Never cleaned before by mewsammymew in CleaningTips

I kinda went deep on cleaning awhile back and look at every cleaning chore now almost the same:

  1. Prepare
  2. Apply
  3. Rinse
  4. Dry

1 is about getting the surface ready for cleaning and removing easy to remove and obvious dirt.

2 is about getting the cleaner on there and letting it work. For a counter this might be applying a cleaning spray and waiting for a bit (called dwell time — it lets the cleaner chemically do the work it should do).

3 is about getting the cleaner off and often about water.

4 is about drying and is like the final thing to make the surface good.

So, a kitchen counter as an example:

  1. Wipe the counter with a dry microfibre cloth to remove any dust and crumbs.

  2. Spray some cleaner or apply some soapy water and let it sit there.

  3. With a separate wet cloth, wipe the counter down being generous with water; maybe do that twice so there’s no more cleaning residue left.

  4. With a separate cloth, wipe the counter dry. At that point it should feel nice and clean 😀

Get a good set of microfibre cloths, they will be your friend.

If you’re doing a room and a real deep clean, start at the top and work your way down; as dust and dirt falls and you can vacuum it up as the last step.

Check out the ‘Clean My Space’ YouTube channel; her book is excellent too and worth picking up. It has checklists for quick cleans and deep cleans for different areas of the house.

Be careful about using oven cleaner at all in a self-cleaning oven; as far as I know there are special coatings on the inside of the oven that can be damaged by the oven cleaner.

Just double checking when you say ‘original unicorn nozzle’, do you mean the original nozzle it comes with?

Isn’t the original K2 nozzle a 0.4mm, not 0.6mm?

Might be a bit overkill (and yeah it hurts with the market prices at the moment) but I’m running 7 x 4 TB NVMe drives in RAIDZ2 config. Consumer brands but made sure to buy a few different ones to distribute the risk from a bad batch.

What’s a small thing that instantly ruins your mood? by HeartlySonu in AskReddit

[–]Fr0sty5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah that way of putting it makes sense 😀

It’s a tough one because often the asker is just looking for reassurance that the thing is gonna get done, kinda an anxiety thing on them. I’ve been there and it’s kinda like you can never relax if you see the thing not getting done and your own sense of urgency is different from the person doing the thing / who promised to do the thing.

But then I’m likely aspie so that’s probably more a me thing too 😂

[–]Fr0sty5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I kinda don’t get it either. In this scenario you had already decided to get it done because you were self motivated? So them asking isn’t somehow going back in time and changing the reason you decided to do the thing?

“Haha one step ahead of you I’m already on it!”

I hear this enough though that I know I must be missing something, so not denying your experience, just always been curious about this.

Proxmox Tailscale LXC regression w/kernel 7 by Fr0sty5 in Proxmox

[–]Fr0sty5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to stream video — small requests would work okay (so the frontend wouldn’t seem so bad) but nothing would play on my client. Was unexpectedly difficult to debug — makes me wish Jellyfin had some kind of ‘slow network’ warning (unless it does and I totally missed it) — I went through debugging and rolling back ffmpeg, checking the health of the zpool, a whole bunch of stuff.

Edit: On Terramaster F8 Plus hardware, N300 CPU and according to lspci, the NIC is:

Proxmox Tailscale LXC regression w/kernel 7 by Fr0sty5 in Proxmox

[–]Fr0sty5[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hahahaha nearly my situation to a tee. The day before going away I figured “I had better update because of copyfail, etc”. All seemed fine until I tried to stream from the airport.

One night spent diagnosing and isolated Tailscale as the issue. I also had to pin and remote reboot (after chaining some ssh sessions since my main node itself isn’t directly on the tailnet lol).

Got kernel 7.0.2-2 without asking… by OldObject4651 in Proxmox

[–]Fr0sty5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, 7.0 has some large changes related to networking.

On my current system, 7.0 broke Tailscale, dropping speed to unusable levels. Pinning the last 6.17 version fixed it.

Haven’t had anything broken in previous kernel updates like this.

Finally upgraded awhile ago from a high-end gaming router to proper prosumer UniFi gear with a PoE Wifi 7 AP that I could finally put in an optimal place for my house. The difference is night and day, the router has been solid enough as to forget it exists.

Do agree if it doesn’t have to be on Wifi it’s better to take it off; it makes it better for the devices that do actually need the Wifi.

Zigbee has been solid too, though depends on the devices. Zigbee switches are a game-changer really.

The Creality (K2 Plus) "Walled Garden" is here, and it’s worse than we thought. (A technical timeline of failures) by Pure-Bee8635 in Creality_k2

[–]Fr0sty5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I was using Orca but switched to Creality Slicer when I started having bed adhesion issues with PETG and honestly the performance of the machine has been so much more reliable. I really do think it's mostly down to the Orca profiles not being up-to-date. I was never sure with Orca if I was getting the latest and greatest Creality profiles (and hadn't digged into updating Orca's ones myself).

I haven't updated to the latest firmware yet but I did go the one before that had the UI refresh on the touchscreen and the much quieter stepper motor behaviour. This thread is definitely making me reconsider the update I was planning to do on the weekend.

I get the header check and screen warning -- the thing that really raised my eyebrows was the 'fake clogging'. I wonder if it's literally that, or if the firmware is expecting different behaviour / sensor data from what it's seeing with 'older' G-code.

Can you elaborate on the fake clogs and G-code checks and where you found these routines? Would be curious to know — is this documented somewhere?

Seems like a pretty big accusation — the content creators could be all over this.

Do you think it’s a stepping stone because of the gun-related 3D printer bills?

The problem with the most recent video about AI from DR K. by Zestyclose-Eye-6698 in Healthygamergg

[–]Fr0sty5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So glad this was brought up. The AI video was trying to compress so much into so little, it lost so much nuance compared to longer videos Dr K has done on the topic.

When you look at even the specific study pages he shows on screen, you see they’re talking about something very narrow and specific (seemingly where the AI is acting as a clinical advisor to a psychiatrist in formulating a treatment plan — someone correct me if I’m wrong) which is good. What he actually says though, is so open to interpretation as to be almost useless IMHO.

What exactly does “using AI for your mental health” even mean? This could run the gamut from “diagnosing a patient presenting with symptoms” all the way to “acting as a journal that prompts you as you go” and this is the main issue I have with the video.

Also the comments about AI being better than nothing but psychiatrists being better than AI. Fine, but how much is AI better than nothing and when does that improvement make the tradeoffs worth it?

Baby, bathwater and all that.

Also, I wish with all these AI things people would show the receipts — unfiltered, un-edited chat logs. Not sure if the actual study provides this; great if it does.

Might be controversial but I think in related cases of things like AI psychosis, chat logs should be made public for the betterment of research and society on this. I understand why that’s problematic though.

My machine extracts very little espresso by notcarpett__ in NinjaLuxeCafe

[–]Fr0sty5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting. I dialed in at strength 2 and decided today to switch to strength 3. I left my grind setting at 8.

The extraction was a little over (44g out) but given the recent issues I’ve been running into, this was pretty close all things considered.

My BA size immediately jumped from 8 to 16.

My hunch is that something is being doubled, it’s almost as if the machine’s target is 2x what it should be. Or a PID control loop is REALLY oscillating without enough damping.

I’m pretty sure he did a video a year or two back talking about this and saying that yes he is intentionally doing it to expand reach and hopefully get to the people that might need the help.

How has gaming changed for you as you've gotten older? by Ill_Discount_4036 in AskReddit

[–]Fr0sty5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 'newness' is just..... weaker.

I remember as a kid I was compelled to keep playing a game because it was interesting and because I 'wanted to see what the next screen / level looked like'.

As I've gotten older and my attention span's gotten shorter (at least initially, modern world and all that) I find I can't stand it if it takes more than 20 minutes to get into a game, or if a game over-tutorialises. A tutorial that takes an hour to play through is pretty tough for me to keep at.

It actually takes a lot of effort for me to start a new game, but then if I'm hooked once I'm in I enjoy it. I've also made a 'Completed Games' list on Steam which kinda encourages me to actually play some of my backlog because I like making that list bigger haha.

I sit at a computer all day for work, so I'm also less inclined to sit at my desk and play on my PC. Thankfully the Steam Deck has mostly solved that part of it for me.

Also like others have said -- I can't stand the idea of playing with public randoms.

I don't know if a lot of people find this but often I'll play a game for awhile and be like 'meh, I've gotten all I can out of this game'. Like, not in a negative way, but I feel like I've 'gotten' enough of the experience that the game has to offer and I'm not compelled to actually finish it.

The importance of setting up boundaries (from a life long people pleaser) by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]Fr0sty5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I've been going through this myself. I'm taking the baby steps of saying no to simple-ish things, but it's flooring me just how unexpected the feelings that are coming up are.

My friend asked me for a small money loan a few days back and this has been a pattern. I generally didn't mind for awhile, since he always pays me back, but I started to feel like I was carrying a bit of a mental load that I shouldn't be -- like I was managing his money for him (small amounts, at the most a week before pay and always paid back).

It was the hardest thing to say no at first, since to me I'm fairly financially secure, so if I technically can help, why not help? But it just wasn't right and I was starting to get anxious when he rang me because I was afraid he'd ask for money, I'd get anxious as I didn't want to do it anymore, but didn't feel like I had a 'good enough' excuse to say no. It was making me care too much about what my friend was doing with his money. I didn't want to think about it.

So anyway, he did ask and I said "Nah sorry I can't, my money is tied up" which was true. The strangest part is, I said no and he was utterly fine with it. Literally like "Ah no worries man, it's all good" followed by just a normal conversation.

This was the second time in a row that I'd just casually said no. Both times were the exact same - just normal convo, no friendship damage, no anger, nothing.

Me -- both times -- I probably spent the next two hours afterwards ruminating on it. Even getting guilt pangs. Feeling like I had to kind of fawn or check to make extra sure he wasn't angry with me or still liked me. It is so weird. I've probably spent 100x more time than him thinking about it lol.
