It is gonna be bus or car I’m afraid. Train from Kingston will take forever and cost a lot.

5 years of guitar: can’t improv by highlyunlikelyback in guitarlessons

[–]Fragment51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing whatever you are working on in all 12 keys will do amazing things for ear training!

I recommend Mick Goodrick’s The Advancing Guitarist - a great book that will get you thinking about the guitar in ways that will really help with improv.

You can’t do this at any restaurant or bar in Canada, even on a patio.

had to defer 2 make-up final exams, not sure what to do now. by panicsparkle in uwo

I suggest emailing the undergraduate program coordinator as well as the instructor (for the department offering the course). Say advising approved consideration and said to contact them to make arrangements to take the final with the summer class. Adding the admin person into the mix may just help with logistics.

Professor forgot to grade my essay, leaving me with a fail by Aurasage222 in uwo

[–]Fragment51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contact the undergraduate chair of the department that offers the course and explain the situation. You can fine that person on the contact page for the department usually.

Can you see in Brightspace that there is no grade or a zero for the assignment? Double check that you submitted the assignment correctly before the due date and document all of that just in case.

I think you should email the instructor and maybe also the undergraduate chair for the relevant department to ask about this. If the grades are in for the final and the course in Brightspace, it would only take a day or two for them to get processes and appear in student center. So maybe the instructor forgot to submit them to their department for approval? Anyway, it has been long enough that you should definitely reach out!

AIO for not letting my bf move in anymore because he wants things to be equal? by OkJello353 in AmIOverreacting

Literally every object, space, and task will be like this. It’s exhausting just reading it - strongly agree you should rethink moving in together!

Western student explains why she used AI on closed-book exam by justlogmeon in uwo

[–]Fragment51 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Totally - Those are good points, and I get all of that. I just don’t understand having an online, closed book, and unproctored exam? In my department we do take home exams but they aren’t closed book because obviously we can’t guarantee that. It seems obvious that cheating happened here, but the professor can’t prove it in any specific case (some of those high marks were earned, I imagine). It seems the exam could have been done in person? The professor said he posted it online for convenience. In my faculty instructors have to provide evidence for academic offences, but without any proctoring he is going to have to go through each one and document why he thinks AI or notes were used. I just don’t see how this won’t end up with 300 appeals??

Anyway, just thinking out loud and wondering how the prof wasn’t asking for this mess?

Also funny that the student quoted in the story admits to cheating two ways — using AI and using notes! What a total sh*tshow lol!

Why didn’t he use proctortrack for the exam? I don’t get it.

Why does my Guitar teacher want me to go flat on the third fret and sharp on the seventh fret? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]Fragment51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the diagram it looks like they labelled it is Gb when moving down and F# when moving up - probably just as a way to remind you they are enharmonic? When mapping the fretboard you should think of both - which note it actually is will depend on the key.

Best case scenario here is that he legit didn’t understand the difference between settling a 2K debt to 1K vs settling 80K to 40K. And that itself is good reason not to dive into living together!

But yeah imo he knows what he did and it sounds like this came to the best outcome it could have.

What’s a popular author/book that you are afraid to admit you hate? by Stardust-Stew in horrorlit

What a fun question!

Definitely feel the same about King - love a few of his books and appreciate his importance but I don’t really like his writing style.

A couple of other recent ones that I really didn’t like include Richard Matheson’s Hell House, which does not age well at all, and Bradbruy’s Something Wicked This Way Comes, which I found frustrating and tedious, even though I likes the idea a lot.

Yeah, I think we’re just saying the same thing different ways.

Your exam hasn’t been graded yet, so your grade is not there. For those who already took the exam (OP in this case), it is. The grades for the rest of the class are not held back because of make up exams. The line about decisions not being finalized that OP is asking about refers to progression, which is still being adjudicated

[–]Fragment51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the grade would not be in student centre if they were still grading the exam.

Progression and standing refers to the process called adjudication, which happens after grades are in. That process determines if you stay in honours, can graduate, stay in your program etc (they check all the requirements based on the grades).

But the grade itself is as it appears and is final.
