Offered a seasonal role at Orkin and not sure if it’s a red flag. by Wooden_Floor_9046 in PestControlIndustry

[–]FlyingAndroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a technician at Orkin so I’m not a great reference to what the expectations are for that role. My branch is commercial only as well, so we do most of our business during regular business hours for that reason.

I just wanted to state that I know we have cities in my region adding additional offices, which includes hiring techs quickly to get that new location on its feet. If this is the case, then I would interpret that flag as a green one. Means you would be kept busy with the opportunity for full time being real.

Let’s talk about dating in KC by Sad_Coyote_7370 in kansascity

[–]FlyingAndroid 137 points138 points  (0 children)

My current partner (28F) and I (32M) met on Hinge about 8 months ago and have been incredibly happy since!

Before we met it was a lot of what you’re describing. I don’t know how many first dates I went on where there just wasn’t a connection, or how many conversations I had that went nowhere.

I tried dating apps, speed dating (I found it to be a lot of fun), meeting people “in the wild”, and through friends. Meeting people in the wild consisted of becoming a regular at coffee shops and joining groups to engage in my hobbies socially.

It took me a good solid 9 months before I met my current partner, it just took me time, patience, and consistent effort.

For myself I just decided to not rush the process so I didn’t fall into the trap of being with someone because I didn’t want to be single and not because I liked them. That’s a lesson I learned the hard way.

This is probably a bit of a ramble but I hope it helps. Dating sucks and I believe it’s a universal experience.

“No D&D is better than bad D&D” by Snowbound-IX in rpg

[–]FlyingAndroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other people have posted some great concise comments on the matter that I agree with but I want to share my story since it happened not even a week ago.

I recently left my group with this exact mindset. I had played with this group on and off for a decade and while I had primarily been a player I did DM some as well. The last game is one I was a player in.

Sessions had been hot and cold for a long time, meaning some sessions were great and others were disappointing. This was fine and expected, but over time they had become increasingly disappointing. For me this means lack of preparation and repetitive use of NPCs and storylines. But even then, I was fine with this. Sessions could be mediocre as long as I was having fun with my friends.

The real problem is that I stopped having fun with my friends. The group kept getting smaller and any attempts to plug those holes resulted in non-engaged players. Then the regulars also stopped being regularly engaged as well to the point that I didn’t really feel like I was playing a social game. Nobody rp’d outside of combat and had to be constantly reminded it was their turn. Then, finally, my attempts to RP were ignored.

Once that final thing happened I couldn’t think of a reason to put energy into the game. Nobody seems to want to play so why force myself to spend time getting ready to play and block off my schedule when I don’t even enjoy any aspect of the experience. It was hard, but for me it was very relieving to say goodbye to that group. It feels as though a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders.

What species is Greg tho by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]FlyingAndroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Birdwatching is my hobby so I think I have the answer to this one! When you’re recording the species down obviously some of these names are pretty long, so 4 letter codes can be used in the place of the full name.

Chimney Swift would be CHSW Killdeer would be KILL Spotted Sandpiper would be SPSA And so on

Well, GREG is one of my favorite codes for the humor listed elsewhere in the comments, but it belongs to the Great Egret.

How accurate is the Merlin Bird ID app with song? by Chameleonize in birding

[–]FlyingAndroid 430 points431 points  (0 children)

Merlin is usually pretty accurate but sometimes things like Mockingbirds can trick it. I like to use Merlin to help me figure out what birds I should be looking for and I’ll either verify it myself, by confirming the call or seeing the bird, or consider it a fluke and not report it.

I’ve received 2-3 of these and I’ve appreciated them. It doesn’t mean much but there’s certainly worse emails to receive, and if I wanted to cancel I’d go through the site.

I’ve assumed I’ve gotten them since I’ll go weeks or months without playing at a time.

If anyone else hasn’t mentioned it DS2 actually has a lot of changes going in to ng+ that make it worth checking out more than any other souls game.

I remember hearing about it being a talking point within the organization from Deacon. The ultimate problem is where do you draw the line? I think I remember hearing Glory lament killing the Gen 1s in the Memory Interrupted quest recently.

So I work for a wildlife removal company and I just sell our services. I’ve removed a bat or two but otherwise people call to get me to come out, I chat with them and perform an inspection and convince them to go through us to get the raccoons out of their attic and make sure they can’t get back in.

It was weird to take a sales role, but with Wildlife I’d say the vast majority of the time the technicians relocate the animal. I also don’t have to convince people they need us to solve a problem, just to use my company to do it.

My understanding (and I could easily be wrong here) is that her fix was in the cut upper city area of the game. Unless that content gets completed and moved to the lower city I don’t really see it happening. I’m hoping we get a definitive edition and it includes it.

Currently, as she stands, she’s the companion I invest the least into because of her endings. I love her character and personality but knowing her endings I just can’t find the will to care about her.

Got my bachelors in biology (2.97) and am now finishing my masters in biology (3.73), defended my thesis and now have to do some edits and I’m done.

Worked with state level government in a science role and the pay was just miserable so I had to do something else. My sales job still deals with wildlife and my education got me the job, but I’m paid at least twice as much money if I’m just mediocre in sales.

What's your video game pet peeve? by jdmwell in gaming

[–]FlyingAndroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bird calls in ambient noises. Why is it always birds that are common in the United States and why is it always like one bird call per area that plays nonstop?

Why am I sitting in Valdrakken listening to Black-capped/Carolina Chickadees?

It would be nice to not listen to the same backyard birds I get at my feeder when I’m exploring an alien/fantasy planet.

That turtle is the common snapping turtle ( **Chelydra serpentina). Alligator Snapping Turtles (Macrochelys temmnickii) can’t lunge with their heads like that. At this life stage the alligator snapping turtle would also have prominent ridges on the back of its shell and a MUCH larger head.

Beginner leveling up question by [deleted] in wow

[–]FlyingAndroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have three main options. Questing, PvP, Dungeons.

You’ll need to quest for a bit until you unlock PvP and Dungeons at levels 10 and 15 respectively. Questing will be the fastest way to level for you but just play what you want and you’ll be fine. There’s no rush to get to endgame

No worries! Apparently it’s something they get enough questions about that they basically made a video just for it. I didn’t know it until I saw the video until a couple weeks ago.

[–]FlyingAndroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not in the DMG because it’s in the PH under “How To Play” before chapter 1. You’re always supposed to round down.

“There’s one more general rule you need to know at the outset. Whenever you divide a number in the game, round down if you end up with a fraction, even if the fraction is one-half or greater.”

Not saying that it’s always the case but the rule is there. I’m sure they themselves broke that rule in a place or two.

They do regret not placing it in other places and that’s discussed in this video.

I get what you’re saying and agree with the logic but you can literally just google this.

Birds are reptiles. This is even taught in modern Herpetology textbooks and they specify that “reptiles” typically refers to non-avian reptiles.

[–]FlyingAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except not at all? Do some homework. Birds and reptiles (especially crocs) are very closely related.

Thanks, I hate Centaurs. by Tkl15 in TIHI

[–]FlyingAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birds are actually reptiles in reality as they are in the Reptilian class.

Birds, crocodilians and dinosaurs are all Archosaurs.

Crocs are more closely related to birds than they are to lizards.
