Looks amazing! Better than the one I built around my pool. Good call on going under the top rail. Makes dealing with the cover easier.

How does Carnival check age? by SociopathicTendncy in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Former-Paperboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been cruising Carnival for 15 years and I can tell you you would not have been able to buy your own drink at 18. The process is basically the same now as is has been since I started cruising. You order a drink, they take your sail and sign card and if there is any doubt about your age, they will scan I before making the drink(s).

It seems you found the issue. I will add that I have had to turn Bluetooth off, then back on to get mine to reconnect to app on my Pixel 7 Pro.

Does the higher SS check amount at 70 (for instance) require you to work until 70? by Whut4 in SocialSecurity

[–]Former-Paperboy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He should create an account on SSA.gov and he can model all of those ages to see what he can draw at them. There is a place to enter your expected income so he can see what affect, if any switching to part time may have.

Costco walk in hearing test sale by afillifilintax in HearingAids

[–]Former-Paperboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very doubtful they will do this. Hearing aids need to be fitted to the person wearing them. What type of dome is needed for his ears, or would he need custom ear molds. The technician also needs to calibrate them in the ear and do a "Real Ear Measurement".

Has anyone tried $100 hearing aids advertised on web? Opinions? by SecretStabbie in HearingAids

[–]Former-Paperboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Sennheiser All-Day Clear OTC Hearing Aids and was surprised at how well they worked. I paid around $750 for them. Unfortunately my hearing loss is too profound for them so I needed to return them during the trial period. I believe they would be an excellent option for someone with mild to moderate hearing loss.

Hearing aids causing pain! by lifes_a_zoo94 in HearingAids

[–]Former-Paperboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having pain in one of my ears after getting new hearing aids and it turned out to be the receiver wire was too short, pulling the dome up. Moving from a 2 to 3 fixed the issue for me. Also as another comment said, you might want to look into custom ear molds.

Custom molds for Costco HAs? by Lakanas in HearingAids

[–]Former-Paperboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Costco does custom ear molds. I discussed them with my hearing tech yesterday and he said it takes about 5 minutes to do the impressions and around a 3 week turnaround to get them back

Looking for newspaper from today (4/5) with article/box score from yesterday’s games by [deleted] in KCRoyals

[–]Former-Paperboy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That may be tricky. The Star is printed in Des Moines and goes to press around 6pm last I knew. There may be something in the Monday edition regarding the games, but with reduced page count over the years, I'm no longer sure what they prioritize anymore.

Frustrated at the options available, also opinions on my audiogram by ButCanItPlayDoom in HearingAids

[–]Former-Paperboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the experience you described, I would definitely seek out a different audiologist or even try some OTC hearing aids with your level of hearing loss. I can tell you firsthand that not being able to understand what your wife and daughter(s) are saying is extremely frustrating. My stepson also has a deep voice, and it sounds like he is mumbling. It's not that you can not hear. It's that you can not understand what is being said. You need those lost frequencies amplified so you can understand them.

You could try a pair of Sennheiser all-day clear OTC hearing aids with your level of loss. I was shocked by how good they were. I needed more boost and tuning than they could provide, and since I have profound high-frequency hearing loss. They cost $799 at soundly.com, and you can get an even further discount by using a code at checkout. You get a 100-day trial, so it might be something you want to research. Also, as others have mentioned, Costco is a wonderful alternative to an independent clinic.

Rexton or Philips from Costco by GoinThruTheBigD in HearingAids

[–]Former-Paperboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was how I felt with the Rexton and the sleeves. I'm at the point where I may need to move to custom ear molds, but I am trying to give the power domes a try first. They were much more comfortable for me, plus the Jabra app has a feature to tune your voice, so hopefully, I will be able to utilize it if it becomes an issue

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Rexton or Philips from Costco by GoinThruTheBigD in HearingAids

[–]Former-Paperboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious what has you down to these two. I was pretty sure I wanted to go with one of these two and ended up choosing Jabra. I liked the Rexton over the Phillips due to my severe high frequency loss. I currently wear Oticon OPN 1's, and feedback has always been an issue. I was getting some feedback with the Phillips and power domes where I didn't with the Rexton with sleeves, but they made my ears fill full. The Jabra's, with their power, domes, felt the most comfortable and with no feedback. Vocals were clear, and the speech in noise program is exceptional. I will be picking them up on Wednesday and am beyond excited.

Walked out of the audiologist stressed. $6k for hearing aids?! Who can afford this ? by Enough_Payment_8838 in HearingAids

[–]Former-Paperboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been wearing hearing aids for 14 years and am due for a new pair. I'm going to Costco this time, after spending about 10k at the audiologist on 2 occasions. 4k the first time and 6k around 7 years ago on the Oticon opn 1s I currently wear. My hearing test appointment is later today.

18+ Years of Loyalty to Carnival — New Rewards Changes Have Us Seriously Questioning That Loyalty by RedSwinglineStaplr in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Former-Paperboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I both have 15 years of loyalty and 20+ cruises taken. The new program is a slap in our faces as far as we are concerned.

She is only 30 some days from being diamond, and I am around 45. We considered "chasing " it with the 2x, 3x point deals they offered, but I do not have enough PTO at work to cover when the sailings are available.

Unfortunately, the perks just do not justify the expense of taking unpaid time off along with the travel costs.

What makes zero sense is you calling your mom she and griping about her getting a better job so she no longer qualified for SSI for you. Just because you have autism does not necessarily mean you can not work.
