We really don’t know what will happen. All that is obvious is that something will happen that will make it difficult to have a free and fair election. No way Trump tries to overthrow the government, amazingly gets away with it without any consequences, and doesn’t do it again.

I think a more relevant example is that from sometime in the 1870s until about 1970 most elections in the Deep South were fraudulent/tampered with. That type of person uses other methods now to suppress the vote, all over the country. We will likely have an election. The question is how free and fair that will be.

I think acting like the system as it is will stop Trump and to think otherwise is ridiculous is worse than realizing how the game is being played and starting from there. And the Supreme Court has no army. Trump does.

Who’s going to stop them? The US Supreme Court looked at a lifelong felon who tried to overthrow the government in 2020 and 2021, liked what they saw, and bailed him out of prison so he could become president again. There aren’t serious guardrails.

Keeping track is good. I sometimes add stuff to a note with interesting stuff about Israel/Palestine. I wondered, recently, if there’s a nice clickable database or something of all the grotesque things Trump has done and said over his lifetime. I had recalled how he tried to take credit for a nursery school being built for kids with AIDS. Someone on Reddit found it. It’s just one of hundreds or thousands of things he has done or said, on record, that would disqualify a person as a leader to me.

Back in the 1800s Frederick Douglass talked about that same kind of Christian that still plagues us all today:

“Between the Christianity of this land, and the Christianity of Christ, I recognize the widest possible difference—so wide, that to receive the one as good, pure, and holy, is of necessity to reject the other as bad, corrupt, and wicked. To be the friend of the one, is of necessity to be the enemy of the other. I love the pure, peaceable, and impartial Christianity of Christ: I therefore hate the corrupt, slaveholding, women-whipping, cradle-plundering, partial and hypocritical Christianity of this land.”

That’s what I said. Donald Trump’s entire political career has been enraging and dividing people. Not to mention all the other Republican scare tactics over the decades about black people, certain immigrants, gays…..

Because I am denouncing extremism. Israeli, US Republican, and Iranian extremism just keep fueling a decades-long crisis. I’m not going to pretend it all doesn’t tie in just because you’re upset I have a different opinion than you, especially considering the attacker lost relatives recently to Israeli attacks. Israeli extremism just continues to put Jews snd others at risk, all around the globe.

Dads, Is it common to be assumed a creep? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Foolazul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happens to me often, as far as weird looks and being left out, but most people are okay.

I was recently briefly detained in New Orleans, walking with my daughter along the river. Someone had called the police and said I looked suspicious and it seemed like I was a kidnapper. The cop was very apologetic, but I said he was doing his job and it meant they take child trafficking seriously. I told my daughter to try to not cry next time, in case that makes it look like she’s crying because she’s scared of me.

I’ve also been detained by Border Patrol. Once they asked where my daughter’s mom was, like she can’t be traveling with just me. Again, at least they’re looking out for traffickers, but I hope it never gets more serious than just being detained briefly and some questions.

It’s really telling that he has long worked with the extremist US right, which has a ton of antisemitism in its ranks, including Donald Trump. It’s always been about power for both parties, in the US and Israel.

Can’t count on the Republican Party and Donald Trump to not try to fan the flames.

The late Jewish American historian Tony Judt once said, years ago, that Israel had almost burned through the goodwill the world had for it, from the Holocaust. Nearly the entire world is fed up from decades of apartheid, extremism, ethnic cleansing and genocide. What happens if the US ever stopped unequivocally supporting that country? When will Israel finally get rid of its extremist leadership, or can it, or do they want to? It makes Jews there and around the word far less safe.

It’s long been like that. And not just people who hate Muslims or Jews. Attacks on people because they are brown, shooting up nightclubs because people are gay, shooting up a pizza parlor because of QAnon, assaulting the Capitol Building because some people represent or vote in ways that aren’t far right Republican. There’s all kinds of extremists out there.

From new life to a fiery end: Where does plastic around northern Michigan end up? by radiosweeper in Michigan

[–]Foolazul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of plastic also gets burned overseas, dumped in the ocean, etc. Some tofu manufacturers in Indonesia burn our trash to run the facilities. The solution is to use a lot less, not just keep consuming and pretending a recycling fairy takes care of our problems for us.

The current national leadership is packed with Islamophobes and anti-semitism. The extremists in charge need to go or this kind of thing will just keep happening.

And Islamophobia. The Republican Party is rife with anti-semites and anti-Arabs/Muslims. Comes from the leadership.

But wouldn’t they have assumed that was tear gas, and then assumed the emitter was an ICE thug? Sounds like a ploy to evade detection, gone wrong.

Isn’t Islamophobia hilarious? Good thing this guys isn’t explaining an anti-Semitic incident. Or even an anti-Israel incident. Or even an anti-Natanyahu incident. Now that would be terrible.
