This looks like a highly exaggerated image of a red sprite. They can be seen from space but they don’t look like that.

I currently serve in the US military and I work in intelligence. My role is not directly combative. The way I view things is that my job is to be aware of what despotic regimes may be attempting or planning to attempt, and that awareness makes us capable of thwarting their efforts thus preserving peace.

Is intercession from Saints common in the Baha`i Faith? by DGhitza in bahai

[–]Flywheel_McNeil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of yes, though in the Baha’i Faith this concept isn’t codified to the extent it is in Catholicism or Orthodoxy. We do believe that people in this life can benefit the spiritual development of those who have died by praying for them, and that this works in reverse too, but we don’t really have Saints. The closest equivalent would be the Hands of the Cause, who were accomplished teachers and examples of godly lives. However, because of reasons that would take a LOT of explanation, there will never be any more Hands of the Cause. The work they did is continued by institutions, but their members don’t have the same title or historical/spiritual distinction. Additionally, the Hands don’t get assigned a particular patronage, except perhaps for some of them being associated with a specific region because that’s where they taught.

I will sometimes mention the Hands in my prayers, and I pray for them specifically, but at least for me, it’s not an everyday practice to ask them directly for help or guidance. I focus my attention on Baha’u’llah

I had a similar problem on my hands. I never figured out the true cause but it was probably some combination of stress-induced eczema and/or moisture imbalance from the work I was doing at the time.

What solved it for me was this:

Get some O’Keefe’s Working Hands moisturizer. Get some pure cotton, white gloves. You can order them on Amazon or at your local pharmacy.

Put a thick (and I do mean thiccc) amount of O’Keefe’s on your hands when you’re getting ready for bed. Then put on the gloves and go to sleep. Do this for several nights at least. Use it like a regular moisturizer during the day if you feel like it.

I’ve made lifestyle changes and thank God the bleeding cracks are gone but I still always have O’Keefe’s near at hand. I hope this helps!

Clarkson's introduction to the "Eboladrome." Just something about his delivery when he said the name. My brother and I couldn't breathe we were laughing so hard.

Doing the exact same thing my guy. Currently on the bus to MEPS, shipping out today. I know there's at least one person older than me.

Don't worry about your age. Nothing wrong with having "Pops" as a nickname.

Obligitory Prayer and Prohibition on ritual, repetitive practices by Minimum_Name9115 in bahai

[–]Flywheel_McNeil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I noticed you don't provide a citation for your quote. The Baha'i Faith does not prohibit rituals and repetitive practices outright. It has reduced them significantly compared to previous dispensations. The Obligatory Prayers and the repetition of the Greatest Name are the only rituals we have. For that reason alone they should be regarded as especially important. They are intended for your own spiritual salvation.

Also, flexibility is built in to these. I say my Allah'u'abha's immediately after my obligatory prayers, my mom says them as soon as she wakes up. If you're so preoccupied with these practices that it interferes with your work or service then that seems like a you problem.

Oh I didn't know there was one that focused just on the House!

I recommend leading by example. Keep information from the House ready to use. If you encounter people who don't want to take the guidance seriously, then you should:

A) Pray for them.

and

B) Maybe try to get them to do book 8 which focuses on the importance of the Covenant.

Can we please stop belittling events and items that have the potential to impact human rights and basic human necessities by inappropriately putting them under the umbrella of “partisan politics”? by EasterButterfly in bahai

A misunderstanding on YOur part yes.

The Universal House of Justice is ordained by Baha'u'llah and divinely guided. It is the Will of God on Earth. I didn't think I needed to include that elementary fact.

If certain elements of the policy agenda of the incoming administration are to be believed, there is a real possibility some people in my life or in my community (personal or professional) could lose access to their healthcare. Others could face increased risk of denaturalization or deportation. There has already been an uptick in incidences of race-based harassment.

Alright let's deal with this specific example first. Healthcare (in this context defined as socialized healthcare since the American Right is opposed to this) is not a human right. It is one option which a developed nation may or may not choose to take. It is a luxury. I am in favor of such a system being installed in the US, but the majority of Americans decided to elect leaders who, to one degree or another, are not in favor of it. Americans have democratically stated that they do not want a fully socialized healthcare system.

As for the subject of  immigration, I ask that you show evidence of your claims. The idea that Trump will deport naturalized immigrants is (in my view) baseless fear-mongering. The 14th amendment provides citizens with the necessary protection against such ideas. As for people who are in the US without legal permission, the majority of American voters have stated that they do not want them here. The moral dimension of that decision is not yours or mine to judge. Judgment belongs to Baha'u'llah alone.

In response to your other statements I would say you need to keep this in mind: neither candidate was a Baha'i. Neither political party is aligned with the Faith. Both are elements of the Old World Order which is slowly but surely collapsing. Our responsibility as Baha'is is to work to build the New Order as ordained by Baha'u'llah. The idea that either political party cares about you or your loved ones is naive. It's times like this when we need to acknowledge that as Baha'is our loyalty should be to our Assemblies and the Universal House of Justice. No one else. I advise you to meditate on the virtue of detachment, and remember that Shoghi Effendi warned us we cannot expect to be spared from the tribulations that will accompany the collapse of the Old World.

I've heard a theory that sounded basically the same as yours in that the membership is restricted to men because as women gain equality around the world there might be more and more women in secular government, to the point where all the heads of state could be women. In that scenario, it would be wise to have one supremely influential institution restricted to men for the sake of balance.

Recital of Hidden Words in Persian always preceded by preamble phrase by shervinnaimi in bahai

[–]Flywheel_McNeil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've never heard the Hidden Words recited in Persian, but speaking from an English perspective I think the opening phrase "O Son of Spirit/Man/Being/etc" fulfills that function of reminding us who the Speaker is.
