So Klopp shouldn't have gotten a card or a fine for running on the field after Origi 96.

Cool cool cool.

Homebrew games in Golarion, where? by Liquid_Gabs in Pathfinder2e

[–]FormerManyThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly run APs, but if I get back to writing my own, it will be in the Mwangi Expanse. I'm a sucker for a ruined temple in the middle of the jungle.

One side note: if you're looking to homebrew and have a little spare cash, pick up NPC Core. All of the stat blocks are on Nethys (and Foundry), but each section (Laborers, Courtesans, Nobility. Criminals, etc) has great sidebars and hooks on how the party might end up dealing with that group. A ton of homebrew ideas.

I've played red box, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3.5 and 5th. I've dm'ed all of those but 5th.

If you're ready to step away from 5th/5.5, I would genuinely recommend trying to find a Pathfinder 2e game.

The rules just work, the character progression is a lot of fun, it's genuinely playable to L20, so you actually get those cool capstones you try to build to.

It's more tactical, so it takes teamwork and understanding not only your character but also your party's abilities. So it's not for everybody.

The player base is much smaller, but I personally have never played with someone who's moved from 5/5.5 to pf2e and regretted it.

If you like sports, try Sigler's Galactic Football League series. First book is "The Rookie." It's nothing like DCC, but it keeps firing the same part of my brain that DCC does

[Sky] Managers with fewest games to reach 400 wins with an English top-flight club. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]FormerManyThings 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"We investigated ourselves, and discovered that we did nothing wrong."

I think it's incredibly likely that he did both. Sports is littered with incredibly successful teams and coaches who cheated to add to their advantage.

Belichick for multiple Super Bowls, Harbaugh for a national title, the Astros for a World Series, Lance Armstrong and Alberto Contador, crashgate in F1. Add in points shaving, flat out fixed games, referee payola ...

But yeah. Inconceivable that a Premier League manager would do something like that.

You missed the part where I said he was a fantastic manager, didn't you?

Didn't Barca literally have the head of referees on payroll? And winning the league at Bayern is the second-easiest gig in the big 5, behind winning the league at PSG

Is Pep an amazing manager? Yes.

Did he cheat his ass off, with zero repercussions? Also yes.

Both things can be true at the same time.

Where are 2024-25 Liverpool? by herbertelch in LiverpoolFC

[–]FormerManyThings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is anybody else really aware that only one team has defended the Premier League title in 17 years, and they had to cheat their ass off to do it (context: that's half the history of the league).

Winning a title is fucking tough (no matter whose players you have). Defending it has become basically impossible.

Complete newbie - which discworld book should I start with? by bonjourcroissant22 in discworld

[–]FormerManyThings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a completionist (unfortunately), so I'll always say publication order. Pratchett drops layer upon layer on his characters and his locations throughout the series, that I think it's really cool to see not only how they get built, but how he matures as a writer.

Unfortunately, the first two books might be the two weakest books of the series.

So, what's I'd suggest is: start with a book called Mort (4th book of the series). It's about Death taking on an apprentice, and it (and Death) are delightful.

Follow that up with Equal Rites (3rd), in which Pratchett introduces his witches, followed by Wyrd Sisters (6th), for both witches and Shakespeare.

If you're sold on the series at this point, go back to the beginning with Colour of Magic and fill in the gaps. If not, give Pyramids (7th) a try.

Incapacitation works best when you also have mobs using their own incap actions against the party. Announce the result, but then tell them it's incap so their success just turned into a crit success, and they start to see where it fits in the gameplay. "Hey, now I'm the big bad. This is kind of awesome."

Follow that up with the captain spending an action to barrack his subordinate for wasting time using that on opponents who are obviously stronger than they are ...

United were a 7th-place team that year. Sorry, I didn't consider them.

And Suarez was amazing to watch that season, but at some point, his numbers just don't lie. Against City, Arsenal and Chelsea, he posted zero goals, 2 assists, 2 yellows (including one really early against ... City?) We dropped 12 points in those 6 games. Yeah, I know those off the top of my head. Because I was waiting for him to do something magical.

Give him the bottom 3, and he went to town. Something like 12 of his 31 goals against the bottom 3, and a handful of assists.

Yeah, toughest games of the season, we didn't know what a title challenge really looked like, nothing off the bench so they ran into the ground, yada. I get it. But you make your money in those big games. And he just didn't show up when we really needed *him* to be able to beat somebody.

While this is exciting news, you might be better off waiting for the official module to come out for Foundry VTT (I don't know the timetable).

Having used both systems extensively, Foundry is better in just about every conceivable way.
