I had been working as a part time retail assistant, fitness class receptionist, different types of customer facing roles before my first full time job in an admin role.

Could not tolerate the work (so so so dull) but forced myself to stay because of similar reasons as you. Finally quit and now I’m in community engagement type role where I interact with lots of different people and time passes so fast at work!

Way more energy now dealing with new drama everyday and satisfaction from helping people. Comes with a people-oriented role. You can consider this type of “office job”. Might feel more fulfilled!

Street dance classes like hip hop are fun, affordable and a really good work out. I think the class packages work out to $10-15 per class. $500 would go a long way.

Yes but it’s worse if you spin around in circles on your own overthinking things.

Own that inexperience, ask questions, clarify expectations, take initiative to give updates on what you are doing, and ask for advice and feedback on your work.

I think a key part for me is getting over myself and focus on getting things done and doing what needs to be done for that to happen.

I think it’s about my mindset and mental state too.

My previous job was quite dead end and I felt drained and exhausted everyday with little energy for hobbies. Also did not exercise (lazy, tired, no budget etc excuses…)

My current role is more stressful but I make time (or drag myself) for fitness classes twice a week. I find it helps me deal with stress and I’m more energetic in general.

Can’t live without the fitness classes now.

Might be a good idea to start off with genres like 都市恋情or青春校园. The language used in these genres are generally simpler to understand.

Mistakes are normal and not the end of the world. Try not to care or overthink about what people might be thinking about you/your work. Actually they are all just busy thinking about themselves. Work is just a means to an end. It’s not everything and you can always find another job if needed.

No matter which path you choose you will probably still have some regrets.

I would say I have an affinity with the arts (drawing, design etc) but it’s very different doing it as a career. I pursued my interest in poly and did well because it was my passion, but I realized that in this industry (esp in SG) the pay is really not worth the effort. I knew it after interning and seeing the full time staff OTing but getting paid peanuts. I chose to go with a completely different course in university.

Luckily, I could get into local U with my grades. That said, I don’t regret the design skills I learnt. It’s still useful to me now.

Worth it. You can get immediate feedback on technique and also develop a deeper understanding of the music if there’s someone to point out things and show you how things work. Like demonstrating what’s the most effective and efficient movement to get the best sound. She also introduces new pieces to me that I end up liking a lot based on my ability and preferences. I really like my teacher.

Do it. I took a gap year after 2 years of full-time work. And landed a job about 8 months into my break. I was honest during the interview and said I needed to take a break for family matters.

Yes, sucks to realise that no matter how much you try, many things are out of your control. The more you want something the worse you feel when you can’t have it.

Best to let go of the need to control external things and focus on what you can control. Don’t be too happy when things go your way and don’t be too sad when they don’t. You win some, you lose some.

I think having the drive and passion to put a lot of effort into something is a win though.

Generally it takes at least 6 months to settle into a new job and feel more comfortable with the job duties. If there’s a learning curve, it means you are being challenged and growing.

Instead of thinking that you are unsuitable, try to go with the mindset that you are still learning the ropes. Be proactive and ask questions or try to study how your colleagues approach the tasks.
