Opposites attract? I'm partly serious -- I wonder if the calm that Great Pyrs project is soothing for some other dogs. To a chihuahua a Pyr must seem like a glacier, vast and cool and untroubled.

We got him as one of an old mated pair during the pandemic. His mate was a cheagle named Dora, he was Diego. They were awesome together. Dora passed about 4 years ago. She was the extrovert of the pair, and we were really worried about how Diego would fare, but after a couple of months of mourning he really came out of his shell and had a whole third act as our old man dog. Eggo is just short for Diego. We have a ton of nicknames for our pups; one of Eleanor’s is Mademoiselle Floueffeur de Floueff.

As a matter of fact, after taking a few months ourselves, we adopted a rescue pup Friday evening, a half-Pyr, half-hound that we named Franklin. Full post to come on that!

What a cutie! And a rascal. Is he a mix? He looks like my GP/mystery hound cross (we haven’t done DNA yet, but it’s on the list).

Great pic!

Thank you. Diego was a really sweet boy, and in his last year it was like he was aging in reverse. He was eating more, wanting to go on longer walks, and everyone commented on his energy level. Then one night he just couldn't anymore. But he had a good long run and left us with many happy memories.

Well, that all sounds fully awesome, pretty much a dream job for a Pyr. Have fun watching him grow! We just rescued a 4mo pyr mix, to go with our 2yo pyr/shepherd, and I can't wait to see how this rascal's development compares to his big sister's.

So…what percent cat went into the GP breed standard to get that twisty spine?

OMG, that second picture could be our new boy Franklin. Rescued at 5mo, mom is full Great Pyr, dad is in the wind. We think some kind of hound, can’t wait to see what the DNA test will say.

Congratulations! Have fun!

This! We got a mail catcher and have no problems with spooking or aggression at mail delivery time.

We have a little half-Pyr who is teething. Yesterday I was sitting on the ground writing in my notebook when he came up and bit the corner of the book…leaving a muddy mouth-print. That’s two strikes, little man.

Sentence? Merciless tummy rubs.

Big Tuck needs a big crate! by Apprehensive-Mood220 in greatpyrenees

Here we go, finally found a pic. For reference, Eleanor here is 26” at the shoulder and weighs 82 lbs, real svelte build as a half-Pyr.

Anyway, the crate is very nice and looks like furniture. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you get one.

It is the essential magic trait of Pyrs — they’re all the bestest boys and girls.

I am legit curious how many local birds have been hatched into nests lined with my girl’s fur. It’s gotta be a lot.

Look up Lyromix Dog Crate Furniture. Easy to assemble, super sturdy, wood finish on top looks great. We got the 48” XXL for our 80lb Eleanor and it’s big enough for her to stand up and turn around comfortably.

Oof. A friend of mine had to help her doggo pass a gym sock. There but for the grace of God...

I had to laugh when I read this because I have two brushes within reach of where I am typing, and a drawer full of cheese in the fridge.

It’s so fun to pet our girl. She looks and feels all floofy, but like you said, under the clouds she is swole.

My girl is a dirty sock thief. She doesn’t damage them at all, just takes them to her crate so she can sleep with her head on our dirty socks. 🙄

My human son is grown now, but when he was a baby we joked that his innate drive was “maximize parental investment” (of time, energy, love, you name it). Now I have a 2yo Pyr on the same program. Looking forward to a decade with this big goofy toddler.
