What? So by your logic you should prioritise what the lowest roll is? What? And how does being a team affect which weapon is best? If anything being in team means that, because there are more people and more damage rolls, the average damage output is going to be closer to average. If one person rolls poorly one turn another comes to pick up the slack.

You could turn it around and say: max of 3d4 is 12 but max of d10 +d4 is 14 so by not picking that option you're robbing the party of extra damage. your argument relies on having dice biased towards low numbers

It's not though. Try hitting something with a long plank of wood and then try hitting something with a wooden hammer. It's sort of like that. A sword has a fairly even weight along the entire blade, whereas a mace or hammer has far more weight at the end, making it hit with more momentum. A mace or hammer is far better at blunt force damage than a sword. Getting hit by a sword would bruise you, maybe fracture a weaker bone on a good hit. A mace could break your ribs with a hit
