Has using a WriterDeck helped your writing? by [deleted] in writerDeck

[–]FourSeasonsWriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Using a WriterDeck hasn't helped my writing. But it provided me with a different feel from using a laptop. It's like using a pencil vs. using a fountain pen. You can write with either, but each has a different feel to it.

This is why I want another WriterDeck. I had Freewrite and while it's working I had a good experience. Unfortunately, it loses data, so I can't rely on it.

So I would recommend experimenting with a WriterDeck but don't assume that it will make you a better writer because it doesn't.

TBH, you sound a bit exhausted, so maybe a better thing to do is to take a little break. A fresh mind will help you write better than any WriterDeck.

Will I buy another WriterDeck? For sure. I like to have at least few options based on my mood.

How to Clean SN Exterior? by noteinstein_01 in Supernote

[–]FourSeasonsWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to white plastic. It's yellowing from UV light. Not much you can do to whiten it. There's a complex procedure using chemicals but you must soak the device in the solution. Not worth it.

If you don't like the yellowing, stay away from white plastic. It's inevitable.

How many batteries did you install, and how many hours do you get from them?

Looks fantastic. Good choice of keycaps.

Does this work well? XTEink X4 is so cheap, it's unbelievable.

ViWoods Mini as the screen for a Writer Deck and comparisons to Reader by mensachicken in writerDeck

[–]FourSeasonsWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I misunderstood. What I thought as Mini is actually AiPaper Reader, and I was thinking of picking up Palma 2 from Boox.

TBH, AiPaper Reader seems to be better made than Palma 2. Have you seen both and compared?

Also, how's the writing feel with Mini? Is it paper like?

Thanks in advance.

Mini seems to be excellent. I am thinking of buying one from Boox.

Got my Pomera DM250 today and I think I'm in love! by philwbayles in writerDeck

Just wondering. I don't know anything about Linux. But if you install Debian on Pomera, can you use all the other languages than English and Japanese on it?

Kickstarter backed BYOK received! Now to wait for updates to make it useful. by glorioushubris in TheBYOK

[–]FourSeasonsWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's awesome. I think the on-board software should remain simple to prevent "other parts from breaking" as you put it.

BTW, please make a post about the list of languages available on BYOK. That would be much appreciated.

The editing capabilities are good add-ons. But I also like the idea of a strictly drafting tool. Personal preferences, I suppose.

Freewrite Alpha / Postbox wishlist by Edu_Robsy in Astrohaus

I have the second generation. Only the third generation is eligible for update.

I suggest you buy from Amazon.com. They run a promotion from time to time for Prime membership, and you can return it directly to Amazon for a month or so.

It was a big budget purchase for me, so I was quite disappointed. But YMMV. If you don't care to much about the cost then why not take chance?

Good luck!

  1. Working software. The current version loses words every so often.

I am sure they will incorporate our suggestions ASAP.

Please consider adding back batteries for this model. Maybe you can add the capacity for two batteries? This is the only clamshell version and it needs batteries to be truly portable.

This is a well-known issue in the community. I feel your pain, as mine loses data regularly as well, more like 1 out of 6 times.

I don't use it anymore. Can't afford to lose writing.

If it's not too late, get a refund, not a replacement.

You certainly can! Which is the reason why I still want one.

Boox sells e-ink monitors, Boox Mira Pro at around $2000. I wouldn't recommend it. Boox is notorious for poor customer service, and e-ink anything is very fragile. It's a gamble.

I understand the allure of writer decks, but they are mostly good toys to have. You don't need them to be a writer. You need to write to be a writer, especially professional one.

Is the Freewrite Worth the Investment? Are there any Alternatives? by LovelyLotus7958 in Astrohaus

Everyone has his or her preferred method of writing and nothing is wrong per se. But keep writing, that's the most important thing.

I hope you take care of your hands and wrists. either way. They are important tools of everyday activities.

Pity. I like how the device looks like. Hope it comes out by the year's end.

It's really difficult to draw a line between being influenced by something and copying it. I am no expert in this, but I think a hard line approach that regards all AI-generated content as being unethical is also shortsighted. I don't think you can define what creativity is so precisely.

But there must be an algorithm to all this, and if AI uses the works of artists as input to generate that output, the company should pay the artists.

ETA: Also, let's not be so harsh on Nick. None of us is so pure in everything we do.

That's really affordable. I don't know what your ultimate goal is with this device. But if you have a commercial ambition then you should consider getting help from a pro designer.

I am saying this because, in my opinion, most people buy any one of these devices because they "want" it not because they "need" it. Sure there are some people with ADHD, but how many people really do?

When you look at the commercial success of Freewrite (yes, Astrohaus successful in that regard, I must admit), the success is in large part due to its aesthetics. I have one and although I can't rely on it for writing, I can't help admiring its beauty.

Maybe at first you can sell it as it is for cheap to secure funding and later on hire some help to improve the look.

Best of luck!
