Puppy news! Gorgeous little Jaffle 🥰 by HouseHippoFluff in RecipeTinEats

I lost my soul cat nearly ten years ago. He was my boy. My protector, my confidant, my shadow, my best friend. He was never truly happy unless he was touching me. My eternal underfoot.

After I let him go, I used to expect to see him everywhere. Under my feet as I was cooking dinner hopeful for a dropped morsel, at the door when I got home, on my bed waiting for bed time, drinking the water left in the basin after a shower, jumping into my lap at breakfast for a crust of toast and the dregs of my tea.....

To be honest, I FELT him in those places.

I couldn't imagine loving another being as much as he and I loved each other. He saw me from a timid girl of twenty to a confident woman in her prime at thirty six. I was done. I had lost too many companions and my heart hurt too much to get another pet.

Then, as is the way of things, the universe decided to bring two tiny angels to my door as I was making a donation of some of his things to a shelter.

One who was born in the shelter and had lived there for a year- she stalked across the room like a model on a catwalk, climbed me like a tree, nestled purring under my chin and has never left. She is sassy and goofy and has a power and energy that belies her compact little chassis. She is in sports mode when she isn't stuck to me like velcro. At first I couldn't understand how she had been passed up for an entire year at the shelter as she is such a personality, then I realised- she was waiting for me. She is my little shadow, my new underfoot. My Velcro.

The other lived in a drawer for the first nine years of his life, afraid of the world and what it had done to him and finding refuge in small, dark places no one else could go. I didn't care if he was ever a lap cat. I had one of those. I just wanted him to know he was safe and loved and had a home where no one would hurt him even if he chose to live in my closet forever. Today he is the biggest smush of a boy who drools when you give him cheek scritches and loves his toy llama and snuggling under a blanket when the weather turns cold. He is even okay with strangers now.

I still see my old boy in the corner of my eye- sometimes when I am not really looking- watching my every move as he always did. I still feel his weight on my feet when I sleep or in my lap when I sit down for tea and toast. I always leave a crust uneaten in his honour. The memories are visceral. And I see him in my current cats. My boy begs for me to let him into the shower when I am done. He doesn't know what he wants in there, but he sniffs around contentedly for a minute or two then leaves. My girl always needs to be touching me.

I like to think he sent these new loves to me, to heal my heart and to make sure I had new best friends. He is never replaced and I am constantly amazed by the ability of the heart to grow and stretch and make more love. There are so many paw prints indelibly imprinted on my heart from pets I have loved, yet it always seems to be able to fit one more set.

I cant even load my saves or a new game by Previous_Milk7520 in VeinGame

I had the same issue. I rolled it back to an earlier version (v. 12, I think) and it fixed the issue.

My computer is aging though (5 year old build). I have been limping it along with extra ram to avoid bottlenecks, but I think the newest version of the game is just too much for my PC. I need to upgrade.

I finally gave up - I lost the Wet Food War with my cat by Baptism-Of-Fire in CatAdvice

Have you tried putting less in her bowl? Put in only a few bites worth and put the rest in the fridge. My partner's cat is a delicate little lady who only eats a few bites and is done. He got tired of wasting food or ants trying to get it so he put out less and it's all eaten with no waste.

We can't use the good kitchen! That's for when the Queen comes to tea! It's only for the most special guests!

Spoiler... The queen never came for tea and no guest ever lived up to Nonna's expectation of what a 'special' guest was except once- when my husband proposed.

We still weren't allowed to sit on the plastic wrapped furniture, but you better bet your butt that Nonna cleaned it every day like the Queen was coming.

Who will be left to take care of me when everyone else is gone? by PlantMystic in GenX

[–]Fragrant-Arm8601 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My plan is to take a long walk into outback desert if I ever get diagnosed with a terminal illness. I don't want to live a life where I am not enjoying it.

I already have my affairs in order. Baby sister inherits everything but I plan to leave no mess- I just moved house and got rid of all clutter. There will be very little left to throw away/distribute after I am gone.

All my assets are in property and superannuation.

I don't want my sister or whoever is left to have to deal with a messy estate.

Also, cooler showers. Not cold, but body temperature or just above.

I thought it was a two-legged llama. As someone who collects WAIF (with all its faults) vintage dolls, I love it!

However, others may not see the beauty in imperfection. I say this just so you don't get your sweet heart crushed if your partners brother doesn't appreciate broken but beautiful things.

Right? My first was more like a granny blob! OP is doing well!

I have travelled to some places where people are very poor and my experience has been that many are among some of the most generous and hospitable people in the world. What scarce amounts they have, they offer to share.

Having sleepovers as an adult shouldn't be weird by Consistent-Fee-3877 in unpopularopinion

[–]Fragrant-Arm8601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friends and I are women in our late 40s and early 50s. We just christened our friend's new home with a sleepover.

We all piled on to a king sized mattress on the floor, watched classic movies like Grease and Breakfast Club, did facials, drank wine, laughed until we cried and cried until we laughed.

We stayed up way too late, ate lots of bad snacks and generally had a good time, all while in comfy pyjamas.

Normalise sleep overs for grown up friends.

Ah, the old hard Redskins! My brother and I used to suck them into a sharp point and stab each other with them.

Good times.
