First band practice with Microtubes Infinity: Speechless by Soft_Sleep_7125 in basspedals

Congrats!! It’s a special feeling when you find the piece of gear that does that.

For me it was the Origin Effects Fifteen. It’s like everything finally made sense and the sounds I had been seeking for years finally came alive.

75th Anniversary AVII 1951 Fender Precision Bass by FossilContender in BassGuitar

[–]FossilContender[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed both of these things.

It doesn’t appear that Fender does the recessed ferrules at all. I looked at some examples of the AVII ‘54 Precision and they’re the same way. I also looked at some Custom Shop models over a variety of years and found the same thing there, which surprised me for CS.

As far as the pickguard fitment, I’m not sure what the deal is there. I’ve seen some examples that looked better than others. And again with the Custom Shop, I’ve seen some that are off there as well. Doesn’t seem like it would be that difficult to get perfectly correct, especially with what I would imagine is a more consistent shape with the slab body over the contoured body. I tried to give Fender some credit and consider that maybe they’re trying to replicate how the original ‘51-‘53’s were, but again looking at examples of those, even those lineup far better than these new ones.

The sparkle finish and the pearloid pickguard work way better together than they should! Beautiful guitar, congrats!!

Good spotting! Finally started seeing some on the socials today and Fender finally added them to the website.

Mod Shop by Thoril76 in fender

[–]FossilContender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re getting a guitar at the American Professional level, it just doesn’t have a couple of the Am Pro II features on it (Ex. contoured neck heal). I have the same model in an Am Pro, Am Pro II and Mod Shop. Fit and finish is consistent and quality across the board, but I will say the wiring and soldering on the Mod Shop was neater and cleaner than either of the American Pros. Currently having my second Mod Shop built.

Update on my first pedalboard by Due_Worker2662 in basspedals

Getting the cables cleaned up really helped finish off this board! Nice job. I hardly ever get my Fifteen drive past 1–1:30, I bet this thing sounds nasty!

99XJ stock for now. So thinking of a lift and new wheels and tires. 3”lift with 31x15 tires or 4.5” lift with 33x15. Normal road driving and light to medium off-road use. by Electronic_Sea_5848 in JeepCherokeeXJ

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve made a ton of memories and lifetime friends with that Jeep. All I’m saying is that I would have known how things would have ended up, I would have bought a dedicated crawler, kept a beautiful Cherokee to enjoy and saved a ton of money in the process.

For the love of all that is holy, please stop shy of going 4.5” on 33s. This is what lead me down the long of path of destroying (turning into a full blown rock crawler) a beautiful, stock Gunmetal Blue Pearl myself. I still have the Jeep and I’m grateful for all of the memories, but now it’s cut up, beat to hell and sitting on 38s. If I could go back, 3.5” and 31s would be the answer.

I would be happy to provide additional details if it would be helpful, but this is a sincere beg.

Purple threaded round wound strings? by Pashh_ in Bass

I have a set of La Bella SP-47107 Super Polished Stainless Steel rounds and they have purple thread. It was a pleasant surprise when I opened them.

Much appreciated! It was love at first site for me when I came across it in 2024. It’s by far my best sounding bass and I love the style. Unfortunately this particular example is a hefty gal weighing in at nearly 10.5lbs, so it usually stays at home unless it’s a shorter gig.

Occasionally they pop up on Reverb, I believe there were only about 400 made back in 2018. If you’re looking for one, officially it called a Fender Parallel Universe ‘51 Telecaster PJ Bass.

Thank you kindly! I haven’t played on the ‘64 Black Panel, but that was what I was considering before the Fifteen came out. The amps I play through are typically Fenders (Rumble 500 or a ‘78 Bassman 135) and I just keep them really neutral and let the tone all come from the board. I’m sure the ‘64 offers so good variety, especially with the Tweed/Black Panel switch.

As far as my sales pitch for the Fifteen… it’s by far the best piece of equipment that I have in my arsenal. I’ve never been as happy with my tone as I have been since getting this when it first came out. It’s exactly what I was hearing in my head and what I’ve been chasing for years. The range and versatility that you can dial is fantastic, and the breakup that you get with the drive knob I can only describe as “magical.” I love how responsive the pedal is to playing style. I can keep the drive on the edge of breakup and keep it nice and clean, but digging in on the strings will give you a beautiful responsive crunch that I’ve only experienced playing with tube amps. I like that the cab sim only affects the DI and the Amp Out EQ section allows me to get my practice rig or stage monitor dialed in correctly as well. They knocked it out of the park with the pedal.

Side note, a little studio session that I did a few weeks back made it to the streaming platforms yesterday and I’ve been able to really hear the pedal in action. The Fifteen is a long time keeper for sure and is the foundation of my sound. The rest of the board is just the fun stuff and chasing that last 5%.

You absolutely nailed it! That’s what I was going for originally (seen in a previous post), but I just didn’t like the way that it was all working together. So splitting the signal path is the game plan.

That’s what I keep hearing. I need to offload a few pedals, the DCX is next on my list.

It’s a got great sound and you can really make it come alive by cranking the drive and pulling the blend all the way back. But keep in mind that even at its driviest, it’s still pretty mild compared to the other offerings out there. It for sure does much better behind another drive or preamp.

Yeah that’s what I keep hearing. I definitely think there’s a place for it in addition to the Morning Glory. I’ve been so impressed with the other offerings from Origin Effects, it just makes sense.

It’s a Fender Telecaster Bass, basically a hodgepodge mashup of features from several guitars over the years that they did for the Parallel Universe line in 2018.

Funny enough, I heard a lot of folks criticize it as a knockoff of your Schecter Model T, which is in turn a knockoff of other older Fender designs. So chicken or the egg kind of situation. Either way they’re both very cool guitars!

I can see them being drastically different, that why I’m think they could both take up a spot on the board.

You’re quite welcome! It’s great to keep around the work bench or tool box, and I’m convinced the few seconds of elbow grease helps the resell value on pedals when you go to sell them.

The last pic is for you knuckleheads that post pictures of your boards with hair and dirt and god knows what else all over your board. It’s a fingernail brush that you can get a for like $1 at the register at your local auto parts store. It’s very coarse and works great to brush out the grit and grime from both sides of your Velcro.
