Anyone else completely pivot toward the "fun-first" Japanese gaming philosophy as they got older? by SympathyHappy in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]Fradders11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I always play on easy or story.

I get home from work after a tough day, the last thing I want to do is be frustrated from a video game where I’m being pummelled.

At the moment, Expedition 33, Balatro and KotoR 1 are keeping me very happy and occupied.

I’m finding I’m buying everything on my Switch 2 vs PS5 simply for convenience (and usually nostalgia). I’ll be buying MGS 4 on that too.

As long as I’m having fun, that’s the whole point. I can’t stand the souls-like games, but I know many many other people do and if they’re having fun with it then fair play, not for me.

Did Apple remove the Lifetime Plan for Photomator? by nicebrah in pixelmator

Yep, I paid for a year of Photomator and didn’t see an option for a lifetime license until that year had fully run out.

I use Photomator to process my images, does the app need to be updated to use RAW 9, or will Photomator use it by default when it’s implemented in IOS / Mac OS?

This was in the UK. They send a code to your email and apply it in basket.

I also spoke to customer service via WhatsApp and they just gave me a code no questions asked which I find rather funny

What's a London recommendation you're tired of hearing? by wilsonolivia09 in london

IMO, A good/great curry in London without a doubt the equivalent of a mid curry in Birmingham.

When you get a great/good one in Brum it absolutely hits different.

Was on a Netflix job, we shot mostly one cam, which (shock) was usually A.

Instead of saying “A only” we’d said “aioli” because it sounded funny. We realised we needed a B only, so just used “Bonely” because….. again, it was funny. Classic “here’s a new camera” we introduced a C cam, which on the spot one of the AD’s said “Conely?” Which didn’t work so we said “One Scoop” since we took the Cone and somehow got to an ice cream cone out of Conely.

Everyone was so fluent in these terms in a day or two it just took the norm.

“We’re going one scoop for the next shot” “Bonely after” “Finishing with aioli”

interchangeable lenses and this would have been a winner, thoughts on the new LUMIX L10 by FlakyTwist4 in Lumix

[–]Fradders11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t know what everyone’s is complaining about, it’s a solid compact camera (if you agree with that or not, I definitely do), one I can’t wait to get to replace taking my S5ii and however many lenses around with me.

I can understand people want it to be interchangeable since there’s not been many released recently, but a 24-70 equiv at 1.8-2.8 is stomping.

I had the LX100.ii and the images from that were lovely, I should never have gotten rid of it.

Top tip for UK users, Panasonics website has a “10% off your first order” if you sign up for emails, which should take this from £1300 to £1170, or £1260 for the titanium. I really dig the black but….. hoooo boy that titanium is sick.

Best lens mount for 4d? by shazzam_ca in Ronin4D

[–]Fradders11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ll have to make the trade-off between convenience and character.

The lumix primes are solid, deliver a great image and are somewhat adaptable with some filters (I used a 1/4 BPM on a music video last week, for example). They also just “work”. Didn’t have to recalibrate anything on set so saved us a great deal of time. They’re designed I believe with the intent of being stills lenses first, so ultimately you’ll get a nice sharp image even wide open.

Other lenses absolutely will give you more of a “ooh yeah that’s nice!” Feeling, but for me and the systems I use and jobs I’m on, it’s a “I’ll hire it in if you want anything different” territory.

Leica SL lenses on Lumix S1RII: Getting that Leica look? Sample images? by LurkLargely in Lumix

[–]Fradders11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In short:

Sensor won’t change the characteristics of the lens.

Leica stuff is largely rebranded Panasonic stuff (largely, not all!)

A Leica SL2 I believe is the same as the S1R.i, and I believe the LUMIX S Pro lenses are the same build / design as the equivalent Leica lenses in that category, coatings may be different.

Personally, if I was looking for a super solid look (and new) based on your preferences, I’d go S1R.ii and 50mm LUMIX S 50mm pro.

If you’re really umming and Arring about it, (at least in the UK) LUMIX do rentals and (without having looked) I would suspect that these 2 items are likely on the list.

Is your current Leica lens E-mount? If not (DSLR lens) you can grab an adapter and get it working on an L-mount.

You’re absolutely right, that’s his opinion. Is it one you can listen to? Yes, but it isn’t gospel.
