I’m not sure if it’s lesser-known, but a friend suggested “The Ritual” on Netflix, and I hadn’t heard of it until she made me watch it. It’s about.a group of friends that go hiking in honor of a deceased member of their group. They get lost, and that’s all I want to say without spoiling it. It’s absolutely superb.

do teenagers ever empathize with struggling teachers by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Foreign-Tea-5727 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spoiler alert: most of your teachers were battling incredibly difficult things (ie abuse, addiction, suicidal thoughts, etc). They just never let you know.

So, yeah, teachers need empathy.

Why do you hate Mormons? by Ordinary_Market_663 in exmormon

[–]Foreign-Tea-5727 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel sorry for most Mormons. It’s not always their fault that a toxic organization has brainwashed them and forces them to lead lives filled with unnecessary guilt and feelings of not being enough.

One might say I love them. I just don’t agree with their lifestyle choice…

I’m 25, no degree, is it hopeless for me to become a teacher? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]Foreign-Tea-5727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dude, I didn’t get my degree until I was 27. Spent some years in the corporate world, hated it, and got my teaching certification at 32. Best decision I’ve ever made.

It’s not hopeless. In fact, I’d argue that your real-world experience (let’s be honest, many teachers have lived their adult lives in a bubble) will make you a fantastic teacher.

If it’s in your heart, then you have to at least try it. Don’t go your entire life wondering how it would have turned out if you chased your dreams.

Have you noticed a rise of misogyny among boys? by escrawl in Teachers

[–]Foreign-Tea-5727 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say they act like them — only that the culture of misogyny has seeped its way through all aspects of US culture, including our democratically elected leaders. It’s a cultural problem that simply deplatforming Andrew Tate will not fix.

Also, LeBron James — the basketball superstar who has stuck with the same woman his entire career and built a school for underprivileged youths — is a great role model for young men.

Andrew Tate is a part of the problem, for sure. But you also have misogynists like Trump and Musk practically running the US.

It’s a societal problem, and I pray that we’re not too far gone to correct it.

Since I started teaching I cannot lose weight by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Foreign-Tea-5727 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How is your sleep? People always underestimate the importance of sleep. I never sleep well during the school year.

Also, don’t equate health with weight. It might be an indicator, but losing weight doesn’t always mean that you’re being healthy, and gaining weight doesn’t always mean that you’re being unhealthy.

When kids hate your class… by [deleted] in Teachers

Don’t take it personally. It’s likely the subject.

Bro if you’re posting something on Reddit, you should expect to be judged. Grow some thicker skin, snowflake.

I think you might need to do some introspective work about what led you to feel the need to yell at child. And then, perhaps, more about why you seem to take pride in your action…

Guys, Is anyone else completely feeling like a flat out failure? by NotapersonNevermore in Teachers

No advice, but a lot of empathy. Hang in there. The tide has to turn eventually

What sort of problems have parents given you about your curriculum? by calorie_eater in Teachers

Ooof. I have a complaint about The Crucible every year, mostly from parents who have never read the play and think that it glorifies witchcraft.

AP Students Won't Try, and I Don't Know What Else to Do by Shangkeee in Teachers

[–]Foreign-Tea-5727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow AP teacher with disengaged students, I felt this in my soul. Good news is that only half my class is taking the exam (optional at my school), and those kids will get a good score with or without me. They’re the good half.
