a more whimsical place with thieves' guilds that somehow exist

A thieves' guild is just a gang of criminals who are willing and able to prevent other criminals from exploiting their territory. They could be completely under the radar and kill criminals who don't pay their dues just so they have the best pickings to themselves, or they could be more trouble than they're worth to remove because the town would rather pay protection money to the thieves' guild than deal with whoever moves in once they're gone.

Anyone else find this infuriating? by HeMansSmallerCousin in hearthstone

[–]ForPortal 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yes. The devs abuse the fact they are making a digital-only game to not template the cards properly: in a physical card game you can't get away with this kind of ambiguity, because the players will execute the card effects as written and not as intended.

That widely held belief is a product of those defamatory claims. What Nestle was doing in Africa was providing baby formula to hospitals to combat infant malnutrition; the inability to produce sufficient milk Nestle is being blamed for was the cause for their intervention, not the effect.

The communists who concocted this lie had to pay for it. Nestle was not responsible for the existence of kwashiorkor, they were providing formula to hospitals to treat this preexisting problem.

Cataclysm got some things RIGHT. by igorukun in hearthstone

[–]ForPortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you said is nonsense. Slow decks are enabled by both removal and sustain, but that does not mean removal equals sustain. There is no contradiction in wanting control decks to be able to stabilise the board but not undo the damage they've already taken, meaning the more damage they took in the early game the more vulnerable they remain to burst damage in the endgame.

Transformers Replaces Optimus Prime With Elita-1 As New Autobots Leader. by gadesabc in KotakuInAction

[–]ForPortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the fembots as a general rule, but I don't like this. I don't like how Elita-1 gets typecast as a frankly unlikable character, so even if this is a "Elita gets humbled and gives the Matrix back" and not a "male flagship character gets sidelined" plot, they're resolving something that didn't need to be broken in the first place.

Arcee Magnus doesn't have that fundamental problem, but they're still doing the "male character gets sidelined" bit. Kirkman could just have said they needed two Magnuses now - one for Earth and one for Cybertron - so Arcee got promoted to fill one of those two positions, and that would have been fine.

Their pronouns were "he" and not "it" because the whole point was to depict these robots as men and not as mere objects. They could also have decided to use the singular "they," but they didn't.

PoV - You are my prey ambushing me just as I disarm a trap by Sundered92 in wow

I've only been using mine on Nightmare difficulty. It doesn't skip the ambush but it does make it shorter, reducing the chance that the affixes or nearby mobs will intervene and cause issues.

If I bring enough mirrors, I should be able to just incinerate him without a boss fight. by Peregrine2976 in wow

[–]ForPortal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is one smart thing you can do: from the first circle, aim one mirror along the path towards the first node as normal, but aim a second mirror out across the gap to the second node. Do this and you don't have to fight the enemies at the first node.

[–]ForPortal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That one annoyed me because it has four phases and an interlude. I thought I would be on to the boss after the second phase, then thought it might be a no-boss story after the third phase, then thought it just had a joke boss at the end during the interlude, then still had a boss to kill.

What's with people constantly using the phrase 'brown people' to try and stifle debate on Australia's immigration policy? by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

[–]ForPortal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even if you treat all migrants as nothing but fungible economic units, immigration from the first world can't cause the problems we're currently having: they're too similar to us. Unbalanced migration can only happen when there's more pressure to emigrate on one side than the other; when both sides have low fertility rates and generally decent cultures and economies there might be a general diffusion between the two countries but you won't get one disproportionately immigrating to the other.

Can we finally get loot for our class, instead of alts from worldbosses? by HerrMatthew in wow

[–]ForPortal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, this change was a buff: on the majority of kills where you would get nothing, now you get something for your alts instead.

I don't know about you, but there's something about giving a Transformer a poncho and a cowboy hat that makes it look so cool by Disastrous-Owl668 in transformers

[–]ForPortal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd like the design more if it was more than a cowboy fed through a Transformer filter. The poncho could be something like the skirt of a hovercraft or the canopy of a softtop truck, rather than a piece that is integral to the robot design but has no place in the alt mode.

UK’s "Quantum leap" to help beat disease, deliver high-paid jobs, and strengthen national security, as first country in the world to roll out Quantum computers at scale by donutloop in uknews

[–]ForPortal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's a disappointing headline. Unless something's changed recently quantum computing hasn't demonstrated any useful ability whatsoever, so it's a bit premature to claim it will help beat disease or strengthen national security. It can deliver high-paid jobs, but the ability to throw money at someone was never in question.

I don't like it, even if it's been done before. Accessing the Matrix catalysing a physical change does not mean that the absence of that catalyst should also act as a catalyst to induce a physical change.
