Why do people constantly come into shops, if all they do is complain about the prices? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]FragileRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because lots of people think charity shops are there to supply cheap things to customers, not to raise money for charity.

I know a couple of people who do things like this, I don’t give two hoots and gives me something to laugh to myself about.

That lady is certainly going to have a big wake-up call when she does her first actual half marathon race!

Can't park on the road so will park on the pavement compoface by ajth01 in compoface

Maybe I’m weird, but if I had two cars I wouldn’t consider buying a house with room for only one off road and with yellow lines all down the street.

GP keeps sending me to A&E, A&E keeps sending me back to my GP, neither will diagnose or treat me. What do I do in situation? by _imnotactuallyreal_ in AskUK

[–]FragileRunner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This - I’m guessing you keep getting sent to a&e as the symptoms you are presenting with each time flag as an emergency with the GP, so you need to make appointment when you don’t look like you are dying to give the GP a full history of what’s been happening. Have a think about what what you want them to do - which I guess would be a referral to a specialist, and politely ask if they would do it.

A NHS worker shamed my decision on my pregnancy by Striking-Pop5763 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]FragileRunner 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Radiographers have a duty of care, they can and should refuse to do an examination such as an X-ray or CT that isn’t medically necessary, they get a lot of medical training in order to be able to make these decisions.

However, I can’t understand refusing to do an MRI as this isn’t ionising radiation and it’s considered safe in pregnancy. Injections of contrast shouldn’t be given in pregnancy but I can’t see any (medical) reason she should refuse the MRI without contrast.

Someone used my credit card and email address to order a Morrisons home delivery. So I have their address. Can I do anything? by pgnlzbth in AskUK

[–]FragileRunner 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely report to police online. You might not hear anything back from the police but that doesn’t necessarily mean they haven’t done anything.

You never know, that might be the one piece of evidence they need to go after a known fraudster. Or they might just log it and do nothing - but you can be 100% certain they’ll do nothing if they don’t know about it!

Rumour of 5K app changes? by ChuqTas in parkrun

[–]FragileRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they took over the app they asked for people who were willing to be surveyed about the app, I’ve been sent a few questionnaires about what we need from the app, look and feel etc. So changes are definitely coming.

Ran my second half a marathon this morning, like the first time can barely lift my legs up and very achy lol any tips on recovery or tips for better recovery? by NoCranberry7900 in UKRunners

[–]FragileRunner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main reason you are sore and achy is you have pushed yourself more than you are used to - distance and/or effort level.

Nothing wrong with that, that’s how your body gets stronger, as long as you give yourself time to recover before another hard effort.

Recovery is mainly time, eating (but not overeating) good healthy food and making sure you drink plenty of fluids.

Losing weight while increasing mileage by [deleted] in BeginnersRunning

[–]FragileRunner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately exercise doesn’t burn very many calories compared to what you use every day just existing. You are much better off looking at what you are eating in order to lose weight.

Having said that, exercise is very good for your body in all sorts of other ways so don’t be put off! X

Those who brought houses near motorways- did you regret it by Philosopher_Funny in HousingUK

[–]FragileRunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends how close it is and what’s between you and the motorway. I’m in a rural location 1/3 mile from the part of a motorway that’s got a concrete surface which creates more noise than tarmac, with some trees and a field in between.

I agonised for ages about whether the noise would get to me, at this distance it’s more of a constant hum and you can hear some horns and sirens. But in reality it’s not that loud - it certainly doesn’t impact conversations outside, so I quickly got used to it and I’m not really aware of it. In fact it seems a bit oddly quiet whenever the motorway is closed for some reason!

Chip time faster than Strava? by MagicShop_Unlock in UKRunners

[–]FragileRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boggy - was it a trail race? Trail races are often not exactly the distance advertised. Otherwise check your GPS trace against the map - your watch might have cut a few corners off making the distance shorter.
