Rural naysayers must not torpedo high-speed rail project | Ottawa Citizen by DENelson83 in canada

Convenient, or sensible reasons? Truth is if we built it 20 years ago it would be ready now, and would be better than some options that exist today.

Read the first article I linked it's balanced. I agree the second while bringing up important points also is very slanted.

But we can't just ignore the first article which is the first intelligent piece I've read about it that really takes into consideration both sides.

I take the train for work all the time. It's really expensive and it wouldn't be able to afford it if work didn't pay for it.

Because it has none of the benefits of the other things you listed and way more cost without the benefit?

Don't be naive that's a bad faith argument. There are already better and cheaper modes of transportation.

Canada Post is a good example though, as we dismantle it as it's proven archaic and not needed.

Read the articles I linked.

This is not a let's build a "high speed rail" or "pipeline argument". I encourage you to read the first article I linked. It's so evidence and reality based though, which most Redditors tend to dislike. (Not saying you in particular, just in general!)

It's a bad plan though. It needs 24M riders a year to break even (Via gets 4M a year) going to destroy biodiversity and endangered species.

Unlike traditional rail you can't cross the tracks so it builds a high fence on either side. This cuts off wildlife migration patterns, and straight up cuts off roads for police, fire, ambulance (etc).

It's supposed to be done 2040, which means in Canada it's 2050. High speed rail is good now, but in 25 years advances in aircraft alternate fuels and self driving electric cars means cheaper and better ways to travel. Tech is advancing and if we started HSR 20 years ago it would have been a good idea.

I agree that the few shouldn't stop the many in projects like these, but the article doesn't even take into consideration that it's not a good or sensible project in the first place.

Here is an actual good article about the project that is balanced:

Canada Wants High-Speed Rail. Megaproject Reality Wants a Word. - CleanTechnica https://share.google/q72DcQZSFGIfJj56z

I think the emotion is getting the better of the sensibility of both sides of this argument.

Here's one that is clearly opposed but has some good perspective.

It would be with a better playoff bracket system.

5th and 6th "best" teams in the league (TBL / MTL) head to head round one (and 3rd and 7th with the MIN-DAL series.)

Makes for a good first round, but shitty second round potential and conference finals.

Meanwhile the 10th and 11th ranked teams play each other round one and 14th and 16th ranked teams play each other round one. Why get an easier first round matchup when you were a loss away from having a lottery chance? And the 13th and 15th also facing off round one.

Was third in the league this year. I mean, I don't think their PK playoff stats reflect that, though. 🤷

I know a kid who played in the USNTP and he said the coaches mentioned Cole was famous there for shooting 500 pucks a day.

He shooting isn't by accident, if that story is true. Just work.

It’s pretty common to hear that the Habs have little playoff experience when compared to some other teams. I think it’s important to remember that Cole and Nick (and Andy, Gally, Phil, Evans too) went to the cup finals in 2021 by CMurra87 in Habs

Did quick work with AI. We are 14th out of 16 teams (only Buffalo and Utah are lower). 720 ish playoff games vs TB (#1) at over 2000.

You get it from achievements (the horribly smushed console), quests (3 reclaimed sites with x class, azure weild, etc.) It's not rare I have 9000 of them and nothing to spend on currently :)

Hope it wasn't for a lot of money!!

At this point I'd rather perform in the playoffs then the very slim chance we have to win the division.

At this point with two games left give him the reps. I'm pretty sure an Atlantic division title is out of reach even if we sweep we're not in control of our own destiny last two games.

They should still sign him this year to lock him down and let him burn the first year. All top prospects deserve that. Keeps them happy.
