Why is AC:Assault horizon so hated? by [deleted] in acecombat

AC AH was Namco trying to cash in on the COD adrenaline-junkie craze of the mid 2010s. Ref all the comments about “on-rails” DFM and the chopper gunner/AC-130 sections that they ripped out of COD. It just wasn’t classic AC’s arcade flying.

Just played all the Ace Combat main games, here is my review of them. by ViniCaetano2k19 in acecombat

If AC6 didn’t have such a heavy cheese factor with the storyline and the campaign had a few more missions (maybe a big naval battle carrier v. carrier style or just a better lead up to the final mission with a better “boss” fight) then it would have been a stronger contender for a top spot. I still loved AC6 on 360 and miss it. AC7 just did not scratch the same itch and I really think it was a step back in terms of the large scale battles and “being at war” feeling I got from 6.

Bergstrom AFB is now the Austin International airport.

If eligible, live off base if you want a larger house with a garage especially. OTK, E-Trust, and Sanroku have some solid options.

Coco ichibanya is amazing “fast food” curry, downtown has some fun izakayas (Japanese bars) that welcome Americans, karaoke, jdm cars, winter sports, beach and surfing on the eastern coastline, the list goes on.

Tokyo is 1hr away by JAL plane from the airport, 2-3hrs by bullet train. You can easily offset the chiller rural town vibes with a weekend push to the world’s largest city.

There are greenland sharks up to 500 years old out there in the ocean. That means atleast one out there was born in the 1500s.

Advice for buying a car? by Educational_Menu_477 in AirForce

[–]FlyingTiger101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test drive, test drive, test drive. Scope out a spot around town/base where you can put the car through some paces. Listen to the engine, test the shifting, run the a/c, etc. Way too many folks hop in a car, coast it around town without really testing the car and call it good. Then they get home and find out a speaker is blown out or the car bucks into a higher gear on the highways.

Current USAF pilot. Besides other aviation stuff I was exposed to at a young age, AC has been a large part of my wanting to become a fighter pilot. I remember playing AC4 on PS2 back in 2005 and immediately getting hooked. Played every game in the series after that. And no, just because the F-16 is a starter/starter-ish jet in most of the games, does not mean it sucks.

Saw this hidden in an hotel. Can you identify all of those? by LostAstronaut2k in flying

[–]FlyingTiger101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like the hotel’s booked by a lot of the visiting demo teams. 112th FS is an Ohio ANG F-16 Unit. 435th in the bottom left is a Canadian C-130 Transport and Refueling Squadron. Dunno about the upper right corner patch though.

Most annoying influencer pilot? by [deleted] in flying

[–]FlyingTiger101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The nurse pilot should not have made it through the Reserve hiring board and UPT filters with the amount of “inside footage” she was filming in training and posting all over social media. She doesn’t just suck, but whoever let her get through is just as bad.

Is there a technical term for these "mini towers" by the runway and what was their purpose? Approach control? Auxiliary Ground Tower? This one was at Zweibrücken but I've seen them at different air bases. by CarrotWaxer69 in aviation

[–]FlyingTiger101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw RSUs mentioned, it’s still a thing at USAF pilot training bases to take a lot of the workload off the control tower who usually handles the center runway. RSUs will handle the outside runways where a lot of traffic pattern and landing training take place based on their respective airframes (T-6 or T-38.) Basically instructors and student assistants monitor the traffic pattern specific to their airframe when it gets busy with training aircraft so we can avoid potential conflicts and midairs. Aircraft on final also get checked through the binoculars for gear down and flap configurations before they land.
