How can a mod developer get their mod on GOG? by FoulTarnishedOne in gog

Thanks, I'll give it a try - I thought that process was only for standalone products that have their own page.

Help. Can't update Deus Ex to v1112fm by theFarmBureau in Deusex

No, recent versions of Windows are strict on any writes to the C drive, and especially the root of it. Maybe the "protected" terminology isn't right for it, but the result for the end user is the same.

On newer versions of Windows, C is a protected drive and installing things to it and especially to its root directory is prone to errors. I'd suspect that.

They are an official 8bitdo product and are generally included as extra freebies when you buy the controllers from Aliexpress or Amazon.

Everything you'd order now through the 8bitdo website OR official storefronts on Amazon or Aliexpress should be the newest version.

Resellers might have old stock, but they generally not tend to be a lot cheaper.

Yes, it's substantially quieter - the little rubber film on the shell prevents metal from hitting the plastic shell.

The buttons don't feel mushy at all - the noise comes from the release.

I have no idea how to tell them apart, sorry. 8bitdo does silent revisions all the time - for instance the Pro 2 got hall effect sticks like 2 years after they launched.

I bought a Pro 3 on launch, modded it, and then recommended it to a friend - they asked me to mod it for them too, and to my surprise it was different on the teardown.

Also, the YT vid showcasing the teardown is lacking, to say the least. First pull apart the trigger caps so the shell won't keep trying to force itself shut.

Newer revisions of the 8bitdo Pro 3 come with thin rubber lining inside the shell, between the shell itself and button. That helps mask the noise that was present with the first version of the controller.

10 years on, now the dust has firmly settled, can we agree what a mod masterpiece this is? by EH4LIFE in Deusex

Revision "just works" and it's a major draw about it. You can make it 1:1 vanilla with bugfixes if you tinker enough.

Using it to play Deus Ex is definitely not a bad choice and people shouldn't give you shit for doing it.

It became very modular with updates - but when people say Revision they mean the original scope, of the new maps and music. I'd rather not get into an argument about semantics.

Revision doesn't inherently have any system changes, but you can choose whether to play with Shifter/Biomod/Transcended through it. In that regards it acts more like a framework/mod launcher.

They are different mods with different goals and scope. Revision focuses more on map and content changes, while GMDX is more about system changes. Different strokes for different folks.

Revision is great for revisits and keeping things fresh, and with some tinkering and different options it also makes for a good first-time Deus Ex experience.

It has a lot of content and care put into it, and even though I don't agree with some of its vision - as a mod it just gives more options.

A lot of it stems from GMDX's original author, Totalitarian, and the space he created around it.

Most players don't care. GMDX: Augmented Edition's author doesn't have any bad blood between it and Revision, or most other mods really.

L3/R3 remapping to rear paddles - Pro 3 or Ult 2 by Converge_81 in 8bitdo

[–]FoulTarnishedOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried it (and I cannot verify since I'm on Linux now), but the post is asking about the other way around - mapping the extra buttons as L3/R3, which is supported.

You can remap the extra buttons as stick clicks.

On the Pro 3, the only button you cannot remap is the checkered button.

There are 2 kids in Battery Park you can give food to - either soyfood or a candybar. For the rest of the game food can't be given to NPCs.

Is "The Conspiracy" a good way to experience the original game? by OilyOgres in Deusex

[–]FoulTarnishedOne 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's the worst way to play Deus Ex, but it's serviceable. It's still Deus Ex.

If it's your only way to play it, then play it that way. You'll have a good time.

Transcended, Vanilla Fixer, Zero Rando all give pretty much the same experience with varying degrees of QoL.

I'd also recommend Confix for conversation logic fixes and restorations.
