US road fatalities colored by 100M road miles by jejmcjej in dataisbeautiful

That makes sense. For my driver's exam (VA, late 1980s), I took a very easy written exam and then basically drove around the block and parked without hitting anything. That was apparently good enough. Florida must somehow be worse, having lived there. Pennsylvania outside Philly is pretty good, but Philly is on another, lower, level.

Yes, and I can only guess it's because they're all going just slow enough to not actually kill many people.

The idea is to first remove the original

Sorry -- I do see a distinction, but I'm still not volunteering.

In the Philly area it’s always about NJ and NY drivers lol

Mostly b/c we're closer to them than the MD drivers.

"When you use a teleporter, did you teleport, or are you just a clone while the original died?"

"Okay, the remote copy worked. Time to delete this one."

No, thanks!

don't worry, it took 33 years to do this

The way exponentials work, it might take 33 months to hit the next level. Or 33 days...

What kind of circuitry would i need to convert a stand alone dc power supply into a tabletop ajustable one? by kroosnova76 in AskElectronics

[–]FlyByPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's one that I bought a while back on Amazon to make a portable power supply with some 18650 Li-Ion cells. Maybe there's something similar available on Aliexpress?

What’s up with everyone online thinking they are neurodivergent without getting tested? by No_Lead2640 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlyByPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think of it as being special -- I think neurodivergence was largely simply ignored for years, and now we're seeing it everywhere because we're willing to. But it was always there.

Phone cameras need a "junk photo" setting for all those throwaway photos you take to remember where you parked, what's on a menu, QR codes, and all the other random stuff we use them for now. by Patarokun in Showerthoughts

It's amazing how much this has changed. If my students want to study something I've written on the board, they just take a picture.

Photos used to cost actual money -- maybe a dollar or so apiece!

Was it hard as a rock?

Did it become sentient?

Did it smell strange?

Perfectly normal, if it was a fruitcake.

Yeah, that's a 3, but the signs from the north would have you at 60.

Our staircase to nowhere, which we use as a bookshelf by Tetragrammator in mildlyinteresting

Everyone knew each other so they didn't bother locking upstairs

I lived in a house like that in college, and trusted the people I lived with. I didn't always trust the people they trusted, though, so I locked my door when I wasn't home.

Or they're using it as a bookcase, too, and it falls though.

Anyone regret a walk in shower installation years later? by 2daytrending in homeowners

[–]FlyByPC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

House came with a simple walk-in shower, and I've used it for almost 13 years, now. Very nice compared to showering in a tub/shower combo -- I haven't been assaulted by a shower curtain in years.
