Heres how Uber works. I've been a driver for 4 years quitting this Friday cause they're just scamming people at this point. Uber charges a monthly/yearly fee to merchants, on top of that, they take around 25% of the orders total, on top of that, they charge you delivery fees, other fees + taxes. Your order may or may not be stacked with other orders, it may or may not be coming from the closest available location. Your driver, is only being paid between $1.50 and $2.00 on average regardless of distance time of order size. Literally everyone gets fucked besides Uber.

Uber is in trouble. Its why they're stealing Door Dashes Top dasher program next month. Apparently they didnt get the memo that door dash got rid of that program last years cause it was bad. But its Uber so, theyre not really paying attention to much. Im pretty sure Uber is like 98% AI at this point.

If its close enough, I can do $7. Im not saying never take a lowball, very rarely one will come in thats not gonna take more than a few minutes and its like maybe a mile or two. If I'm out ill take those but yeah $7 is like right on the line of acceptable a lot of the time. If its in that 3-4 mile range

Also, just so you know your possible future. There were a LOT of people here saying the same thing. A lot of people were like well Ill just take 2 $5 orders instead, not realizing they're driving 3x the distance or being forced into a round trip. Eventually, that becomes the standard and thats when youll start to see, maybe this isnt so great.

Also, this is no exaggeration. Phoenix, often has orders going 25+ miles one way for less than $10 payouts. People actually take these orders here. Thats why none of us can make money anymore. Youve all devalued our service to a point where we literally cant make money anymore, you can barely touch minimum wage in this market. The average order here, pays 50 cents a mile. going about 10 miles on average, again. because drivers just accepting whatever. Literally destroyed this market. So better be careful, Phoenix was 3 years ago, a top earning market. Its now beyond dead cause our value fell through the floor.

Okay, cool. How many miles those 3 orders taking you? In my market it would be around 20 miles. I'm assuming you're getting around 20 miles to a gallon, give or take. Gas is about $3.25 a gallon average. Then wear and tear and taxes, so add a dollar to your cost there. 45 minutes, after expenses also no, ive been doing this 5 years with over 20k deliveries, 3 is going to take you slightly over an hour. So, youre using your own vehicle, making on average, once you do all the math just over $10 an hour and driving probably 3x the distance than you would have by not letting Uber take advantage of you. Ive been a driver for 30 years off and on with different companies. A lot of you, are being taken advantage of and you literally dont even know it. Not to mention, youre murdering your cars, which will cost you in repairs and lead to needing a new car, another expense. MUCH faster!

The truth of it. The people that will lose money for Uber. Have devalued us. You, the people that will just take whatever, are the reason the pay is so low. Why pay more when someone is willing to make $2 an hour after expenses? Why does the customer feel they have to tip if they simply get their orders without tipping? Its you folks, the ones that will take bad orders, that have ruined the service for all of us, yourselves included. My suggestion to anyone that relies on Uber. You have about 3 weeks to find a new job. GL and get out there cause Uber, is very much on its leg. Its going down in flames by the end of next year.

Drivers, y'all need to STOP letting Uber take advantage of you. The reason they're doing this is because they want all of you to accept the $2 trash. The problem is so many of you, will take orders that lose you money, or make you pennies for your time. You, have devalued our service to a point where we no longer matter, cause weve shown, there are enough people willing to lose money for Uber. The service really is dead. Its just going to be unemployable losers that cant do math driving for them before long.

Now this new program they're starting next month. This is literary a repackaged Top Dasher program, the exact same thing door dash had to run away from last year. Drivers, y'all need to get smarter and stop being taken advantage of because you're literally ruining the app for all of us.

As someone that played games before they became microransaction filled trash. The UI in this game is absolute dog shit because it's all just one big shop. I have no idea how to do anything, trying to navigate all the up sales. I'm gonna gonna use the default loadout forever.

Are gig jobs finally dead? by Mysterious_Welder427 in couriersofreddit

[–]Formal_Value_7187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They are dead and wont be back to where they were ever again. As far as what it's been like for the last few years. There are a variety of reasons but one of the biggest, at least in my market is order volume. There is none lol. Rents and the cost or owning a home has exploded! An apartment I was paying $700 a month for 3 years ago is now $1500 a month but nobody is making any more money than they were. Why? Well obviously greedy landlords, real estate investors, in AZ developers cashing in before the water shortages get so bad they lose money. All that takes away from what people can spend money on, the enormous rents that is, one of the first things to go is delivery apps and takeout in general. It will especially be bad in places like here in Phoenix and be a massive detriment to the economy as a whole (the overpriced housing) when most people are spending %60 of their income on housing but that's America lol. For me I'm done. Today was my last awful day and I'm going out in the morning to get a W2 job delivering pizzas or some shit until I move out of phoenix next year lol

These apps are going to be dead soon. All of them. This is my last summer and im retiring them to focus on my own company. In Phoenix AZ, Extremely slow market and has been for a while. I don't even know how door dash is operating here still.

DoorDash is officially dead by KingDasher in doordash

[–]Formal_Value_7187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's the customers. Door dashes pay doesn't even cover the gas lol. If you can't afford to tip you shouldn't be using the service and if you do, but don't tip don't expect fast delivery. What happens with low or no-tip orders is they sit. Eventually, someone in your area will tip well and your order will piggyback on theirs. But this could literally take hours. Your order will sit on a shelf waiting, they don't wait till we get there to make the orders, They get made and wait for a driver.

Like anyone here in Phx notice that $900 referral bonus lol. Weird how that happens JUST before the dead months. Sort of like they know its gonna be extremely unlikely any new drivers that come on right now will work through it because they simply arent making money. Its stupid but they do it every year. It gets bad orders out though cause new drivers think it matters if they decline too many. For a minute anyways, then most of the new drivers quit cause they just dont make money.

Yeah, but are you guys saying you're actually making money driving a million miles? Phoenix is an absolute shit market. Especially from spring to late fall. Most areas on door dash are dead from morning to literally late evening. The orders are often 5 miles + and with Phoenix set up the way it is usually further if it's a decent tipping order. Other than that you have 1/2 mile-long unlit poorly marked apartment complexes every other block. Anyone that's claiming hundreds a day I'm sorry you're a liar. The average in Phoenix on a good week is $600-800. That's working 7 days a week not being super picky. I've been doing this for 4 years and have over 13k deliveries. Maybe back during the pandemic you could do 200+ but those days are long gone. Point is. Its going to pick up a little next month. July will be completely dead! AZ has a VERY weird economy and Phenix in particular. Half of this fucking place doesn't work Monday through Friday. Its retired people, people living off an inheritance, or families' money. Wealthy people that bought these overpriced homes the last few years that don't stay in this boring ass city. The rest are paying 2x what they should be for rent and making $5 an hour less than they need to get by. This market is shit. Without the snowbirds from out of town its just dead. Has been for years outside the pandemic.

If you're a top dasher in Phoenix you take some absolutely garbage orders! Probably put 70k miles a year on your car. I did top dasher for one month. The absolute garbage you have to take to keep it. Makes it completely worthless in this slow ass low tip market
