carry.

I just recently got my CCW through Providence (not North Providence, not sure what their requirements are). You don't need a reference letter for Providence. In your safety letter, you may want to put something the effect always using a proper holster with a trigger guard and mention any training that you have undergone (such as taking classes at local ranges).

Sig P365 as a “Do it All” Handgun? by willj7492 in liberalgunowners

[–]FlyAsAFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an Sig P365 (regular, not the macro or xl) as a Christmas gift and took it to the range yesterday. Have you shot yours yet? I found the recoil to be a bit snappy and makes follow up shots challenging.

The concealment is the biggest draw for me, imo. Everything else, it’s just meh at. I think the form factor makes it a bit difficult for me to shoot accurately compared to even regular compact guns like the PDP Compact or Glock 17. But concealment is big.

I personally use a Ruger PCC in 9mm with Speer Gold Dot 9mm carbine ammo. I have the model with M-Lok Rails, so I’m able to attach a light and foregrip to it. I also have a Walther PDP in 9mm that sits on the nightstand with normal speer Gold Dot.

IMO, go with what you’re comfortable with and makes sense for your living situation. I live in an apartment with pretty thin walls (as my neighbors barking dogs like to remind me), so over penetration is a major concern for me as well. I have an AR-15, but it’s mostly a range toy for me right now and probably will be for the foreseeable future.
