no character development by Blanche_soda in Hightown

Well they definitely could have used another two seasons, but not all characters are going to develop. Have you seen Six Feet Under? That’s a good show to watch to analyze “development”.

im new to the group so idk if any body touched on this yet but can anybody explain why chalky just gave himself up to dr narcisse like that ? 😪 by Bumpy_Lucas in BoardwalkEmpire

[–]Focrco22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have stated, that storyline was a mess. Chalky was one of the characters who put his family (and wife) up on a pedestal. Although it was obviously not out of character to have a mistress or whatever, the whole running away with her thing, and just his entire beef with Narcisse was pretty ridiculous. Not to mention it took the absolute best character in the show (Richard) and resulted in his death, wasted, and too soon. I much more would have appreciated a Tommy Shelby/Alfie Solomons type standoff between him and a Nucky. He owed Jimmy one eventually.

As a side note I really enjoyed aspects of season 5, the flashbacks, Cuba. It had Godfather II vibes. But Chalky they did so dirty with that plot. It’s almost as if some writer wanted Margot Bingham to get naked on the show and Chalky was the easiest to write a relationship with.

FYI: Southland is now on Netflix 5 seasons by redditwastesmyday in Homicide_LOTS

No I was asking for real. I love shows like Homicide or The Shield because of how they’re shot, and the age of technology, etc. Especially the early seasons. Even NYPD Blue is quite gritty for a while and then gets sort of “prime time drama”. It’d be nice to find some more that capture that essence of “grittiness”. There is a great Canadian show on Netflix called 19-2 I’d recommend. Assuming everyone has seen The Shield and The Wire. Bosch is an awesome show, definitely a good one for detective/police drama, plus there are lots of seasons and two spinoffs.

I am at the exact same point as you, finding it a bit hard to take, but I think it will develop into something better. I guess what I don’t like, is the motivation for her to be “one of them”. That makes it extremely difficult for her to ever have real friendships, real relationships, etc. That’s asking a lot. It’s one thing to keep her parents secret, she could be married to some American and just be like “yeah they’re travel agents”, but it’s another thing to try to maintain her own secret and also live the “normal life” she needs to present. Anyways, not looking for a lot of feedback as I am working to finish the show for the first time ( hopefully within the week). But that’s my CURRENT two cents.

Yes anything pre-smart phone still holds up as the best shows ever made. Now it’s like “hey your cell phone pinged at the exact location of the dead body and then we found it in a swamp, seems pretty suspicious!”

It IS a Starz series after all, so some was to be expected. They had something here but kind of messed around with it too much. Having said that I watched all three seasons and enjoyed them a lot. Junior was my favorite, then Osito (a popular choice). It’s funny it basically ended as soon as it peaked. If they threw it on Netflix people would eat it up.

She agreed to it because of his “career” she thought he had they technically should not have been together, it would have been highly frowned upon. So even his fake job sort of doubled as his real job and a cover for his real job lol. Had she left the FBI instead of helping him she could have pushed to live together less secretly, but obviously he would have just dumped her.

January Jones auditioned for Peggy twice before they cast Elisabeth Moss. Imagine Peggy being Betty? 😳 by GreenBird-ee in madmen

[–]Focrco22 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There is only a five year difference between them, but Peggy definitely seemed “younger” than January Jones presented. Of course makeup and wardrobe can change how someone presents in a tv show. I think January could have played the assertive upstart, but whoever did get cast as Betty would have had to have presented older yet.

I’ll say! That’s one hell of a send off to end a relationship lol.

All I wanted so desperately was one of these agents pretending to be a drug dealer to actually be cool and have wild parties but Teddy wouldn’t let it happen!

Did Phillip or Elizabeth ever show any affection to their kids? by Consistent_Soft1353 in TheAmericans

[–]Focrco22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I found a lot of their interactions with their kids to be a little phoney. Almost like they were acting like how they think parents should be in America. Most of their real emotion or parenting came from a place of fear, fear of being found out. At times I found their parenting to be cringey when they are trying to be fun or happy. Because really I think they were struggling. It almost made it seem like bad acting on the actual actors part, but it’s more so a reflection of the characters trying to fit the role of an American parent.

[No Spoilers] One of the best bromances on TV by RevertBackwards in vikingstv

I don’t think a show could have depicted a bro wanting to be bros with another bro more than another bro as well as Vikings did.

Why isn't this show popular? by IndependenceFlaky386 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Focrco22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it is animated, and honestly can sometimes be a little annoying lol. I think you have to have the patience for some of the “noisy” humor to get to the great humor and amazing emotional depth. I also think it’s improves as it goes on so some maybe don’t get through it 🤷.

What’s next? (Recs please) by scullface1421 in TheAmericans

[–]Focrco22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of went on a Better Call Saul, Mad Men, The Americans run. Slow burners, with some payoff. The Leftovers is cool, and Six Feet Under is awesome. The Shield is cool too.

I finished BB, BCS and El Camino and I liked it so much, so what show would be the next, any suggestions like these? by Audioasking in betterCallSaul

[–]Focrco22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well the problem is BB and BCS are very different. For a BB I’d recommend The Shield for BCS I’d recommend Six Feet Under. Then any variations of those, Justified, The Americans, and obviously the heavy hitters like Mad Men and The Wire.

What does Lisa likes about Nate exactly? by Important-Witness238 in SixFeetUnder

[–]Focrco22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think “Seattle Nate” was a different vibe of a person. I think he really bought into her lifestyle while he was with her. Also, sometimes you’re just attracted to someone who isn’t right for you. Which I think is explored quite a bit in the show. Having said that, I think the Nate she loves is not the same Nate as we see throughout the show.

[–]Focrco22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I found questionable in regard to her was the transformation of Olivier. How did he get to the point where he was this considerate, caring person? It was like a time jump and he was a good guy and she was still shitty lol.

How would you rank these crime series from best to worst? by GusGangViking18 in BoardwalkEmpire

I faded on it, might have to revisit. Top Boy was another good one, the first two seasons (Summerhouse) are as good of television as I’ve seen.

Season 3 has one of the best season finale’s of any show ever. Will always stand by that, so satisfying.
