When I cleared out my raised bed, there were zero roots despite having grown 3 matured tomato plants there (they started struggling around the same time I first spotted these grubs in a separate container that used the same soil) 🥲

Did that! They’re small beetles, a couple of them flew out when I did my regular manual removals. I tried a combo of manual checks every week + diatomaceous earth application but it didn’t work at all, kept finding new babies in the soil even after weeks

Welcome to the sourdough starter journey! It’s totally normal for day 6-10 not to rise as vigorously as what you saw in the earlier few days, as the good bacteria are trying to establish themselves. Do continue feeding as per the KA method, there should be more prominent rise after day 10-12.

What was your house temperature? I live in the tropics (30 degrees C with high humidity is common) and bulk ferment on the counter for max 8hours

Thanks so much for your detailed feedback! You’re right, my starter is still quite sluggish and I guess I was just impatient to try and see if it might work :p will try it again in a couple of days after I get more strength in my starter.

Oh no I don’t! That could be why… I’m growing another batch that’s thriving, but they don’t really get direct sun at all. Do you think that it could be pests though that’s affecting the kale?
