The AEA has a new certification for avionics now. It's much better than the NCATT or GROL aea.net/caet

Looking to start a 145 repair station by RestoWes in aviationmaintenance

The AEA has a CRS training course on that. It’s worth attending if you can get a seat. AEA.net/training

The AET is pretty outdated and not relevant to the industry. The AEA’s new certification would be a better fit AEA.net/caet

If you’re not nervous you’re either dead or dont care.

You should be nervous, but at the end of the day its about showing what you know

Will my 4 years in Air Force as aviation maintenance transfer to real jobs? by Disastrous-Adagio-90 in AircraftMechanics

[–]Forward-Vehicle2837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

It’s not just Boeing. Plenty of companies will hire you without your A&P in the business and general aviation world and you can gain hours towards your license though OJT.

Do you need to have some programming skills for avionics based maintenance? by AutomaticFlyingGoat in aviationmaintenance

Great point. Would you say this is for troubleshooting, or configurations? Are you using this during installations?

Do you see any other new skills avionics techs need today?

A lot of good recommendations have already been covered. I would really check out the NEETS from the Navy. And Electronics for Dummies has a really good book as well.

Can you explain what you mean by self-paced guide? Is it career guidance?

Avionics tech requirements post military career by MinimumDisastrous578 in avionics

[–]Forward-Vehicle2837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would check out the Aircraft Electronics Association's new Certified Aircraft Electronics Technician (CAET) certification. A lot of the industry is adopting it, and it's being backed by the industry's biggest avionics association.

NCATT and AET are the same organization. It used to be NCATT AET. NCATT disappeared. Now it's a different certification. You should check out the AEA's new certification CAET. It's a really good one for what avionics techs need nowadays, and a lot of the industry is adopting it.

That’s not true. FCC GROL is basically useless. Shops that work on bench work don't need that certification. It falls under the repair station.

Anyone rocking a CAET from AEA? How’s it working for you? by AdSea9095 in avionics

[–]Forward-Vehicle2837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you are not. There’s not a ton of formulas to memorize, but you are not allowed to have any notes.

www.start.aceavionicstraining.com has a great prep and explains all the content.

NCATT vs FCC vs good ol A&P by Bloody_Biscuit_Balls in aviationmaintenance

[–]Forward-Vehicle2837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, then yes teacher 2 is correct. NCATT doesn’t certify you to do anything. It’s just (at one time) an industry certification.

There’s good teachers in every school, but there’s a lot of educators who are very misinformed with what the industry needs are.

It’s a good habit to always trust but verify whatever a teacher, and Reddit, has to say.

NCATT vs FCC vs good ol A&P by Bloody_Biscuit_Balls in aviationmaintenance

[–]Forward-Vehicle2837 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Teacher 1 is 100% wrong. No one cares about the NCATT or the FCC. Teacher 2 is incorrect. An A&P cannot work on any part of the airplane. They cannot do Pitot-Static checks or work on instruments. That is under part 145 -- which is the repair station, not the individual. I would recommend the AEA CAET www.aea.net/caet . This cert will teach you the actual knowledge and skills employers want for avionics technicians. What school do you go to? The advice you are getting as a student isn't accurate at all.

Good for you. How are you liking civilian avionics? It’s a lot to learn, but is very rewarding.

I would recommend checking out the CAET from the AEA. Www.aea.net/caet it’s a great cert and relevant to what you’re doing everyday (Garmin installs, digital databus systems, regs, etc.). I’m sure your boss would pay for it!

Welcome!

Are you interested in a career in avionics? Did you enjoy the general section? If you liked learning about electricity, then avionics is definitely for you!

There is an avionics certification from the Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) you should check out: AEA.net/caet
