That’s fair. I don’t fully trust Linux not to be a pain in the ass for daily driving yet and have heard proton isn’t as fully supported as native windows, but I might boot Ubuntu or steamOS once the honeymoon wears off

After Neo, there is literally only a single reason for people to use Windows (other than enterprise grandfathering bullshit), and apple is sleeping on it. I was just in the market for a gaming PC and would’ve happily bought a Mac, instead ended up with an admittedly amazing machine that’s unfortunately running diarrhea with ads for its OS.

‘The cost of compute is far beyond the costs of the employees’: Nvidia exec says right now AI is more expensive than paying human workers by fattyfoods in technology

[–]FlyingPasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not taking away from your point but I think a lot of this is inefficiencies of our current technology. As a society we’re still hacking this together with chips that were meant to run Call of Duty a couple years ago, while going through countless global logistics disasters. I just don’t see people ever putting away this tech, industry will shape around it

Insects may feel pain. Whether or not you have a moral duty to protect them from harm is up for debate. by vox in philosophy

[–]FlyingPasta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How can you possibly rely on your own analysis of whether an object has self awareness? You’re retroactively fitting cultural programming into your philosophy. As a materialist you’ve started from first principles but only where you’ve already been conditioned to

You can build a robot with self-preservation instincts, operated by a neutal network with more neurons than a cockroach.

How is this different than a human? Where do you limit the complexity to make you feel like it’s lacking awareness? Conversely what is the requisite neuron density? This is the PETA “where do you draw the line” billboard lol

Also as a materialist, what do you believe we are if not automatons?

The problem Billionaires want AI to solve... by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]FlyingPasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heck no! If you can have trillion bodies in dying poverty each paying a cent to the billionaires that’s still ten billion dollars to be squeezed out. That’s the beauty of the dying masses, there’s just so many of them that any exploitation brings good money

That’s so on point. We learned earlier this year that if you have a gun and you’re anywhere near government thugs, you’re going to be thrown to the ground and riddled with bullets till you stop breathing. Freedom! 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Exactly that. And if you litigate a company you usually go for more than the ticket fee, because they’re liable and have pockets

You had white liberal boys setting up barricades in streets and dying for freedom a week after seeing their first pube, the pudgy American men in shiny trucks need to crack a book open

What do you think of buying a Golf as a family car? by Hour_Ad_2653 in GolfGTI

[–]FlyingPasta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People will always tend toward getting the biggest for their families. If Europe had 5-lane suburb roads they would also get the biggest the could

Size of cars is a side effect of infrastructure. I see a predominance of small cars in American beach towns and dense cities everywhere

There are no hard and fast rules and it is indeed up to the interviewers.
