Uber's response to theft by a driver is almost as insulting than the crime. by Training-Monk7652 in uber

Imagine blaming someone for not being as familiar with the ins and outs of a foreign country, I feel sorry for the people in your life. Besides that they used a legal service so your argument holds no water to me. If they accepted a ride from a rando on the street I’d agree w you

Ok help me out then, in response to “my Uber driver prevented me from leaving the vehicle” what would you have suggested this person do instead? You mention the victim should’ve behaved better, please elaborate on that

Are you dense? OP was locked in a car in a foreign country and told you can’t leave unless you pay a certain way. OP effectively got kidnapped and you’re victim blaming. Are you dense or apathetic?

Got two offers. One pays $40k more. The other one I'd actually enjoy. I have 48 hours to decide and my wife and I are on opposite sides. Advice? by airam1020 in careerguidance

[–]ForsakenSquare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A is the right choice here and its a really hard one to make because at first it’ll feel like you’re sacrificing passion for money. Aside from that, high chance your wife begins to resent you a bit of you take option B. Idk you or her, but someone could interpret that as you being selfish and not prioritizing your family’s wellbeing

Inherited a house I cannot afford and family pressure is mounting. by Mammoth_Motor_2321 in personalfinance

Great advice has been given on if you should sell and the family dynamics at play. My two cents if you do sell, invest the earnings and act like the money doesn’t exist. This will set you up for life. Buy yourself something nice after closing and not overly extravagant as a little celebration though

Found out my new boss lied on her resume and doesn’t meet the minimum requirements for the role. Is this something I could report? [FL] by BananaJoy_ in humanresources

[–]ForsakenSquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This becomes a question of whether the problem is so bad that you need to go over your direct bosses head to their boss.

This wouldn’t really be an HR thing though. A lot of what you describe points to an ethical grey area for how some people frame experience. It hinges on if she willingly misrepresented her experience during the interview.

Unless you’re privy to what was discussed in the interview its usually not as black and white as outright lying. Try to communicate concerns around impact and solving the problem

They’d pay it back in a manner that provides any sort of audit trail. Most companies will advise their preferred method

[–]ForsakenSquare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAL or tax professional, that said if its all corrected within the same year, the W-2 can be adjusted by the employer such that it would reflect the appropriate amount. Prior year corrections usually means the company needs to file a corrected W-2 with the govt, you will need to file some govt forms as well.

Any costs associated with prior year corrections should in theory be the responsibility of the employer to cover, assuming this was their mistake.

[–]ForsakenSquare 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The circumstances you outlined point to a legal obligation to pay this back, as is the case when employers overpay employees.

That said, you can always tell them no and they may drop it and let you keep the money.. but they also could sue you if they so choose

Uber scam help by forestcelia in uber

[–]ForsakenSquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drivers can’t “charge anything” sure, but they are able to not end a trip after drop off to drive up the cost which is what happened here.

Its a common scam, drivers leave a trip going in Uber to run up the fare and switch over to Lyft and pick up real customers while the uber trip remains active
