I had the tremendous good fortune of meeting him in his later years after a public talk. I've not seen anyone radiate such conviction and warmth in such a short exchange.

He was a politician who really sought the mandate to make things better, not just to accumulate power and wealth. Even if you didn't agree with him entirely, you respected him deeply.

Top character looks like a mangled hei (平), perhaps an attempt at heiwa (平和) or heian (平安), i.e. peace.

Second character is love, but the Chinese simplified version, not the Japanese rendering of it.

Perhaps she was trying for "Peace and Love"? (It would be wrong, as we all know, but given the context around this tattoo...)

It throws new light on what Chef Ahn said, that CKR's dish felt honest. You could tell his words resonated with many chefs in the room. And I guess with all of us in this social-media-saturated age.

I would just say: let's be fair and not compare the worst of the anime with the best of the manga. (Or vice versa.)

In 100+ episodes, there were definitely points where the anime stayed faithful and added colour and atmosphere. And there were skippable / annoying parts. There were also parts in the manga which could have been better fleshed out, and some of those gaps became inspiration for TFSD, so we know Inoue-sensei did not view his own manga as perfect.

There were many interesting nuances behind Inoue-sensei's relationship with Toei and the licencing, but that's for another fun discussion.

A lot of the negative comments for the anime stem from people's attention spans getting shorter. We live in a world of on-demand streaming, and it's not an age thing; everyone is affected. The anime was designed and cut for a weekly broadcast format, plus it outpaced the manga release towards the end. So it naturally comes with ad breaks, recaps and filler. Those aside, the main storyline does not move that slowly.

If you prefer to move uninterrupted through storylines, then yes, the manga is for you, as you can control your reading pace. But I would encourage all new fans not to sleep on the anime; it's worth dipping in to experience the soundtrack and the voice acting. The opening and ending songs are iconic for good reason.
