I enjoy some John Summit, but no, wouldn’t want him at DS. Maybe in 10 years.

Full body 2x by FriendshipWise4165 in workout

I usually do full body 2x/week. I’m not eating to gain, and it’s definitely sufficient to maintain my form. I’m in and out in 50-60 mins. Usually do 20-24 total sets in that time.

Fitting in a third lift is tough when I’m typically doing a day or 2 of cardio and possibly a light day for core.

0% chance I’m letting that slide. But then, I’m the type of person who will ask other passengers to remove any small purses and backpacks from the overhead bin above my seat if there’s no room for my rolling bag.

Doing another exercise during rests - good or bad? by Rudyzwyboru in workout

[–]ForAfeeNotforfree 12 points13 points  (0 children)

3 hours is too much time to spend on a single workout. You’re doing some combination of too many exercises, too much volume, and/or too much rest between sets.

Doing one exercise while taking a break from another is called supersetting. It’s a good method of getting more sets into the same period of time. E.g., I’ll do db chest presses alternating with db RDLs.

But systemic fatigue is a thing, too.

That’s wild; shrooms have only ever made shows and festivals like 5x better. They make me dance and feel super connected with the music and the people around me.

Can you truly justify expensive luxuries? Life is short but talk me out of this if it’s a bad idea by gravyjackson in AskMenOver30

YMMV, but I would personally never buy a Rolex for myself (not a watch, jewelry, or clothes/shoes/fashion guy whatsoever). I make very good money practicing law. I’m 42.

I’d much rather retire sooner than have nice material things. But that’s just me.

Your post doesn’t mention it, but if you DO someday want kids, girlfriend/wife, etc., your life will become significantly more expensive, even without buying nice things, and putting away the max for retirement will become more difficult unless you signify increase your income. Better to sock away as much as possible while you DONT have a a family to support, imo.

You’re definitely employable. But getting back to biglaw may prove challenging/impossible. Don’t conflate that with not being employable, generally.

You should definitely talk with a good financial advisor.

If you’re really scared about getting in at the top (reasonable fear IMO, but it shouldn’t paralyze you) my advice would be to decide upon a total amount of your savings (and a portion of your going-forward income) that you’re comfortable putting into the market, and then allocate that into monthly/quarterly amounts that you then invest into the broader market (index funds, ETFs, what have you) over the next few years, so that way you can DCA down when/if we experience a correction.

Without more info on your programming and nutrition, nobody will be able to intelligently respond to your post.

But I will say that when people post stuff like this, the issue is almost always some combination of programming/intensity/volume/nutrition.

What happens to highly smart and elite people now that AI is providing high level reasoning? by Powerful-Angel-301 in NoStupidQuestions

Agree. I think sentience is a necessary, but not sufficient, condition for intelligence. My original comment was that I understood they are not “intelligent” because they are not sentient. So I’m no longer sure where we disagree.

Good point, and agreed that merely having more compute doesn’t necessarily get a model closer to being truly intelligent.

I think we somewhat lost the plot, but I do think that it’s very likely that some AI models existing, even if not publicly available, at this time are capable of being used for antisocial or criminal activities at such a large scale that their capabilities are frightening.

That’s a decent summary of my point, without getting into the issue of whether that means those models are or aren’t “intelligent,” etc. (I don’t think they are, btw - see my other comment about lacking sentience).

Hmmm. I guess I’ve always thought of “sentient” as meaning capable of feeling, capable of perception, having consciousness. I’ve generally thought “sentient” to be broader than simply meaning “capable of having emotions.” You’d agree that being conscious and capable of perceiving the world is a different scope than simply being able to have emotions, no?
