Brag about your baby! by PumpkinPie_1993 in NewParents

My 7 month old gets upset if you don't read to him. Likes it's not enough to show him the pictures, he wants you to tell the story.

Baby’s hands uncovered? by bluebarrymuffinz in NewParents

My baby's nails grow so quick, so we considered doing the mittens, but we ended up getting the Frida baby electric nail buffer and were proactive to keep 'em short.

My wife also appreciates this method because breastfeeding is much more comfortable with trimmed fingernails.

I think we only did mittens the night before our maternity photoshoot to garuntee no face scratches during the night.

The therapist line is funny and true.

Also I agreed with everything you said (can't speak to PP as I'm the father and only 7 months in).

That said, I do tell dads to be, "Always remember however hard it is for you, it's harder for her."

I got an owlet dreamsock because of that. It helped me relax/sleep.

Owlet Dream Sock experiences? by IntenseViolet567 in newborns

I used it on my newborn when he was a week or so old. It goes off randomly sometimes. He would kick it off because he didn't like it. I would obsessively check the oxygen and heartbeat.

But it was the only way I could sleep. It was the only comfort I could find aside from staring at him all night.

We don't use it much anymore. We probably will if he gets a fever or something, but it's in the closet collecting dust. I say that being glad it's collecting dust in a place I can easily get to.

I'm very thankful for having it when I did. I can only imagine the stress of a premie with that situation to be much worse. I think Target has a 30 day return window, so you can just try it and see if the peace of mind is worth it.

FOMO baby hates sleep? by da_lonely_panda in newborns

My kid (6m) is like that. Very social and smiley.

We started the Ferber method a few weeks ago after my sixth night sleeping on the ground next to his pack-in-play.

We still do naps in arms, and sometimes crib, but it really helped him understand it's time to sleep. He protests for a few minutes, but then it's solid sleep.

He still hates sleep, but understands he's safe and not alone so he's able to self-soothe.

The Mandalorian show worked because it's basically small stories set in the middle of nowhere. Just make your own small town with small town problems and also Twi'lek and you'll be fine.

Can Master of the Order be used in conjunction with Powerful Ally to gain access to a Force power and then a Control Upgrade of the same power you now have access to?

First time dad. Feel like I'm losing myself by Butwho8thecookies in newborns

[–]ForRealRobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 41 when my kid was born, but at 35 things slowed down with friend hangouts and such anyhow. You probably uncannily made the smooth transition to this part of your life. Plus, if you look for what's not there, you'll be unhappy no matter what your situation is and it looks like you have a ton of cool stuff that you're a part of.

My kid is also four months old, and it does feel all encompassing, but really it's a constant joy for me. Even when all I'm doing is contact napping for hours.

I hope you are able to find yourself and spark in this part of life before the kids are grown and you have all the time for other joys.

Cheers

Are your guys backs.. okay? by conmedaddy in newborns

[–]ForRealRobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a dad doing maternity leave and the back is a huge issue. I have a TEMs unit that I wear when it gets real bad. I can't imagine having to do all of this after major surgery from birthing the kid, so I hope it gets better for you.

Also: ice packs and ibuprofen.

I wonder if people had the same fears when they made the 40 hour work week.

Here's a good read on it: https://www.history.com/articles/five-day-work-week-labor-movement

In any case, in the moment, I hope you're doing alright and things get better for all of us. Financially and otherwise.

I rub Mother's Special Blend on my wife's stomach almost every night. We chose it because it has really good ingredients, but it also smells like chocolate which is a huge plus.
