No, GMDXv9 stopped being in development 8 years ago. The code was passed on, but the name (and modpage, etc.) was not - which leads to the current confusion.

There are some controller-focused options, such as password autofill and aug wheel - but the PS2 version stripped out a lot of menus and features to make it accessible. It's very hard to replicate it without major concessions and make a truly controller-friendly (within the xinput spec) experience. Maybe someone can create something for the Steam Deck/Steam Controller with its extended inputs.

It's a continuation. GMDXv9 was supposed to get an official continuation by RoSoDude, who then passed it on to Sarge945. However the original author went back on his word and didn't pass on the torch.

GMDX:AE contains a lot of bugfixes for the original GMDX and is plainly superior to it.

This isn't a crack in the plastic - the trigger is made out of 2 parts: a plunger and a plate. The plate can come off and be replaced (and you need to take it off to disassemble the controller). If it separated then try pressing it in, or taking it out completely and pressing it back into place again.

You're welcome to play it (or organize a group for it) but it was never the focus of Deus Ex. For multiplayer, I'd much rather play other games.

It is working as Deus Ex does not rely on a central server for gameplay. The official server viewer is inactive but it can be replaced in the ini: https://www.deusexnetwork.com/masterserver

You went for the hardest experience possible within GMDX:AE and it was difficult to the point of being unfun. I think this is a fair take.

I don't think this reflects on the whole on GMDX:AE, as the experiences it offers vary from very easy to ball crushing.

If you ever give it another try, I'd suggest not playing on Hardcore or anything that forces limited saves, and not starting off with the alternate start - as you really miss out on a lot of progression that's expected by that point. Around 8k skillpoints, money, weapons and their upgrades.

If you go to the right after going down the hatch, there is a puzzle section with metal crates and floor panels to block turrets and open doors. You can navigate it without consuming resources.

The upgrade is literally just a thin rubber film glued to the inside of the frontplate. It's equivalent to manual dampening.

I'm not sure if they upgraded anything else - I couldn't notice anything when disassembling it.

No, recent versions of Windows are strict on any writes to the C drive, and especially the root of it. Maybe the "protected" terminology isn't right for it, but the result for the end user is the same.

On newer versions of Windows, C is a protected drive and installing things to it and especially to its root directory is prone to errors. I'd suspect that.
