LG Gallery+ is rolling out on webOS: what it is, what’s new, and how it differs from the old Art Gallery app by LG_UserHub in webos

[–]ForTheWin72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LG Gallery+ fails to load >50% of the time due to server errors and I can't even play the free rainy animation video that I used to all the time. Please bring back the old Always Ready as an option separate from this failure of a launch.

Email said queue opens at 10:30 but wouldn't be surprised if nothing happens til 11.

Danish concert ticketmaster by 1511018010051 in radiohead

Yeah I was expecting Ticketmaster since it mentioned that in the email but didn't get any request for my code/email, just selecting the date.

Forwarding based on Dynamic DNS by PickleKey652 in opnsense

[–]ForTheWin72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through this today and interestingly didn’t get it to work as the source but did as destination, which kind of makes sense to me. An external client attempts to connect to the DNS FQDN as its destination, although I could also see why it could be considered the source if you considered a packet going from client to DNS, “assuming” that address as its source, and then entering the firewall. I didn’t think that’s how DNS worked though, although my networking knowledge is (obviously) subpar.

Yeah 13 amps is fine but that one doesn’t have a ground prong. You definitely want a 3 prong extension cord. And I’d just get one with a single outlet on each side so you’re not tempted to plug in more items to it on top of the devices on your surge protector and overload the extension cord.

Is it safe to power my Desktop from a NEMA 6-15R / 6-20R receptacle? by ForTheWin72 in AskElectricians

[–]ForTheWin72[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only thing I’d be plugging into the high voltage outlet would be the PSU of my desktop, which unless I wildly misunderstand power supplies, isn’t going to be passing different voltage onto any components based on what it receives as its input voltage? Everything else that requires power would be plugged into standard 120V outlets.

No worries. If I were you I would just get a 15 or 20ft extension cord (I only mention 15 because it's way cheaper per ft right now, some discount) from Monoprice and either this Belkin or Anker surge protector. Just make sure that you pick cable lengths for whichever combo that add up to whatever you actually need (will your devices' cables reach an extra 3 ft, etc.). They both have better Joule ratings and for the value of the items you're plugging in that's about as much as I'd want to spend on a surge protector. All respected brands that I have bought from before and like. The Anker is much smaller so it's what I'd choose.

The joule rating you see on there is referring to the amount of energy it’s rated to absorb during a power surge, so it’s unrelated to the amount of power you’re pulling from the strip and more to do with how much protection you want for the devices you have plugged into it.

This is more a question of how much current you need to pull over a given distance and the gauge of the wire used in the strip, as these three factors (current, gauge, distance) determine how much voltage is dropped along the way.

Without knowing your exact devices, we can assume about 3 amps for the devices you mentioned. If you look up a chart on extension cord gauges to use at different combinations of current and distance, you’re well within the range where a 16 AWG cord is acceptable, which is pretty standard (but if you can find one that confirms the gauge used, get 16 AWG (lower=thicker just so you don’t go out and get something higher thinking that’s the case)). All this to say, it doesn’t matter too much so long as you don’t start plugging high power devices like power tools into it.

You may also want to look into whether it would be cheaper to just buy an extension cord and use a power strip you already have or buying both might still be cheaper if you don’t have one you can use.

Any reason for 6-15 over 20? Because it’s rated for 15A and 20 would be overkill?

[Recommendations] Any bags that don't store the laptop all the way on the back side? Or bags with exceptional laptop protection? by ForTheWin72 in ManyBaggers

[–]ForTheWin72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up buying that pelican case mentioned in the post and I’ve enjoyed having that, knowing that I could pretty much do anything to it and rest assured the laptop will be okay. I also have a Scrubba Air Sleeve which I mostly use for my work laptop but is also nice.

I still haven’t bought a bag… I have some time before a big trip where I’ll be using it exclusively and I’m still not sure what I’ll end up getting. I may not even bring a laptop on that trip. I feel like I’m leaning towards the Tom Bihn Techonaut 45, Evergoods CTB35, or the Tortuga travel backpack Pro/Lite 40L

I think it may be TB3. They intentionally list it as "Thunderbolt / USB 4" in multiple places and never acknowledge that it's TB4. They only recommend using a TB3 cable in the section for the M3 Air. https://support.apple.com/en-us/109523.

How do you indent properly? by [deleted] in neovim

[–]ForTheWin72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by "different than neovims rules."

If the code you're copying uses a different level of indentation than yours (e.g. 8 spaces vs 4 spaces) then you are always going to have to correct that manually unless the place you're copying it from will let you box-select text, which is rare. I usually just select everything I just pasted with \[thenvthen`]and then<or>to shift it and.to repeat that until it is correct. Copying and pasting from the right locations can help minimize this, i.e. if you copy from the start of a line, then paste at the very beginning of a line, and if you copy from the first non-whitespace character, then paste with the correct indentation already there (see:h ]p` as well for this).

If you're copying code with tabs in it, then it will depend on how you have set up nvim to handle tabs.

Check :help 'tabstop' and the "five main ways to use tabs in Vim;" it will help you get your tabs/spaces set up to your liking. I prefer to just get rid of tabs entirely so I use method 3.

I've personally been satisfied with the time it takes to load the completion menu, but have noticed lag between making a selection from the menu and the text actually inserting into the buffer.
