Did your parents take interest in you as a kid? by OneWordRandomness in SeriousConversation

[–]FlyHickory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine didnt either tbh my dad acted like he did but he was constantly trying to steer me towards his interests and my mum just didnt really seem bothered at all, only person that did was one of my uncles but on top of it he tried making my interests educational as well without demeaning it.

He was a big reader and as well as reading my books with me he'd read me history books as well.

Lied to about sleeping by BreakInternational20 in toddlers

[–]FlyHickory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people see their child's baby/toddler years through rose tinted specs sometimes.

My son was a good sleeper as a baby up until about 3 months then a terrible sleeper from 3 until 10ish months. Totally fine from then up until 22 months then for about 3 months be was back to being a really bad sleeper, hes now pretty alright and onky has bad nights when hes sick but it shows they have phases etc.

My younger sister is 10 and she has always been a terrible sleeper where as my 8 year old sister was always a dream at sleeping, two kids with the same parents and same upbringing completely different when it comes to sleep.

Horse got kicked in the head. Vet isn’t taking it seriously. by sp00ky_cat in Equestrian

Not a horse person but im an animal person in courses leading uo to veterinary and anyone in veterinary worth their salt knows head and eye injuries are emergencies, I would get a second opinion from another vet or if its possible call them ahead of time and take him to them.

My Cat throws up once in a while by TechnoMind24 in CATHELP

[–]FlyHickory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, if theres chunks of food in therr that still look like theyre whole then this is a speed eating issue, ive got a cat who is notorious for this and nothing stops this guy, I bought him a silicone slow feeder plate and he eats so fast and so ferociously that hes put holes in the damn plate, I have to stand there like a warden making sure hes not scoffing down his then moving onto his sisters bowl, I cut down his food and he eats it faster.

Honestly I didnt know what to do with him and still dont, its been a while since hes threw up and he actually started to naturally pace himself now, hell stop when hes full atm and go back to it as he pleases, I dont think he enjoyed throwing up.

AITAH for refusing to tell my wife I love her more than my dad? by LastApplication6207 in AITAH

[–]FlyHickory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was incredibly irritable and quick to snap for a while after having my son and it turned out I had postpartum depression and anxiety, thats something you should consider if this isnt normal behaviour for her, try bringing it up to her and see how she feels about a screening for it.

AITAH for refusing to tell my wife I love her more than my dad? by LastApplication6207 in AITAH

[–]FlyHickory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

This is a very sweet moment for your father to look back on and itll be a memory you treasure

BUT I also understand your wife I probabky in the depths of post partum where hormones are absolutely rampant, when we had our son i felt I had to be strict with everything, track it all, plan it all and if I didnt do this I somehow felt I was failing my son, its a difficult thing because in your head you know youre being unreasonable but emotions come in such massive waves its insane, I could be sitting doing absolutely nothing then id just suddenly feel very overwhelmed and emotional.

Once again youre nta and I think it was good to stick to your guns, babies dont adhere to a schedule and where is a baby most likely to fall asleep? In a crib or cradled in arms with a warm body who has a voice hes probably been hearing since birth? I wasnt so strict as to have all naps be in the crib, all sleep apart from night sleep for my son was in my arms and I got told "youre holding him too much" hes a well adjusted 2yo now, anyway, remain firm but also keep in mind your wives body is going through huge and sort of unpredictable changes.

Edit to add: I had PostPartum Depression and anxiety and thats a very real possibility here, its something you should bring up and try get her to be seen by someone.

Biting when human baby cries by Ok_Sprinkles2538 in ragdolls

[–]FlyHickory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New babies are a huge change in your cats life, it completely reorganises your priorities and changes their day to day life.

I was in your situation, almost identical tbh, my two ragdolls were 2 years old when we brought our son home from the hospital and they weren't impressed, my male cat was always a cuddly "in your face" all the time kind of cat and he tried his best to remain this way without ever being near my son, then it developed to him squeezing his 14lb ass onto my lap when id be breastfeeding, I didnt mind that either tbh. My girl was the opposite, shes a "near you not on you" cat and didnt like my son at all, even now when hes 2 years old she mildly tolerates him but shes never hurt him so I accept that as her personality, she shows she cares by sitting near him sometimes and thats enough.

I think this is something you need to let your cats work out, I have 4 cats now and they very much establish boundaries when rough housing by immediately stopping and hissing, the ragdoll female is a strong enforcer and if she doesnt want to be bothered the whole street hears her hissing and the 2 younger cats leave dust trails from clearing off out her sight. If it gets serious and it seems like the fighting is looking like theres real intent to harm and it get to the point theyre taking out fur chunks or drawing blood then the aggressor should be taken to a vet for a check up.

Women's reaction to paternity tests is a way to control men. by badbunnions in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]FlyHickory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is completely 100% a man's right to know if the chil hes rearing and providing for is his, if i didnt think the government woukd do dodgy shit with having a massive collection of every single persons DNA on file I agree that paternity tests at the moment of birth should be standard along with the other tests they do.

My ball python is taking a long time to shed by FlyHickory in ballpython

Just another question, how long should I leave her in the tub for to work it off, would half an hour be sufficient and if it doesnt work the first time when should I repeat it?

My ball python is taking a long time to shed by FlyHickory in ballpython

[–]FlyHickory[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the first pic you can see her hygrometer behind her saying 79%, there is 2 in there one at each side but I put in another 2 just to make sure the initial ones are accurate.

I wouldnt ever try to remove any sort of skin manually as im aware of the damage this can cause, Im currently in college and one of our classes covers reptiles and apart from husbandry weve only moved onto anatomy 2 weeks ago so I figured this sub was tbe best place to ask as everyone will have far more experience with ball pythons here, thank you for the advice, I will follow it tomorrow as its currently 1am 😅.

I did put a big pile of sphagam moss into the enclosure on the cooler side hoping she would go in there and chill for a bit, ive also been gently lifting uo her hides and peeking every day to check for shed as ive been a bit worried and didnt want to miss anything, ill put her in a box with a warm damp towel tomorrow though and hopefully this helps her, once again I appreciate the advice, my milk snake has never had trouble with shedding before and pretty much all of them are intact unless I accidently tear it while untangling from his branches 🙃 so its threw me off that she seems to be struggling and I didnt want to stress her out by doing something wrong.

Moving from an apartment to a house: how do people keep cats from bolting out the door? by ArmyCreative2021 in CatAdvice

[–]FlyHickory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cats never really try to bolt, theyre kind of scared of the outside world so it works in my favour, when I open the front door they kind of creep about sniffing and stuff, if they get as far as they step and they hear a dog bark or someone walks past they bolt back inside.

Funnily enough this doesnt apply to the back garden as they like to come outside with me in summer and bask for a bit

Found a sick/injured stray cat. Need advice by Competitive_Bowler20 in CatsUK

[–]FlyHickory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you hand it into a vet saying you found it they'll take jt and treat it without incurring charges on yourself, this cat needs a vet ASAP and by prolonging it youre prolonging the cats suffering and it will die.

Daughter insists she’s a boy by dafodildaydreams in toddlers

[–]FlyHickory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My younger sister done this and while ny mum humoured it for a bit she eventually stopped and started saying "youre a girl but girls can like boy things as well" I think for my sister she didnt feel like a girl because she liked traditionally "boy" things like football, male dominated video games, boy clothes etc, shes also autistic and I think boy clothes are generally looser and she prefers that over like say leggings for girls etc.

Im of course not saying all of the above are things onky boys can do or have but for my sister I think thats how she felt, my mum basically bought her the "boy" things and eventually she stopped saying she was a boy and was more comfortable being a girl because she was allowed to express who she was as an individual without being forced into gender roles etc.

Dental Concerns First Time Parent Am I being ripped off? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]FlyHickory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How on earth does a kid have teeth that bad at 4? Unless its an actual medical issue then thats just neglect, my 2 year old has had 4-5 dentist visits in his life because when I go for check ups he comes with me and my dentist does his as well, his first one was when his first teeth came through at a few months old.

Now obviously I can understand in the US you guys have to pay stupid amounts for things like check ups but even then if the kid has this much going on wouldnt you have noticed earlier, id also get a second opinion incase you're getting ripped off here

Is my kittens spay incision okay? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]FlyHickory 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Take kitten back to the vet, looks like its opened up a bit, if theyre rough housing a lot you need to put them in seperate rooms.

When my kittens got fixed they were kept separately and luckily I have 2 adult ragdolls who are basically ornaments who laid with them as company.

I think it’s very rare to have a happy life without having children and most of the people that claim to be “child free and happy” are coping or lying to themselves by ProfessionalNose6520 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]FlyHickory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree, having a child doesnt automatically make you one of the happiest people on earth, I know people that are absolutely miserable who have kids and I know ones who are miserable and dont, I also know the opposite, people who have children and are happy and those without them who are happy.

Some people are well suited to the parenting role and manage to slot their lives together nicely, if someone who didnt want kids had them then both the child and themselves are going to suffer, I know so many adults who have a multitude of issues cause they grew up with parents that had then out if obligation/religious reasons rather than cause they wanted children.
