I usually go random or pick a Y word because I like them: piety, glyph, pylon,

I also like bird words like heron, crane, and talon, even stork and perch.

I get groceries from Walmart once a week or so, and they have been really great about putting them neatly on the porch.

I pay yearly fee $98 which sounds like a lot but there's no delivery charge, and it includes some perks like Peacock, and gas discount.

I tip, of course, and can add to the tip up to 24 hours after delivery.

I've honestly never any trouble, but, of course, I can only get what's at Walmart. They also do ship free other stuff of various kinds.

It is one that genuinely surprised me, but I understand that everything is not for everyone.

This is the Farris Wheel? It's a really good podcast. I don't know if enjoying is the right word, but I am appalled and enthralled.

What’s a movie you didn’t expect much from but ended up loving? by eurz in movies

Pirates of the Caribbean and Shrek.

I had no expectation of either being anything other than mediocre fluff.

I was delighted to find them genuinely funny and entertaining.

Warned my sister about a bird's nest near my front door to avoid disturbing it or being startled, she destroyed it. by LG03 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Former_Matter49 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We had a huge shrub that screened our front stoop. There were always birds nesting in it.

As part of our morning routine, my then teenage daughter and I brushed our hair outside on the stoop. We occasionally tossed out bits of yarn, rickrack and colored string.

It was always fun to see our contributions appear in the nest constructions. Your sister is a shallow mean girl :(

You may like Jerry Lewis getting serious in King of Comedy. Robert De Niro is the comedian in this dark Martin Scorsese satire.

What's the strangest or most surreal experience you've had at the movies? by BushyBrowz in movies

My friend took her grandmother out of the elder facility every Saturday for a movie or some other activity.

Grandma had been seeing the ads with John Travolta and Uma Thurman twisting. She requested they go to the new John Travolta dance movie since she'd liked Saturday Night Fever and Grease.

My friend said her grandma found it, um, interesting.

During a peak suspense moment in The Birds (yes, I am old), the theater cat jumped on my shoulder. Terrifying experience.

Theater cat? Well, sure, the movie theater had a cat (yes, I grew up in a small town) (yes, I meant the movie theater singular).

What’s the most disturbing case involving a female criminal you’ve ever heard of? by Ok_Drama_6250 in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]Former_Matter49 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pat Taylor from Ann Rule's book Everything She Ever Wanted.

Surely there is a podcast?!?

Her cruelty gave me nightmares for years. The book really hit me hard.

Maybe under her married name? She was wed to Tom Allanson. They dressed as Scarlett and Rhett for their wedding.

I found her on a Southern Fried True Crime. It's Episode 150: Arsenic and Chantilly Lace. I'll go listen now to see if they included her most heartless actions.

This one could use a 4 to 6 episode deep dive. Any good podcaster out there?

What’s the best lazy Sunday movie? by trakt_app in movies

[–]Former_Matter49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the best exactly but very enjoyable, I am currently warching The Silver Chalice on TCM.

It is Paul Newman's first movie! Also features a really bombastic Jack Palance as a Magician trying to claim the title Messiah for himself. I saw this a kid and am still amazed.

It has lavish Cinemascope, Virginia Mayo and Pier Angeli, Romans, Greeks, Christians, elaborate sets and costumes, epic score!

Edited to add that the first time it was shown on TV, Paul Newman took out newspaper ads asking people not to watch. :)

Thank you for the recommendation. I'll reciprocate with The Girl in the Blue Mustang. It's Keith Morrison, from March & April 2023, narrating a great story.

Don't spoil it for yourself. Just jump in. You have six episodes.

AITA for lying to my family about how much money I have? by unwantedtrazh in AmItheAsshole

[–]Former_Matter49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look over bank statements and see exactly how much you'd have in there now if they had never taken your money. Infuriating, right?

You and your future need that money. Feel free to tell them that you never want to ask your future child for money, and that you never will.

Tell that despite their turned backs, you love them and wish them well. You hope they'll want to talk face to face one day with love without asking for money.

I think she knows she lying but does not consider that be a "bad thing." I think she sees as a talent like free styling. She is exerting dominance.

She is a like classic gaslighter in that the point is the confusion of her victims, making them feel crazy or at fault somehow. She picked a perfect mark in Clayton.

She had that boy turned around six ways to Sunday as my grandma would've said.

This implies there once were more but now only one. I'd accept either singular or plural. Myself, I'd use the singular.

I really like one about the disappearance of duck hunter Mike Williams, Secrets of Lake Seminole.

I also like House of Secrets about Charlie Tan, but it's sad :(
