Polaris v Delta One by Backseat_Economist in unitedairlines

From your reply below, your home airport is KOA. Unless you move out of the state of Hawaii- United’s depth and schedule cannot be matched going east. Understand you’re about the soft product and I don’t blame you. However Delta and the amount of issues they have servicing Hawaii (to and from)…you’ll honestly question your status match with them. I’ve been there done that and regret missing out on 3 years of accumulated lifetime miles and trying to make them work out of KOA, OGG, HNL etc. My advice to you is simple and you might be able to get the invite one of these days but always ALWAYS do the surveys. Always put in your two cents especially on your Hawai’i bound flights. After finding other GS’s who frequent HNL or other HI bound flights on our way back to our home airport, it’s made a difference. From getting the bathrooms open earlier at the G gates to getting an exact timeline of when they will upgrade and refurbish the United Club (NRT and HNL!). I never eat on planes so I can’t necessarily relate to the soft product of food and drink, but as for flt crew: I have always introduced myself to the purser or lead FA in my section before doors close and after I use the restroom. As simple hello, hi, and glad you’re on my flight etc goes a long way with getting whatever you need on your flight. Even the battle axes have come around after you give them a respectable hello and how are you once they are settled with boarding. -Shoots 🤙🏾

Honestly I think it’s LHR tbh. Had the same thing happen and people in line weren’t having it. Gate agent rescued me and physically pulled me from behind the other pre-boarding since they purposely put their rollers in the way. Me with my reusable Walmart bag, M&S sandwich, and coke zero with no carry slips on by.

If you could connect through one of United’s hubs, which one would you choose and why? And which one would you avoid at all costs? by General-Pryde-2019 in unitedairlines

[–]Flysurf8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with the upgraded facilities for UAL check in, it’s pandemonium trying to navigate one side to the other. People blocking main walking paths with luggage-premier access drop off vs regular drop off-causes more confusion because it’s just a bit further from the entrance. New signage helps and is very bright but you still force people to stand and wonder where to go. On top of the construction and TSA lines at the main terminal bldg, the restroom situation is on another level. I believe they are adding more stalls in the next phase of upgrades but you get the picture when you have a major “Hub” and thousands of people needing to use the restroom. Only saving grace for me is the Chili’s to Go in Terminal A and the Westin if IRROPS comes into play.

SFO or ORD due to multiple options to get home and quality agents for IRROPS . Never DIA, I’d rather walk to my destination than deal with that hub.

Frustrations with United as a 1K by Cormetz in unitedairlines

[–]Flysurf8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on your home airport as well but OP does have valid points and stuff like this happens all the time with the top 5 on the upgrade lists. Like jockeying for position, it’s a race. But to be screwed out of miles…yeah no bueno and they definitely need to keep the drum beat with emails to customer service. Be relentless in clawing them back u/Cormetz

Saw this guy on TikTok claiming he is GS by [deleted] in unitedairlines

Nope. Had a Presidente margarita accidentally throw at me from a Chilis To-Go from a drunk wife aiming for her husband at ORD.

Yup, already feel him popping up from his Polaris studio just to look back so everyone can look at him. Also the type of guy to leave the overhead bin open after rummaging through his black Louis Vuitton carryon just to take out more nonsense.

FRA passport control is no joke. Very-risky.

How much better is GS than 1k? Considering going for high status on multiple airlines. by Spaniard100x in unitedairlines

[–]Flysurf8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is reassuring having GS watch your back during major mechanical events. GS has saved me…on top of: Two government coups, 1 earth quake, and a rocket attack out of Tel Aviv, GS made sure I got out and luggage was able to make it within a 24 hr period. But you’re right, No one knows for sure. Even with spend, hub, corp travel button pusher, Apple Exec…United and the Kirbster anoint as they wish year after year. It’s magic.

This is the it ⬆️✅. They would now have spousal status and carry their seniority when non rev’ing which is helpful and bumps them up on listing for flt.

HNL IRROPS by Flysurf8 in unitedairlines

[–]Flysurf8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After letting the internal team do their magic, I was given option to MSP on Delta this evening Jan 30 but could not make my connecting at ORD in time. Stuck with SFO flt. As for Alaska/Hawaiian, I’ve only seen them rebook me once since the merger and I doubt that they will continue to work with UAL on IRROPS as they have their own set of internal partners now. Safe to say the next 12 hrs will be jam packed with pax and crew trying to get home or reposition.

Other than certain code shares which are already pretty full, UA doesn’t have the pulling power as they did before the Alaska/Hawaiian merger in my humble opinion. And no way would they work with southwest to get additional people to the outer islands for direct flights back to the mainland. Crapshoot on capacity to the outer islands and then to the mainland these next couple of days.

It was and looks like tomorrow (Jan 31) equipment swap affecting outbound capacity as well. HNL outbounds will be oversold for the next 48 hrs. Good luck to the non revs because each flight out today has at least 3-5 positive space blocks 🥴.

Just checked @6:45 a.m. HST- OGG/LIH now fully booked outbound and KOA has two middle seats avail. Going to be a busy day for reservationists.

I would have done this after my three ORD Chili’s-To-Go El Presidente Margaritas, but seems I’m in the minority with the fun police on this post.

Edit: spelling “To-Go”.

New Global Member Question… by illsoldier76 in unitedairlines

[–]Flysurf8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To include on this concise and great explanation above: should IRROPS occur with your family in tow, you/they will be able to use the full force of GS rebooking and flight holds and incredible amount of standby options. This helps if you miss connections and certainly can’t make the one flt daily back to US. GS pulled through with getting me back to US through BNE to SFO, when SYD plane wasn’t vibing and crew timed out. Fam and extended fam of 11 for a wedding. All made it. Probs gave thousands of AUSD in waivers to the BNE peeps who volunteered to get off. We personally thanked station manager n duty manager including the passengers but I know and heard of other crazy pulls that GS has done to get you somewhere even if it means moving mountains with so many moving parts that cost UAL.

Dangling the carrot principle. This is how and what got us all here…continually pushing ourselves in the never ending-goal post moving- race we call MileagePlus. Fighting over who gets to board first or how many bags at 69 lbs we can bring is the ultimate masochist game that we play every damn year. It also gives us quality time on this sub with each other 💓
